There is no curse. Sakic touched it both times, the Lightning touched it the last two years. Curses only exist in your head if you let them, all that matters is how they play in the next round. Now go get that cup boys!!

Montreal also refused to touch it last year? 🤷‍♂️ I know a lot of players are superstitious, but really it's dumb. Play well next round and you get a bigger one.

Exactly. I never understood the whole "superstition" over touching/not touching the trophy. I mean you're the Conference champions. That's worthy of a celebration. Only thing better is winning the Stanley Cup.

Man i love Sakic. Hes one of the main reason i became an Avs fan. The guy never believed in superstitions but sure in hell believed that actions spoke louder than words. To this day hes one of the best playoff performers and greatest captians to play the game

I want to hate the Avs so much but it's hard these days. Mckinnon and Landeskog 5 years back reminded me of the early Crosby-leadership days is where that stems from for me but they cut out the bratty-ness and now they are just studs who play hard, and Makar is obviously phenomenal. Finals are going to be great no matter who comes out of the East

as a rangers fan and pittsburgh native i will have to say he is arguably one of the best coaches in the league, my fav is sully tho he doesnt give much for the press, then sakic is up there as well as coop

It's a huge accomplishment to win your conference. The old superstition predates the salary cap era where it wasn't uncommon for teams to go to the finals multiple times. It isn't an easy task these days & with the Avs situation, I'd touch it. This team may not be a contender after this season

The thing is, it’s not a curse. It’s more a statement on how difficult it is to win a cup and how different playoff hockey is in comparison to the regular season. Florida was a perfect example this year as they don’t have the wealth of experience yet and it showed in the Tampa series. Weren’t able to adapt to how the Bolts played them so the Bolts made it look easy. Had nothing to do with them having won the presidents trophy and everything to do with a lack of experience versus a very experienced team.
