There’s just something about strike moves that I LOVE! But what makes them work❓ Here’s a ‘both sides of the ball’ analysis of FIVE 1st phase plays with all of the Six Nations involved 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇮🇪 🇮🇹 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇫🇷
The 1st FOUR are all versions of the same play, the 5th is simply my favourite. 🏉 I think they're all great in their own way, even when they don't work!

Northampton vs Lyon, there is a block on the Lyon 2nd center, according to the rule the runner should have stop before impact, no ?
@GeraintDaviesGDD

Yes there's definitely a block! In reality most line breaks in rugby involve some form of block. It's the nature of the beast! But you're right, it is illegal but such a fine line that it generally goes unnoticed!

@@GeraintDaviesGDD Yup that's the problem I think...I don't like it 'cause this is cheating. This is rugby not american football. The video ref should be able to notify the field ref about it.

@@fabricemonnier4388 One of the things that video refs will consider is whether than player was a genuine passing option during the play and therefore whether they were entitled to run their line. It's then looked at whether it's the defenders fault for buying the dummy!

@@GeraintDaviesGDD still the dummy runner has to stop before impact and not prevent the tackler to change his running angle

lol, greatest set piece scrums, reported for misrepresentation, the third example worked when the attackers deceived going down the blind and the defenders failed to adjust. The fourth is about dummy runners, this is nothing to do with the scrum itself. The last one was also a good from the base of the scrum deception/angled runners BUT the defence made errors all over the place, firstly inside defender (no.10?) steps up far too quickly causing a disjointed D line, he commits to the player taking the ball from the scrum half when it should be the job of the openside flanker/loose man. This in itself highlights how the OSF and loose have not broken from the scrum quick enough. The OSF is too slow is behind the ball covering the gap the no.10 leaves, the loose man is simply awful, committed to absolutely nothing and already 10 yards behind/to the side of the ball. It then becomes a simple case of run through the gap, draw defenders and pass. The commentator incorrectly calls it a mis-move at 2:55, it isn't, there is no dummy runner at that point it's a simple draw and pass with the defending centre dragged in, the attacking centre breaks through the gap to the drawn centre and wing both of whom miss the tackle. The FB is far too deep and has no chance to help out the defensive line, the 10/7/8 are all at fault and the set piece succeeds easily because of this, I say easily because there were at least two other attackers that could have scored. This poor defensive structure and response by defenders in union even at the so called elite level is common place.

Just to clarify, the focus is on the play being used which has resulted in more tries than any other play in the last 2 seasons. Indeed, that is fully explained in the article that the video is associated with. Best wishes, GDD
