Vladimir Horowitz was a Russian-American classical virtuoso pianist and minor composer. He is widely considered one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. In this video you can see part of the piano recital of Vladimir Horowitz in Vienna Musikverein. Here, Horowitz is at age of 84 years.

Winner of a video, I been tryin to find out about "who is the best jazz pianist today?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Poneyton Introductory Preeminence - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a good one off product for discovering how to master the piano minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my co-worker got excellent results with it.

I’m a retired professional photographer and Steinway was a client. I photographed the unveiling of Horowitz’s portrait in Steinway Hall by Wanda Toscanini Horowitz. After the program ended, I was allowed to play a few chords on one of Horowitz’s pianos. A chilling experience.

I have seen Vladimir Horowitz perform many times during my lifetime. I can tell you that Mr. Horowitz was exceptionally pleased with his own performance of Chopin's Opus No. 53 here. Whenever Mr. Horowitz has a solemn expression during a performance but, after the close, exhales his breath, in almost an exaggerated manner, and then smiles, that's a classic "tell" that he was satisfied that he gave his best possible performance.

80+ year old man playing with such intensity. Hallelujah ‼️ I encountered an excellent piano teacher, unfortunately, too late. He gave me this piano piece. I was in my junior year of veterinary medicine by then. I worked on it despite the killer academic load. I was able to play it in its entirety a couple of times but boy, did it absolutely kill my hands, arms, neck and upper back. This is a man's piece. I have never heard a woman really play this optimally, with the requisite intensity. I had to give it up during my senior year. Not enough time for both activities, not enough energy. My next door neighbor, who was a guitar instructor, told my mother that he got goosebumps everytime he heard me practising it . I would have persisted a bit more if my Mom told me that SOONER. Instead of more than a decade later.😑

It's live performance.. different from a recording studio. With passion, you lead to perfection. Landing keys on slips is sometimes that we address during practices, transitions, & fingers crossing keys wide apart.. May not be avoided. As it is I salute pianist performer H for this performance.

His fingering is absolutely perfect. How his finger strikes the key determines the tone of the string. Tonal quality varies with touch. Vladimir sets the gold standard for all pianists. Hearing this Chopin’s jaw would drop.

My college piano teacher retaught me the flat fingered finger technique favored among many Eastern European pianists and I do believe it allows you to have a much more tonally variable performance and has other aspects in which it trumps the common style. The curved finger approach in my opinion is really suited more for women and children and probably is only so much more dominant because women and children are a bigger part historically of the market for music lessons.

On this LEAP Day...I thought of my late father in his long underwear....leaping into the living room as I danced to this music. My mother had a red vinyl 45 and I played it and danced all the time in the 60s. How the music brings it back.

Horowitz let his gorgeous playing speak for him rather than grandiose, dramatic and emotional outward flourishes with their arms and body that many pianists use in order to keep the viewers’ interest. He could keep them captivated without all that.

It is interesting how Vladimir Horowitz always seems to play with his fingers slightly flat, whereas arched fingers are usually recommended when playing the piano.

It’s a feature of Russian technique, the key is struck with the fleshier part of the finger away from the tip and the wrist carries the movement through to full depression of the key, seems to work for Mr H, even in old age he could produce clarity, complexity and weight of tone which was nothing short of magnificent, and all achieved with apparent economy of movement and gesture.

@@soniamartins9472 I feel the same as you. I too studied piano for years - coinciding with my piano tuning business - and _worked_ very diligently on my performance, especially the Chopin repertoire. My piano friends felt I had a gift for interpreting his pieces. But my abilities went only so far. I wanted so badly to perform some of Chopin's more difficult music according to my heart's 'ear', but those pieces were simply beyond my abilities or stamina. Horowitz and the other piano greats were, and are, so gifted.

There will never be another, Vladimir Horowitz! I love his interpretations of so many pieces. He makes it look effortless like he’s barely moving his fingers his wrists down his fingers flat. And even at this age he doesn’t miss a note or phrase. His technique and his sound, the play of soft and loud like a painting. Chiaroscuro (the play on light and dark). Nobody does it better than Horowitz.

Perfection. Love the mountains of sounds Horowitz could create along with his spontaneity and bold manner. This is playing cultivated in an era when music and artistic individuality truly mattered. Note his subtle and artful use of legato. If you haven’t yet noticed, this is a long lost art. Barely anyone can do that any longer and when they try the results are so obvious and in your face that they are jarring and unmusical. In other words, if you can’t do it and do it very well, please don’t.

If Lang(2x) would play this he would have his eyes open wide and almost cross his eyes for dramatic effect, nostrils dilated then the mouth with an ahh effect, face emoting. Horowitz face looked calm and he just let his fingers express it all! That's a real master!

Piano ability is rarely lost in age especially when one plays to become a virtuoso like Horowitz. Since piano technique is based on relaxation during the pianissimo he lets the curve on his fingers half collapse which takes incredible finger independence and strength since a half collapsed finger which is good technique as it limits the amount of finger strength placed upon the note adding dynamics which gives the pianissimo its beautiful sombre quietness he’s a piano genius

Wow! Amazing how fluently he can still play it at his age. I love Chopins Polonaise. I remember when I was 3 sitting in a big leather chair listening to my much older brother play this. And hundreds of times since. Sadly he passed away at age 86 recently. I noticed at his home, Chopins Polonaise was the music on his baby grand.
