The Ruger 22/45, a brief history and field strip tutorial.
The field strip tutorial begins at 2:53 if you want to skip the history.
The example in the video is the original 22/45, or sometimes called Mark II version, however the disassembly steps are applicable to the Mark III version as well.
While the Mark IV version that is out now differs and is substantially easier to disassemble, the reality is that there are hundreds of thousands of the previous versions that are out there, and they are still excellent firearms. While there are a few “tricks” to the process, assembly is not difficult once you know them and should not deter you from acquiring one of these fine pistols should you find a good opportunity.

I really enjoyed this comprehensive video. It reminded me of why I traded my early Ruger pistol in for a High Standard .22lr semi-auto pistol. I own 2 of them now and they are very accurate and trouble free.

I Bought my Mark iii 22/45 5.5'' Blued bull barrel in Feb 2016. I Absolutely love this gun I have shot thousands of rounds with no problems. It's a tac driver. I added a Hogue soft over molded rubber grip w/finger grooves, victory trigger, Halo charging ring and a Williams fire sight. all helped a great gun even greater. I enjoy your channel you always have the best detailed videos.

They are selling a 22/45 at my local pawn shop that is "seized up" as they put it. It was functioning fine, someone bought it and returned it the next day not functioning properly. I pulled the bolt back and when I push down on the release it does not come forward but will if you push on the back slightly. After watching your video imwondering if it was taken apart and not reassembled properly. Do you maybe have an idea what could be the problem without seeing it? I'm thinking I could get it for a good deal diane it's not functional right now.

It is hard to say without seeing it, but it could very well be that it was not assembled correctly. It us also possible that internal components may have been damaged in the process. It sounds like the bolt is getting hung up on the hammer which can be caused by improper assembly and "forcing " things together.

@@CraigsGunChannel i decided to take the risk and spend the $200 that they were asking for the non functioning gun. It took me a little over an hour total to strip, clean, and reassemble. Reassembly was tricky even with the videos it was tough getting the strut back where it needs to be. But now I have a functioning gun for a good price. I still haven't shot it yet but it tracks and dry fires exactly as it should.

@@aaronhjelmstrom9727 thats great, glad to hear it worked out. I think they probably did not have the strut in the correct position when it was assembled which can cause hammer bind. Is that what it was?

Do you notice they say polymer instead of plastic. To say plastic makes the gun sound cheap. But if you say polymer it makes it sound more sophisticated.
@CraigsGunChannel

Technically, there are differences, plastic is a type of polymer, however not all polymers are plastics. However you are essentially correct. It makes it sound better.
Best way to reassemble a Ruger Mark Series (All versions).
