I did not expect that ending. I thought anything that can take down a scorpion would win easily against a spider the same size.

+CanadianMike100 Me too,I thought the spitting spider would certainly win after seeing how the scorpion got defeated so easily,but I guess the mother protecting the nest had a better reason to fight,and that it got some serious dodging skills,and maybe spider silk is just not as effective against another spider.

The spraying spider's aim was poor. The other mother spider was cautious, sparing with her web and also agile enough to avoid the venemous silk sprays. The biggest deciding factor was still the spraying spider had entirely ran out of silk spray. It takes time for that spraying spider's body to make more silk. She just used it all up too quickly that there was no time to replenish.

+Gt Gogeta You might be right! Maybe the spraying spider's venemous silk doesn't stick well to spider silk. The venemous silk might need a better contact surface for anchoring, such as to a branch or a clean leaf. If the mother spider was corned on a branch or some other vegetation devoid of her own silk, then the spraying spider's venemous silk might have attached better and encaged her sooner.

@@kozuta8858 adult black tailed scorpion will be like 20-30 times larger than a spitting spider. Even if the spitter manages to climb on it, fangs would not penetrate the tough exoskeleton.

Last two times the spitting spider would have been on target but the Rufus's web acted as a shield, keeping the spider from getting caught up in the spitting spider's web attack.

I am so impressed by the Rufus Comb Footed Spider. The Spitting Spider's weapon is powerful enough to take down a deadly scorpion. But TWICE the Rufus sidesteps and wiggles its way out of the Spitting Spider's weapon and wraps up the Spitter with LIGHTNING SPEED! AMAZING! Maybe it fought so hard because it was defending its egg sack.

You have to love the commentary, especially the bald guy. Epic. I always liked this show, because although it is staged they make very sure to only have face offs between creatures that would actually cross paths in the wild. And they use natural sets, so the staging is limited, despite what some people might tell you. They'll tell you how cruel it is, then go buy crickets to feed their beardie!!!!

He deserved better than to have his last fight be shown as a sample battle for showcasing the capabilities of the Spitting Spider, especially after it showed its own capabilities against the Pirate Spider in that very same episode (hopefully that's just one of his older siblings).

I like to see Portia face off against a black widow or red back, those spiders are also very intelligent spiders and their webs r a bit more difficult for Portia to navigate in and more likely to alert the spider as widows aren’t fooled by false movement

Cool thing is the Rufus Comb Footed Spider is part of the 'Cobweb spider' family which are super common. My son found one and put it in a little terrarium and that thing will take down a bug 3x its size with no effort.

Interesting to see because I've witnessed this battle more than a few times and to see it on video is trip out, not surprised that the rufus comb footed spider won because in Chicago there is a strikingly similar looking type of spider that is very common that sometimes crosses paths with a spotted version of that spitting spider. Most people never seen a spitting spider before because they are elusive in the day time but usually can be found very late at night with a sharp eye and flashlight. They seem to prefer to be in basements with concrete beveled walls and they behave just like the specie in the video.
