Lovely dancing scene with Rudy and Beatrice Domingues. Rudy was very light on his feet and danced very well. He looked so beautiful here as well. 🌹🌹🌹

He was very light on his feet. Looked as though he danced on air! He really did have great equilibrium and balance. This was the scene that made him a star.

Interesting how the stoic expression on Valentino's dancing partner does not take away from the passion of the tango and the music. On the contrary, it complements the dance.

Producer Stephanie Allain has just been interviewed before the showing of this movie, starring Rudolph Valentino. But the music danced to by Valentino and someone he takes from a rival Tango dancer is different. The one here is "Wonderful One," by Paul Whiteman and is far more suited to the music we hear in this video.

The original tango is that old favourite "La cumpresita" BUT no matter what they substitute for "La cumpresita" -- and I've heard maybe a dozen of these -- the danged dance is STILL a miracle of great film making, Valentino exuding something no other tango dancer EVER managed to match. That's why Valentino, with his six inch spurs, etc. was the most adored male film star in history. THIS dance started that huge frenzy of fainting female admirers.

I think I would have either fainted or started to perspire uncontrollably had I seen this movie in the theater. No one had ever done that dance like that before. What passion, romance and sexuality. And the song you refer to is called, "La Cumparsita". One of the best songs to tango to.

Indeed this is a good record of how good a dancer he was. But, I am offended by the lack of knowledge of the background of this dance. Valentino was wearing gaucho clothes. Gauchos were the equivalent of cow boys. The tango is not a rural dance, it's a city dance. It is ridiculous.

Valentino was playing the son of a very wealthy landowner.He was not serious Gaucho and in fact the family moves to Paris and he becomes a playboy artist and tango dancer.
