Taking the Ruger American 308 out to the CMP range in Talladega, AL to give test it out and then I do a quick post-range review of my initial thoughts.

I bought the Predator as a hunting rifle out in the West. I upgraded it with the factory Ruger AICS magazine conversion for $28. I considered the Magpul stock, but it increases the weight of the rifle considerably, as does a more powerful optic. If you want a target rifle, then go for the Magpul and the giant scope, but it will be less than ideal as a hunting rifle. Most ethical hunting shots will be 300 yards or less. Bigger scopes and fancy stocks are not needed. More trigger time and load development is.

The Magpul stock definitely adds weight. Hunting out west is a lot different than hunting in the Southeast and weight is much more of a consideration. Thanks for watching!

Range of “ethnical shots” will be vastly increased with a better stock. With the addition of the Magpul stock my Predator will stack 10 rounds into a 3/4” paster at 100 yards easy.

Very good video! Definitely a 600 yard rifle, if not a bit farther, depending on the bullet type.

I have the same exact gun and love it. Short, light, and easy to carry through the woods and it packs a punch with the 308 round. As for the magazines, yes they’re kinda weird. I haven’t had any problems with mine but basically it’s a 4 round gun, with 3 in the mag and 1 in the pipe. However, I’ve been hunting deer for 35 years and never shot more than twice at an animal so for me even 3 rounds is plenty. Thanks for the video.

I love the American Predator in .308. You’re absolutely right, in the .308 4 shots is plenty for deer hunting. Thanks for watching! Please subscribe as I will have more content coming soon!

I've taken 2 deer with my stock ruger American predator in 308 flawlessly. I had a mossberg map patrol in 308 before this. It was ok I just didn't feel it was the one. The predator filled that satisfaction. Hornady American whitetail ammo nikon buckmaster 4-12×40 on 4x less than 1 moa groups. I can't shoot more than 350 where I hunt. No need to change anything

Just a little constructive criticism. Get the lowest scope rings you can. I love these rifles. Congratulations on yours.

I did end up going with low mounts. Check out my latest video to see the completed rifle!

Depressing the trigger safety on that rifle is not at all "creep", it's not even part of your actual trigger pull, that starts after your finger contacts the trigger and the safety is fully depressed. nothing personal, but referring to that trigger safety as creep is not right. I have that exact same firearm, same barrel Lane, the triggers are surprising, in a good way, fairly decent right out of the box. Especially when you consider the price of the firearm. I also purchased a Ruger American Ranch 16" 450 Bushmaster. Incredibly light and maneuverable. aside from the magazine, the worst thing on these firearms is the feel of the action, the bolts definitely need some polishing to smooth out the action.

The design is very similar to the design that Savage came out with years ago to address the law suits and issues going on within the industry regarding trigger safety. I am a competent, responsible shooter and don’t need additional safety built in to my triggers. If you like it, that’s fine. Stick with it. It’s adjustable down to 3 lbs. I adjust my triggers down to ounces, not pounds. So it doesn’t work for me and my preferences.

How’s the recoil on it? Thinking of buying the same rifle but wasn’t sure how the kick was.
@droctoganapus1252 жыл бұрын
I have one and the recoil is definitely significant, I added a brake to mine to tame it.

Why don't you adjust your trigger to 3.5 lbs. like the others?
@yellowhammeroutdoors55162 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question, I actually ended up installing a Timney trigger like my other rifles set at 3.5lbs. Check out my newest video and subscribe for more builds to come.

why is the 308 the only one with 18" barrel
@yellowhammeroutdoors55162 жыл бұрын
The .308 can get away with a shorter barrel without losing too much in performance due to the larger bore diameter compared to other popular hunting rounds.

I have yet to find a better rifle than my FN SPR A5M XP.
@yellowhammeroutdoors55162 жыл бұрын
The FN SPR A5M XP is an amazing rifle. FN produces quality rifles but that series is at a higher price point than most are willing to pay for. For the money, I think the Ruger American is a great rifle with the ability to customize and upgrade down the road.

@@yellowhammeroutdoors5516 YES, I HAD TWO AND SOLD THEM BOTH UNFIRED WITH SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS PROFIT. I JUST GOT THE GO WILD .308, With today's reloading equipment high quality bullets powder choices I think these guns are sub MOA for 500 to $600 price range you cannot beat them. These rifles have motivated me to sell some of my very high and sniper rifle, since I don't shoot them as much and I don't want to have all my money tied up for no reason.
@yellowhammeroutdoors55162 жыл бұрын
@@Plainsimple67 I agree with your logic. I also have gotten rid of some of my higher dollar rifles in favor of the Ruger American. My 18” .308 is just as accurate as some $2k rifles. I shoot at the CMP quite regularly and guys out there with high end rigs are floored to see the accuracy out of my Ruger setup. I also love that because it has a barrel nut, it enables me to order custom barrels and switch out easily. On one of my other videos I took a .308 and converted to .375 Raptor with a very simple to do barrel swap. I like having one platform capable of shooting multiple calibers.
