I think Ruger did a great job with this rifle. Being able to use the good rotary mags from the 10-22 is a great idea as we all own a 10-22,,well most of us..I got one for hunting as we cannot hunt with semi-auto in my state. The trigger is excellent. I went with the standard for me as it just felt right and balances very well for those off hand shots. I through on an old Bushnell for now just to try it out and was very impressed with how well it grouped with the right ammo....my tried and true old Federal 510,,,great target ammo for the price if you can find it. Tight groups even holds good at 100yds. I'm considering the Nikon BDC 150 rimfire optic for it. My field off my back porch is exactly 150yds to the woods and I get allot of groundhogs off of it every season. I've always got them before at that range by figuring out where to holdover on my other 22. Nice job Ruger.

Buds Gun Shop has the new version that has the green stock, NO SIGHTS and has a 18 inch threaded barrel for around $300. I just ordered the .17 HMR version.

Yep, the rear sight is the same as the 10/22, but that front sight helps, if a scout/camp/survival -ish application is your thing, BUT everything else is awesome. Besides all the features mentioned, the trigger is similar to the Savage MK-II's accu-trigger, and it's a honey of a trigger. Action's smooth, picks up rounds, chambers them, locks up nice, ejects rounds ... all good. Although I'd say it shoots just as good as the Savage, it's stock and magazine, and finish, put the savage in a close second. The Savage MKII FV-SR comes with a cool tactical bolt and heavy threaded barrel and NICE rail mount, but it still uses a so-so magazine system, that works fine, but not even close to the quality and design of the Ruger rotary and XB magazines. This America Rifle is a very well thought out platform, that is available at a very nice price to boot! Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the info. I put the williams peep sights on and use them as ghost ring sights. Work good but the rear sight is cheesy. Those tech sights look nice. I may try them next. Just love the fiber optic front sight.

I wish the version for the Marlin was more like the 10/22 version, in that it could accept standard AR-15/M16 sight posts. that way you could drop a Tritium night sight or fiber optic post in - I'm sure it could be modded no problem with a dremel, but I didn't have the time or patience to mess with it.

I have a different opinion about any of these iron sight 22s. Forget the factory sighting in - it probably won't be accurate out of the box. They call it "adjustable" but it is only for elevation. Adjusting the windage (left or right) requires tapping with a brass punch. Does everyone who buys a 22 own a brass punch? If you plan on putting on scope or red dot, then you can get fine tuned sight adjustments. If you put on peep sights like in this video, or something like Williams Fire Sights, they can be adjusted for minor amounts by design. You cannot do fine adjustments with a hammer on the provided iron sights. It just takes too much of a whack to move it that you will not likely arrive at the right stopping spot. It is like trying to park a car in a parking spot accurately and the car has a minimum speed of 100 mph. Maybe the hammer and punch method can come within an inch or two of target, but not really accurate sighting in.

I'm trying to decide whether to go for the standard or compact version. I want the compact for maneuverability and aesthetics and the standard for accuracy. Also, I won't be firing beyond 300yards but would like to push between 200 and 300. Any recommendations? Thanks!

.5 MOA at what distance? 25 yards? I went through three of these before I got one that wasn't completely botched from the factory. One so badly made it had to be destroyed. The third one is a tack driver and was perfect out of the box

The American Rimfire was stupid accurate out of the box, I'm sure coupled with the flat-shooting .17 HMR it would be a sick varmint rifle.

I couldn't get the front sight high enough to properly zero, since on that particular model of Tech Sights only the aperture is adjustable for drop. My solution was to remove the front sight post, which is held in by a allen screw. Slip the screw that normally plugs the tapped portion of the receiver underneath the post. Then re-tighten the set screw. Seems stupid, but it worked fine and has held zero for over 250 rounds so far. So to answer your question. No, it's easy as hell if you have the appropriate allen wrench, which I believe is included with the sights.
@davidwit7749
@davidwit7749 6 жыл бұрын
Good, I'm not the only one who couldn't get the rear sight quite low enough to zero it. I may have to try your solution to raise the front post.

Nice video, but LEE-ew-pold? It's actually pronounced LEW-pold. And yes, I agree about the optic mount. A rim-fire dovetail mount? Those should have gone out with the 20th century. At least it's also tapped.

My seven year old can put 9 rounds in one ragged hole you can cover with a dime, from 50 yards with this rifle, using the factory sites. You're to reliant on optics if you can't run a rifle on open sites.

They are JUNK! I'm going to stick it to Ruger who won't fix my Ruger American Rimfire and sell my 3 Rugers for something else. An unfired Ruger purchased in 2013 was recently discovered that it won't feed ammunition and Ruger refuses to fix it. This is in spite of them knowing they manufactured some that were defective. I also have 2 unfired Ruger 10/22s that I bought in 2015 and 2017 when my son's were born. I planned on presenting these rifles to my sons when they turned 16 but Ruger's unwillingness to do anything for me has put me at odds with them for any future business. I will make certain that my boys know what kind of company Ruger is, and with any luck they boycott Ruger too. Too bad because I really wanted a Ruger no. 1 before this experience
