What a precious footage! I noticed before, but this time especially- he's at this stage, so at peace with himself, like a boy faithfully putting together all his Lego pieces, as always, endearing, but also a quiet, understated swag, cheekiness about him- the way he dropped the last parting chords "unassumingly", tells me more than anyone can ever tell-- absolutely love this genius to bits!

Rubinstein brings his own little touches to this famous waltz, somethings are certainly not in the score and he misses out a section. Having said this what irresistible and entertaining playing, he always brought something extra special to his performances in live concerts.

@@gordonflash3000 This is a show version (audience bonus piece), his true 'academic' performance of this waltz can be found on YT 'ArRubMusic'.

It is the piece of music Chopin wrote. Bars 17-48 were not repeated and bars 146-177 were omitted.@@gordonflash3000

@@palmaiattila3288Chopin took considerable liberty performing his music and frequently played versions that differed considerably from the original score. He often criticized Liszt for not playing his works music the way it was written even though he often did the same thing himself. To refer to this performance as “a show piece” is the completely misunderstand the performance and the artistic tradition of Chopin.

It makes one laugh when folk come on here to criticise others. This is a beautiful rendering of a beautiful thing. Let the critics put up or shut up. Or put another way, upload your own better performance, or offload your comments elsewhere.

I'm speechless. I'm dying. I'm 15 yo and I learn that song too, only 1 page passed yet:))) I'm going to spend the rest of my life to learn and play that beautiful song.

It's not difficult, so don't waste your time learning only one piece of music. What you need is to learn as much as you can, look to all possible sources and consider all the possibilities. Always think of improvement and going beyond your existing boundaries, there is no limitation which you can't overcome if you think like a strategist. The only thing that's really difficult about studying music is to keep studying it and keep yourself from making it more difficult than it really is.

This waltz is, I hear, pretty difficult. One shouldn't play it prematurely. First you should at least try to play Grande Valse Brilliante before you play this waltz.

+Jue Lin Yes he did, but this is an encore performance, so a lot of things have changed (two octave scale runs, more octaves and chords)

Nicer than Evgeny Kissin plays it, but I've heard many, many pianists play Chopin far better than Rubenstein.

No one plays Chopin better than Rubinstein! :D And IMHO there is only one pianist that plays Chopin equally well: Krystian Zimerman! :D

@@nicolag1544 Nothing against those two wonderful pianists but when it comes to Chopin I really prefer Artur Rubinstein and Krystian Zimerman (just best rhythm for Chopin)! :D

@@MusikPiratCH with you on that... Rubinstein and Zimerman are pretty untouchable. They have both the technique (mastered), but also the feel... the lilt. The lilt/rubato is key to this seductive music.
