I have a Mark I with a 5" Bull Barrel. I bought it used at Brocks in Copperas Cove, Texas for $100.00 about 12 years ago. It's super accurate and never malfunctions. Ruger makes great guns.. PS also have an LCP 380 w/Crimson Trace sights for concealed carry. It's a great gun too.

These Rugers have caught my eye ever since I was a little kid and the "Ruger" name has stuck with me all of this time. I would see them when I would accompany my dad to gun stores and I really liked how they resembled the Nintendo Zapper Gun. These are a beautiful series of guns.

Thanks for your time invested..very good vids. I have a mark 2 in stainless that I've shot comp with..love it. It kills soda cans all day long at 75 and 100 yards..it has a 10.5" inch bull bbl,a set of target grips, an B-Square one piece mount system that I'd suggest to anyone that is into the Mark series. It slides over the rear sight..clamps in place with 3 screws, it can be taken off with your choice of red dot or scope..and still maintaining 0 for cleaning. I have a BSA red dot on mine..very quick to pick up the red dot and shoot. I had a day at the range with one of my co-workers..he had a 10-22 standard set up..I had my Mark 2 and shot as well as he did with his rifle. We picked up a bunch of spent shotgun hulls..threw them out to various ranges..and sent them out into parts unknown at times. I had no trouble hitting them offhand..we had a blast, then cleaned up after. Loads of fun!

When I bought my first Mkll in the eighties I assumed the standard had a tapered barrel and fixed sights( sort of a field grade). The target model gave you a heavy barrel and adjustable sights. Then the government model came out. I figured that was an in betweener since I didn't recall seing one in stainless. I owned at least one example of each (including Mk iv's) except for the Mk l until two days ago. I found a Mk l heavy barrel. Made in '69 it has adjustable sights and yes the magazine follower button is on the opposite side. I was pleased to find one with the original box to complete my collection.

Short answer is, everything in the upper tube is basically the same. It's the trigger group and magazines where the changes have been made. I had to rebuild a Mark I with Mark III springs and a Mark III firing pin. Aside from fitting to account for tolerance changes after nearly 40 years, it was all the same.

One thing he did not mention was that early MK I pistols had the nub for the magazine on the opposite side. The later MK I models swapped the nub to the same side as the MK II and will use the same magazine as the MK II. I have a MK I and also a MK II that use the magazines interchangeably. You can make a MK II magazine work in an older MK I pistol by swapping the nub to the other side. Easy to do.

I have been teaching my sons shooting safety for years. Joseph is the youngest and he is 19 now and he loves it except the part of the take down to clean it. @kc5hgv
@kc5hgv 8 жыл бұрын
You have to put the barrel at a 45 degree angle and slightly pull the trigger back holding the gun with your left hand and your right hand to press the pin into the bolt stop with your thumb with you other finger slightly pulling the trigger. If the assembly goes in easy it is not correct. If you look inside there is a pin that has to go into that groove in the inside of the piece that fits into the handle. When you assemble it correct you can feel the spring action getting tension. That is the only way to explain it without showing it to you making you do it. Yes it is a pain in the ass. Good luck I hope it can help you...

I have a mk2 govt target model with sides cut off and it’s tapped for a scope from the factory. They used to come with a spent casing and the target that was used at the factory to test accuracy

I have a pair of the standards both are 6 numeral serial numbers , love them little guys. Had another in the early 80s broke it down to clean and only took a few weeks to get it back together, not kidding , you got to hold your mouth just right to get it back together, practice practice practice and could still be difficult 😠

IMO there are benefits on heel type mag release, for starters it's ambidextrous, it's a much simpler mechanism hence less costly to produce and the mags need no locking bump or notch, another cost cutting item. And besides, who needs a fast reload on a .22 pistol?

The 22/45 came out with the Mark IiI, so if you have one in a mark II you have a one of a kind.

From experience the Mark 1 or Standard with the 4.5 inch barrel is so much nicer to carry as those bull barrels are so heavy in the holster

Weird as I have a Mk I with a Mk II magazine and it works just fine. I did get it used so it may have some kind of modification I haven't noticed to allow it to use Mk II magazines.

Man I wish I could have found these in Canada for some of the listed prices. I paid $750 for a mark iii blued with target barrel and some nice wood grips. A also paid $750 for a mark iii stainless with a target barrel and a rail for an optic. I wanted 2 identical handguns so hopefully I can pull parts if needed and still have an operational pistol.

My Mk II was the 22/45 model, and it had a mag. release on the side. Also, he forgot to mention that the MK III has a loaded chamber indicator and comes with a scope mount.

I believe that mounting optics on the Ruger pistols became so popular that Ruger factory modified the later Mk II pistols to be able to do so prior to ceasing production and introducing the Mk III's which all had that option. The Mk I had a couple of options. The "Standard" with 4" and 6&7/8th" as well as the "Target" versions (with adjustable sights) and 5" bull bbls as well as the 6" (plus) slender bbls. I found that the Mk I Target versions had better triggers than the Mk II equivalents did. The Mk III's seemed to correct that issue.

I truly enjoy my Mk I (Standard) and friends I teach how to shoot like it too. MK II magazines can be modified to fit the Mk I, but it is better to just spend some time online and find some extra Mk I magazines there.

So, I've been looking into this, and it seems like the best option for me is the mark 2 - seems the most foolproof. But does the mk4 have that defect that causes the magazine to get stuck in the same way it does if inserted incorrectly into the mk3? Honestly, just the possibility is too much risk to consider buying a mk3. I'm thinking mk2 is the way to go. But if the mk4 doesn't have that issue, it might be worth considering. I'm looking for my first gun, so I want something reliable and foolproof, accurate, and light. Everyone always says a low caliber gun is better than no gun, and that my first gun should be easy to use, easy to learn, and foolproof. The mk2 sounds like my best bet! But maybe I should still consider the mk4. In any case, great video - really helpful, very informative, and definitely helpful in deciding which of these would make the ideal first gun for me. Price matters a little bit to me, but I'd rather save up and buy the ideal first gun than have to buy a gun that I might need to bring to a repair shop if I fail to put the magazine in perfectly every time while I learn. I live in a state where I can just go to a gun store and buy a gun with my state ID, so I won't have to take any special classes or anything. So getting a reliable, safe gun as my first one is of paramount importance. If anyone has any advice, please advise me! I'm not going to be buying one for a few weeks, since I need to save up anyway. I already have a good idea of where I'll learn to shoot, so that's all set. There are a number of shooting ranges near me, all with affordable entry level classes. But I do want to make sure I'm bringing a gun that I know how to use to some extent, and that there won't be any issues with it while I'm still learning. So, what's better for that - the mk2 or mk4? Mk3 is out for the issue where the magazine can get stuck. Mk1 is out because it's basically an antique and not worth paying extra for as a first gun. So, mk2 or mk4? Give me your opinion, reasons, and I'll take anyone's thoughts into consideration! I have some experience shooting airsoft guns that are designed to have realistic recoil. I had a ridiculously expensive airsoft pistol as a kid, it cost around $800 and that was almost 10 years ago - acted just like a real gun in almost every way, so I'm not worried about learning to handle the recoil of a gun. But I definitely am a bit scared that I'll put the magazine in wrong, or do something else wrong, and end up costing myself a bunch of money as a result! So, while I'd love to get the newest Ruger pistol, I can't justify buying the mk4 if it has that magazine issue!

I own 2 MK1s. The older one uses magazines with a right side button. The newer uses magazines with a left side button. I understand they can be modfied but haven't needed or attempted to try it. Both are wonderful pistols and I wouldn't part with either.

My father gave me a Ruger Mark II for christmas last year (I was 13.) The case for it I believe said it was an "anniversary" edition, the year I don't remember because he keeps it in his gun safe. I have shot it before, and im a pretty bad shot, but I was able to hit a shotgun shell (already spent) from around 40 feet back so it is definently a good gun.

What you call the slide, it's actually the BOLT. (Not unlike that of the Mauser C-96.) And, in the Mk. III, that in the magazine, to hold it, it's a NOTCH. And you can take it to a GUNSMITH, istaed of searching for a, (only), PISTOLsmith.!!!! (But, you only need to unscrew the grip panel, to remove a wrongly inserted mag.)!! BTW, the "Governament" model, has a totally different grip, with controls that emulate those of the M-1911A-1.!!! I enjoyed the video. Thanks.
