I had some battles on the pitch with opposite numbers in the second or back row, including some where we didn't bother much about the ball, just trying to belt each other without the ref seeing. However, all that stayed on the pitch, laughing about it in the bar after the game. Just as it should be.

It was instilled when playing rugby at a Canadian university but never did I see it as much as when we were on our honeymoon in New Zealand in 1998; they actually had us come down during halftime and we had the chance to shake hands with both teams at the end of the game. It was a college level game but still, we felt so welcome and got back to Canada with a few souvenirs to remember our trip and game!

The fact that rugby fans have to constantly harp on about how great their sport is classic inferiority complex behaviour. No other sport has the same sanctimonious broken record mantra because every other sport is happy within itself and doesn't feel the need to ram itself down everyone's throats. Rugby fans, PLEASE, give it a rest. Not everyone is going to enjoy your game and that's okay. Just let people enjoy whatever sport they're into without the constant smugness.
@TheTheotherfoot6 жыл бұрын
They have a lot to be smug about. Soccer=fights in the crowd, on the way to the game and after the game. Idiot squads that go to the game just to wreck anything they can. NFL= riots after the game, win or lose, usually after any important game. AFL=nobody except one small section of australia, and no one cares about them.
@Leifr9526 жыл бұрын
That is a daft response. Do you honestly think that the madness you describe takes place at every single "soccer" (it's called football), NFL and AFL match? You're obviously both ignorant and fueled by the same old boring inferiority complex that consumes so many rugby fans. No other sport cares if you think rugby is the purest, most respectful and gentlemanly game; we just get on with enjoying our sports and don't feel the need to constantly compare ourselves with others. Give it a rest.
@TheTheotherfoot6 жыл бұрын
These thing have happened often enough for the police to have plans to deal with these games. There was a public information video mabout the police response to a soccer game in london. How all available police staff were needed to keep the streets reasonably safe for joe public. The problem with your post is that you are still punch-drunk from your last game. Rugby has the right to be smug, the crowds there are well behaved, they do not tie up police resorces, costing the country a swag of money. There is a thought that the sports should pay the cost of policing their sports. Bring it on!
@Leifr9526 жыл бұрын
grumpy sod I absolutely agree that sports should pay policing costs, but if you went to a football match these days your blinkers would be redundant. Again, you are misguided in the extreme to believe that violence occurs at every single football match. Such a belief merely embodies rugby's stuck up upper class values looking down its nose at the working class.

The World without Honour. In this world of lands and nations, there lie those with pride and respect. They claim actions on their pride. Some have respect without pride. While having one or both can be a good thing, it may also be bad. Negative emotions and feelings are not always negative. Throughout history, and within our own ancestry lies reason behind those negative actions. While some may be bad, again, some are not. Wars were fought on pride and lack of respect, as well as honour and due to un-honourable actions. One can have pride and/or respect for something or someone, an have no honour. However, when honour is present, pride and respect naturally comes to thee. The will to die at a moment’s notice for nothing, but to only defy the aggressor’s words and actions. The ability to rip out your own heart should there be meaningful reason to you, or for someone, even though you know nothing of them. Connection towards another through honour is always real. Comradery and “brotherhood” you always hear or have heard, is honour. Knowing that someone has your own life and will protect it, as you will do for theirs. Soldiers throughout the human existence feel no longer this as they return to “society”. False pride and misplaced respect, mixed with greed allow for the true Negative to grow and spread. Decreasing violence in society is only keeping dormant our nature. To decrease the aggressive behaviours between one another, increase the availability of violence in a controlled environment. I.e, Create areas that hours boxing like places where the gloves are extra padded along with the extra thick helmets (protective gear). When a disagreement arises between two men, it would be more likely that they sign up legally to “box” each other for the “bragging right”, rather than fight on the spot. I’d bet my life one it. But I’m just a random person who possesses no ideas for improvement among humanity. Ignore me…. either way, nothing will change. Such is life. And such is the nature of humans of the early millennia.

@@FelipeAraujo-wh6ve All I'm saying is that rugby needs to get off its moral high horse because a) it's not as pure and respectful as it likes to think it is, b) the pompous and sanctimonious attitude of many of its fans is tiresome and actually turns people away from the sport, c) many rugby fans are more obsessed with hating football than enjoying their own game, and seemingly have to criticise football to aid their enjoyment of rugby, which is part of an inferiority complex, and d) football (despite its faults) is doing just fine and doesn't need a lecture from a minority sport like rugby. Videos like this mean well but haughtily imply rugby is the only sport that places emphasis on respect. All sports do this, including (shock) football. Rugby just has a much different attitude to other sports. The vast majority of players don't want things to happen to themselves so they don't do it to each other. We are aren't perfect and there can be some naughty things that go on but overall, we respect the work that goes in to the game and that everyone (who isn't professional) has another job on Monday.
