The first half of that movie was totally his. I wonder how many takes they needed for those scenes. I hear Kubrick is a pain when it comes to doing multiple takes, even if no one flubs a line. If a fly buzzes into the shot, he'll do another take. One of the actors in FMJ said they actually felt like they went through boot camp.

That list would of course include every Marine recruit, however, it's important to note that every Marine Corps Officer as well as every Naval officer has this honor as well. I do not know exactly how many Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeants were involved in my own training. I can say thank you to Gunnery Sergeant Gomez, Gunnery Sergeant Ford, Gunnery Sergeant Testi and Gunnery Sergeant Navarro for the combined years of training that you afforded me and that I still use today.
