I wish I could tell Rufus how much this song has moved me but I truly am at a loss for words. His brilliance hasn’t just moved me, but it has deeply disturbed me. I feel I will never be the same after hearing this song. Absolutely out of this world

We all have that one love, we never dared confess to, secretly dreaming of them even when in the theatres, and in our fantasies every one of them it is with this one love. They might be our first crush might be our third or fourth but there is something so pure about this one ideal, this one muse that will always be in our heads, hearts, souls. We never marry them, we marry someone not a little bit like them, and sometimes we tell this husband/ wife about this one secret love, but we play down how much they mean to us... I saw my ‘art teacher’ at the airport. Sometimes I wonder if it was an illusion, because I only saw her for a second and when I ad the courage to look again I saw her family but she was gone. Here’s to you mystery woman I dedicate this song to you.

There I was in uniform Looking at the art teacher I was just a girl then; Never have I loved since then He was not that much older than I was He had taken our class to the Metropolitan Museum He asked us what our favorite work of art was, But never could I tell it was him Oh, I wish I could tell him -- Oh, I wish I could have told him I looked at the Rubens and Rembrandts I liked the John Singer Sargents He told me he liked Turner Never have I turned since then No, never have I turned to any other man All this having been said, I married an executive company head All this having been done, a Turner - I own one Here I am in this uniformish, pant-suit sort of thing, Thinking of the art teacher I was just a girl then; Never have I loved since then No, never have I loved any other man

Ativista e militante gay, Rufus deve ser respeitado pelo seu trabalho como artista. Essa música é linda e deve ser admirada sem preconceito.

It's a song. People should listen to it as a song, and a story. Knowing he's gay adds another dimension, but it's not necessary to know that to listen to and understand the song.

@relaskra
@relaskra 2 жыл бұрын
@@Mike_Anonymous I do extremely poorly in college environments and especially anything online and most alternate paths people with my degree take are even less appealing. And then I’d almost certainly be taking a pay cut if I just dropped into something else and between being unable to live with other people and inflation, that’s even worse. So I’m more or less stuck just existing in a field I’m wildly dispassionate about.

Personally, I don't even the wife of an executive company head could afford a Turner. The last one sold for $54 million in 2014. Maybe if you're Mrs Bezos or Mrs Gates, trapped in pant-suits and a loveless marriage.
@reedt2413

I think you make a good point. There are a few ways for me to be a nitpicker here. Perhaps the song is framed in the past when the outrageous prices we see today were not as commonplace. Or, it could be a lesser known piece that holds less value. Sotheby’s sold a Turner for ~$10m a few years back. There are hundreds in private collections that could be swapped or traded or sold for more comely prices. You would have to be mighty rice no less.

Boy you all have a real taste for poetry. That’s evident in all this math you’re doing. Silly me I was noticing the disturbing harmony, an unexpected augmented chord, on the line about owning a turner. I’m also, thinking about how a turner looks. So often moody and brooding. That says something about the art teacher. And when she finds herself in a position to own a piece of art, she chooses a turner, and even if her husband did pay 54million for it, it would never be enough to give her the thing she really longs for. That’s the poetry. Y’all over here speculating whether this fictional woman has that kind of money. Stop the world I want to get off.

@@angel72987 ❤️. I got up my courage and took the train into nyc to got to the met museum yesterday by myself. I’d never been, and it’s the same museum he’s referring to in this song. I don’t know if you been, but it’s huge and by the time closing came I hadn’t found the Rembrandts or the john singer sargents. I did see a number of reubens, but alas I never found the gallery with the Turners. Of course I thought of this song all day and it almost seems right that I still haven’t seen a Turner in person.
