I discovered Marianne Faithfull in 1980 when I was a 14 year old gay lad who felt pressured to conform to what others considered normal ....it was a few more years till I I broke free from that but I remember the huge impact her face and her life story had on me....here was someone who proved you didn't have to live up to others expectations and was not ashamed to own the choices she'd made ....I loved her and still do. This for me, is a great interview.

Anita Pallenberg fascinates me. She was a force of nature, confident, artistic, creative, she was her own rock star.

Of course this was a lot longer than nine years ago but what a brilliant series it was so interesting and a great idea for having people sitting and eating, smoking and drinking around a table having a very bare all conversation, quite ahead of it’s time really. And this program always had fascinating guests. Nothing like this nowadays but maybe it was a sign for the times of yesterday. Although they could certainly take a few tips from these collectibles

How incredibly beautiful Marianne Faithful is and so entertaining. Great storyteller and speaker. She is very sweet, natural and positive. Her eyes are glowing...hardly can believe she has gone through such a darkness and sever addiction, living on the street etc. Beautiful, educated, articulate and well spoken woman!

Anita is just effortlessly cool. She doesn't try to overtake the conversation or beg for attention. Unlike Marianne who can't stop talking about herself, and gets easily snippy and defensive. And guess there isn't gonna be a movie of her life either.

+pup lover - I was just thinking the same. Anita comes off as very real and genuine, but maybe the questions directed toward Marianne required her to defend herself a bit. Everybody always wants to ask her about her bad/crazy lifestyle back in the day, though I don't think she ever tires of talking about any of that either.

Joseph Russio This is probably the 3rd or 4th interview I've seen or read re Marianne and I realized that she is always like this. Her self-absorption is just incredible. And Michelle Pfeiffer or Cate Blanchett to play her? In '99? What a deluded nitwit. As if anyone would care about the story of her life. She's nothing but a Stone's footnote, no matter how much she tries to inflate her other "talents" And of course, SHE is responsible for getting Anita into NA. Ugh, how did Mick tolerate her! The difference between her and Anita is night and day.

+pup lover She actually said Marlon was 100% responsible for getting Anita into NA, I feel you're being way too harsh towards Marianne...to be fair, most of the questions were directed at Marianne, & if anything she was covering for Anita because Anita didn't want to talk....trust me, back in the day Anita dominated the spotlight, she was VERY dominant, if she WANTED to speak then she would be. Marianne is more insecure than Anita, but she's also a lot sweeter. Anita got the 17 yr old yard boy she was sleeping with to commit suicide in her & Keith's bed by playing Russian Roulette, she was very manipulative in a negative way..."I'm going to make you do this....BECAUSE I CAN"...kind of thing. Her life is more interesting than Anita's because of her background, her CAREER, & the fact she CHOSE to live on the streets....Anita was just good at manipulating people. She didn't NEED to marry Keith because he gave her his house Redlands. She KNEW Keith would take care of her for the rest of her life no matter what. Marianne's life is more unique, there are a LOT of manipulative women out there, it isn't uncommon..Anita is considered the 5th Stone because SHE says so.. Marianne is as beautiful as Michelle Pfieffer & more beautiful than Cate Blanchett....at any rate she was answering a direct question, I've seen many many interviews with her & I don't think she is self-absorbed.....at least not next to Anita. If she dominates the interview it's because she's the one the questions are directed at, & if she keeps going it isn't because she's self-absorbed. They are night & day, but you have it backwards. You're reading Marianne all wrong, you formed a perception of her & now are looking to fill it-like changing it from SHE got Anita off drugs when she clearly said Marlon did it & was brilliant about it.

+pup lover Anita says "We taught the Stones, not the other way around"...as if there would be no Stones if not for HER. The reason she stays quiet is because she knows she will come off as cool, while Marianne will get stuck with some icky question that leaves her defensive eventually....I notice you said nothing about the silent Nicky. Sometimes insecure people come off as talking too much....she WAS answering questions directed at her...it's easy to look "effortlessly cool" when you barely say anything, & don't think Anita doesn't know Marianne well enough to know that putting the burden of the conversation on her will ultimately make Anita look better than anything Anita has to offer the conversation.. Anita is SMART & manipulative, she's used sex to gain any type of attention she's gotten in life, while Marianne actually had a job & was talented. Moreover, Anita says she hung out with Stones because she liked riding in Limo's...does it GET anymore shallow than that. Now coming from a high class family, falling for a rock star, becoming a pop star, then CHOOSING to go live on the streets, & back from that to having a career again, THAT'S a story to be told. That's why there is no autobiography on Anita, she likes rock stars, drugs, & Limo's & is good at manipulating people....that's the whole story on her....I love her, the fact that she's able to STILL fool people like you without her beauty proves how brilliant she is at what she does.

+pup lover Also, Anita has Hep C & SOMEONE, I can't tell who, has a death rattle cough, it may be Anita doesn't feel well here. Ultimately, it's the Interviewer who puts the attention on Marianne, I waited for her to turn to Anita as well, but she rarely did.

@@dollyrawlins5470 I know its an old comment, but that just isn't true. In the 60's The Stones has 8 no 1 singles in the UK and 6 in the US, Marianne didn't even have one, her highest chart was no 4 in the UK. Her first hit As Tears Go By was also written by Jagger and Richards.

I don't think so. She's calm and more subdued now and I think she has a great sense of humor and she was known to be very fun. Anita used to be an enigmatic fire woman. Plus Anita can't get a word in between Ruby and Marianne. It's the Marianne show.
