Today I take out my Ruger Blackhawk and test three different types of ammo through it. I shoot American Eagle 158 grain, Remington UMC 125 grain JSP and Winchester White Box 110 grain JHP.

It's too hot to go outside today, so this video is very welcome! Of the two low hits with the 158 grain ammo, if you notice, they are still centered within the width of the 8-ring. One is centered at 10X, but low. That is your ammo! We need to see the chest rig; I'm a holster guy.
@texmexshoots Жыл бұрын
Thanks Frank! I should have shown the holster on video. Thought about that as I was editing. I suppose you are correct about the ammo. I'm going to test some more soon and use the chrono. That should at least help me know if its the ammo or my shooting.

German hunter here. I own the same model with a 4 5/16 barrel. I carry it on every hunting trip. It's a strong and reliable revolver. Still a good gun. Only thing i changed is the rear sight to a LPA sight. 👍

Thanks for watching! We have quite a large German community here in Central Texas. Although I’ve never been able to find weisswurst like I had when I had the pleasure of visiting Germany many years ago. I looked at the LPA website and they make some great sights 👍

I have the exact same one, it really loves the 125 grain XTPs. I did get a hog with a 158 grain AE soft point. Going to try 158 grain XTPs for hunting load.
@texmexshoots Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! I'll need to go find some 125 grain XTPs and see how well they do out of my Blackhawk. Great job taking the hog with the 158 grain soft point. I think those do well since they will expand a bit but and drop a lot of energy into the target. I hope the hog was tasty!

Love my Ruger Blackhawk 6.5" in .41 mag. It's about as much power as I can shoot well. My son and I shoot at a 10" x 15" steel silhouette target suspended from a metal tube frame of 2-legs per side and a crossbar on top. We usually shoot at this at 100m. My Ruger was not sighted in for the ammo I was using (205 gr hard cast SWC handloads, ~1200 fps). The 1st round went low and left of the target but this was easy to correct via sighting higher and right. Got the next 4 rounds on metal. This was from a standing 2-handed Weaver stance. This would be a great self-defense round and shoots well but isn't too bad for recoil. Also have a S&W Model 19 6" that I bought back in 1981. Still looks great and shoots well too.

Thanks for watching Ed. Sounds like you have two beautiful revolvers there. The Ruger and S&W. That's good shooting for 100 meters. The 41 magnum is a wonderful cartridge. Has a very loyal following. Although it certainly helps if you reload.

A guy at the local range has a lot of experience hunting hogs on private land with the 357 Blackhawk. He said that the 180 grain loads seem to work best.
@texmexshoots3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the info Indexer! I just need to find some 180gr in stock somewhere. If I do I'll chrono it as well to see how it does out of the Blackhawk.

Awesome pistol. I really like the looks of the grips on there. Do you get any knuckle smashing from the trigger guard? I did thus I put on the Pachmayr grips on to soften the blow. Also mine is the shorter barrel as well so it may be a bit lighter. That shooting looks great to me. Your putting them inside an 8 inch circle at 25 yards . Pretty good if you ask me. Also, concerning the 110 grain do they seem to have less recoil compared to the others? I'm trying to see if I should get some for plinking purposes. I also need to paint my front sight ramp. It makes the sight pitcher more user friendly. Thanks for the video as always.

Thanks for watching Cervus! The grips feel comfortable to me. I'm sure some softer ones would make shooting the heavy loads easier to handle, but I don't experience any discomfort on pain when shooting. I appreciate the kind words. The 110 grain does feel a little softer, but not by much. Notice it a lot more when shooting them out of the Rossi. Hope your Summer is going well. Yesterday we got some rain and the temp dropped from 101 to 76 in about 30 minutes. Made for a beautiful Sunday evening. Sadly we were back into the 100s again today. Can't wait for the dog days to pass.

@@texmexshoots Same here. I'm getting up and driving out to the property to load up a tractor to take to the shop. Either the alternator is bad or there are some wiring issues. The battery is not charging and runs down every time I use it so I want to get it fixed before using it to work on the dove field. I just don't have the time nor the patience in this heat to work on it myself. Sunday when working on attaching a planter to a cultivator, by the time I was done I was soaking wet. Humidity was so high I just got drained. Come on cooler days of fall.
@texmexshoots Жыл бұрын
@@cervus-venator Yes, lets hope the summer wraps up quickly! I pray you are able to get the tractor fixed and ready to go. Sounds like the alternator or a dead cell in the battery. Good luck my friend!

Thanks for watching! I have not tried any 180 or 200 grain loads yet. Hoping to get my hands on some soon. I'm sure the blackhawk can handle any load you give it. Well, as long as it's within SAMMI specs.

His voice sounds like actor 'Ty Burrell' ( Phil Dunphy ) from tv show Modern Family . Does anyone hear the similarity?

Thanks for watching Jeff! I am curious, what type of accent do you think I have? I think my accent is a little different due to the fact that I learned both English and Spanish as a child. Then during my life I also learned some German. So it is possible that has changed the way I speak. However I spent most of my childhood in Laredo, and other than short periods of time, I have lived in South/Central Texas my whole life.

I appreciate the compliment! The long barreled Blackhawks have a nice sight radius that helps get those shots on target.
