In this video you can see how to use the shirring feet for the BERNINA L 8 series overlockers / sergers.
With the feet L24 and C24, fabrics can be easily and quickly ruffled with an overlock, chain- or coverstitch.
Gathering itself is done with differential feed 2 and a maximum stitch length for optimal results. Unique, decorative effects can be created not only with 4-thread overlock, but also with chain stitch or coverstitch.
Shirring made easy, for quick ruffled embellishments that can be used on various projects and designs. Be inspired by the examples of a blouse, a jabots or sleeve variants gathered to fit.
The shirring foot L24 is designed for the L 850 and L 860 overlock / serger machines. The shirring foot C24 is compatible with the L 890 overlock / coverstitch combo machine.

Do you have any advice for shirring when elastic thread for the chain stitch? I've made a fitted shirred top in my l890 however I struggled getting the settings right to make it tighter...

Dear Hassana, thanks for asking. Our tip for using the L 890 with elastic thread in the chain looper for shirring is: Set stitch length to 4.5 and use a fine, but new elastic thread. We got best results with needle thread tensions around 3.3, using a good quality overlock thread in the needle. We leave the differential feed on 1, because the gathering effect is achieved by the elastic thread. Presser foot pressure 4, default, was fine. The gathering quality depends heavily on the fabric quality, as a fine, soft fabric gathers the best.
