I immediately zoned in on Rue praising Joan's staff, especially in the context of the Ellen fallout. Joan was always typecast as this crass, irreverent diva but I always got the impression that she took care of her people. She didn't try to change or mask who she truly was and that authenticity goes a long way, even with her gone. Positivity culture always turns toxic when it's forced and plastic. I'm actually surprised it took this long for the Ellen empire to start crumbling. Give me shows and interviews like this any day.

Joan was always a class act. I loved when she guest hosted on the Tonight Show. Unfortunately the fallout between her and Johnny Carson sadly put her in a bad light. She later admitted she should have told Johnny about her new show but unfortunately the damage was done. She did what she had to do. Her show was actually very well done. May she rest in peace as well. Thanks for sharing this video. 2 class acts right there.

@@octavius8562 Some of us don't compare talent based on whether they had a penis or vagina. Both Cavett and Carson struggled when interviewing younger celebrities, especially musicians. Those interviews were often awkward. Both Rosie and Joan could interview young pop stars or older iconic actors with ease.

My best friend and I just visited the Golden Girls house a few weeks ago. We both love the show and been watching it since we were kids. The front of the house shown at the very beginning, is in Los Angeles about 30 minutes from me. You can easily find the address online. We just took some pics in front of it. Stayed off the property and remained out in the street. Lots of people were driving by and taking pics. If ever in LA, you should drive by and take a pic! 💜

Italo Brancaccio Well, truthfully, what’s wrong with theater and TV? What’s so great about movies? In England actors do whatever is available and they feel drawn to whether TV, movies, or theater. It’s all the same to them, it’s a role. America has a divide among TV, theater, and movies but lately it’s opening up where no one is pigeonholed as a just a TV actress etc.

Absolutely underrated!! She doesn't even have a star on the dumb walk of fame, not sure why but it seems like a huge injustice. My favorite from her body of work is a play she did called 3 viewings, or 3 funerals, its on audible and its a bit like a radio program because its just three people telling their story, the other 2 actors are good as well, I highly recommend checking it out.

On Maude they didn't seem to know what a talent they had and kept her in the background. But Bea, Estelle, and Betty admitted Rue was so good that they felt somewhat embarrassed. Funniest sitcom I ever watched was The Golden Girls. My favorite segment had Blanche about to use her charms on the tax auditor. "Yes?" "Gloria Schmidt, IRS." The Golden Girls is probably the best sit com of all time. Rose is hilarious with her stories, Dorothy with her dead pan look, but if you really watch the show, Sophia has some of the best lines! My all time favorite moment with Blanche, and one of my favorite episodes, is when she wanted to be a great Southern writer. After 3 days of no sleep cuz she has "writer's block" she wanders into the kitchen where Rose is separating the eggs yolks from the whites and putting all the yolks into a sandwich baggie to save for the "homeless people"... lol... but the best moment is when Blanche sees all the yolks in the bag and she just can't figure out what they are and keeps asking Rose what are these little balls of sunshine??? Totally gifted actress. She hit the big time in her career a little later in life, but better late than never. So glad major success and stardom finally happened for her.

@@m.e.d.7997 Yes, true (in addition to a ton of stage work and other work in film, too). It just seemed like she achieved a level of success and acclaim with The Golden Girls that she had never experienced before.

How old was Rue when she was first on telly? I know Estelle Getty wasn’t a youngster when she hit the big time either.

@@jenniferconstantine9041 Lol. Are you referring to the episode of The Golden Girls, when Blanche and the girls are on that game show, and she answers one of the questions with that remark? Hilarious. Being a huge fan, yeah, I got it, haha.

interesting thing about rue's ancestry, she's irish & choctaw, plus her mom is possibly portuguese cause her last name her mother's maiden name was a Portuguese or Galician surname variation of Medeiros. i always loved the golden girls, and they were so wonderful. they are dearly missed.

I was so fortunate to visit Rues Cafe rue LA rue? I can't recall the name... in upper Manhattan. Washington heights. Held the yellow phone, saw her most famous robes, shoes, drivers license.. and ate the best grilled cheese tuna sandwich. I was sad to hear it closed not long after.

Well, unfortunately Sophia's dubbed voice is unwatchable in germany - the worst old lady voice I ever heard. Literally makes me cringe. Thank goodness for KZfaq, I watch it in english almost daily. Mostly to go to sleep 🥰
