Bought the Ruger and the heritage within a week of each other... At 400ish rounds, the heritage went back to the factory. Stayed for almost 3 months, and was returned to me, STILL not in time. Sold it back to the gunshop for 70 dollars of store credit. The Ruger isn't the best single action 22 I've ever shot, but at least it still works.

Heritage Rough Rider ALL DAY. You have more sizes, from a 1" Barkeep Boot, to a 16" revolver (YES, a freaking 16" barrel). You get tons more finishes, grips, and you can swap out a birds head grip on them. The Heritage Rough Riders also have 22 WMR cylinders that work on all their 6-shot models. Heritage also makes 9-shot models in 6.5", with both 22LR and 22WMR cylinders. The Wrangler now has some bird's head grip models, and Heritage models now have some cerakote models.

Those are all admirable features when it comes to the Heritage. The only two single .22 LR revolvers that might get me to buy another, as really how many do you need, are the long barreled Heritage and the birds head Wrangler.

Heritage has significant performance issues. Many reviews citing poor function and/or terrible accuracy. I bought a Chiappa with the additional 22 WMR cylinder. Sure, it's roughly finished, but it functions well and accuracy is fine. It's also the only full size SAA replica that isn't priced as high as the center fire guns.
@Alloy211
@Alloy211 Жыл бұрын
I can't say we've experienced significant performance issues with our Heritage. The accuracy of our Heritage is equal to our Chiappa, so no significant difference for us. We have had a reliability issue with the Heritage and the .22 LR cylinder. In that occasionally it doesn't strike the rim enough to fire. I've not had the time to address it yet but I believe I have a simple solution. Now that being said the Chiappa is my son's favorite over the Heritage and he shoots the single action .22s the most so between that and it being the correct size I say it's kind of a wash between the two.

@@Alloy211 it's because of the zinc alloy. Illinois has a law that you cannot sell firearms within state borders that have zinc and a melting point of 800° or lower. As such, Heritage, Hi Point, many Walther models, and other many other brands I can't recall offhand simply aren't available here. Not that a single action revolver would conceivably ever actually reach said temperatures and melt unless you put it in an oven, but the law is sadly not specific enough to make exceptions like that.

@@Alloy211 also, thank you very much for your video. I'd been thinking very seriously about the chiappa as my first handgun since I can't get the heritage, but wanted to compare its quality to the wrangler. Your video helped a lot in making my decision.
@Alloy211
@Alloy211 2 жыл бұрын
That makes more sense. I'd have to look into it more but it makes me wonder if it's a law designed to make lower cost firearms unavailable in Illinois as it seems to cover quite a few those. A sort of Saturday night special panic law. It would explain the vagaries in it as well.

The overall construction of the Heritage feels cheap compared to the Wrangler. The Heritage magnum cylinder & barrel length options are nice. I know people who love their Heritage, & people who hate them. For plinking & general fun shooting I'd lean towards the Wrangler, but I might be biased since I have two Single-Six, one stainless & one blue. I also remember when you could get a free Heritage with the purchase of higher priced pistol (Beretta, IIRC ???). That made me question the quality of Heritage.
@Alloy211
@Alloy211 Жыл бұрын
Sometimes promotions can hurt reputation in that regard. I'd agree that the Heritage doesn't have quite the same quality feel of the Wrangler but they're not too far off in my opinion. At least I think per the price point of each the Heritage especially with the magnum cylinder is a great value for dollar. The Wrangler really surprised me when I compared it to my Vaquero, obviously cheaper materials on the Wrangler but build quality was similar.

I bought my Heritage about a month ago. It's the 2nd I've had. I gave the first one to my dad when I moved out of state for a few years to "keep for me!!!" Then I moved back, left the gun with him, ended up buying him a Henry .22 lever action rifle, and officially gave him the Heritage as a companion to the Henry.

There's something pretty sweet about having both a rifle and sidearm in the same cartridge. Something I would like to have for my Vaquero is a companion lever gun. The only time I've had that before was with my Glock and when I had Sub 2000 carbine. At least in your case of "hold on to this for me" be coming "possession is 9/10 of the law" it was with your dad and by your choice. He seemed to have made out pretty well in the end.

@@Alloy211 He had wanted a single action revolver since he was a kid. He had bought a Browning Buck Mark just before the Clinton gun ban went into effect because no one was going to tell him he couldn't buy one. I bought the Heritage a few months later. When he first saw the Heritage, I think he would have traded guns if I suggested it. He now has some issues charging the Buck Mark, and it does have a stiff pulling slide, so he actually prefers using the Heritage. To date, I don't think he's fired the Henry yet so we're going to have to spend an afternoon shooting some .22's.

The AWB was such an inane idea I can a understand where he was coming from. My son has a Henry .22 lever action that was willed to him by an uncle. the ruger wrangler I bought some months ago. having owned many rugers in my long life time I wasn’t expected a single 6 for the price. but know it had to be quality or ruger wouldn’t put there name on it . I never owned or personally know anyone who has a bad ruger, it was far beyond my expectations. I have shot it up to 45-50 yards and shoot 6-9 inch groups off hand. I must work flawlessly on time, every time, any time like all my defense weapons or it will not be tolerated at all. the lives of my family demands it. with much older eyes and not as steady as 42 years ago it’s a whole lot of gun for 200 dollars new with a life time warranty . I highly recommend it, and would have no second thoughts about buying another like it . Nana and papa aka the hunter wishing you well.

I’ve shot 3/4 inch groups 100 yards with my reloads with red dot sight and 3- 3 3/4 inch at 286 yards with red dot. that’s the farthest I had to shoot at the time. I want to scope it to extend my range 500-700 yards it I can some one that will allow me to use there properly. I always appreciate expanding my knowledge. That's very good accuracy out of that platform. Unfortunately I have yet to add a semi automatic .308 to my collection. I'd like get something in the G3 style platform. There are a few that I've considered mostly because of affordability. Until then I have the multitude of bolt actions for something more heavy hitting than the 5.56 or 7.62 x 39. I do suffer from the issue of not having much of a long range area to shoot myself. Although currently I'm too busy with the tribulations of life to do much shooting for the channel or otherwise. Appreciate your response.

I got the Wrangler, and used to have a a Single Six. I like the Wrangler but noticed the trigger is a little heavier than I want and the loading gate is quite stiff. I ended up taking it apart and squashing the loading gate spring (called cylinder latch spring in the user manual). It looks like a hairpin, and you can squash it in a vise so the gap between the legs is about 0.1 inch instead of the 0.2 inch it comes from factory as. Then the loading gate is nice and easy to open. The trigger can be made lighter by unhooking one of the legs of the trigger spring from the pin inside the handle. I know that sounds like a poor idea, but it works really well and is easy to do. The spring is very stiff so it feels unlikely to come loose even if only one leg is hooked on a pin. With these two changes, the Wrangler feels a lot more like the Single Six.
@Alloy211
@Alloy211 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice and your perspective. I for a long time ran both trigger springs off on my .45 Colt Vaquero and liked the hair trigger. Until I let a friend shoot it and watch him put a round in the ground just in front of himself. He cocked the hammer back before he'd taken aim and touched the trigger. After that I put both trigger springs back on as a lot of people want to shoot it. But it's certainly something to lighten the trigger and one leg off it isn't too much of a hair trigger. Thanks for watching.

Heritage even has 9 shot cylinders in 22LR and 22 WMR. Getting 2 of those Heritages. I just ordered the 4.75" with the cocobolo wood in that layered camo with the same case hardened look. I'm more stuck on either the 6 or the 9 shot. The 9 shot is going to be blued with a standard wood grip and the adjustable sights. I do love that you can carry all cylinders in the Heritage with that weird safety hammer stop. I didn't like how the Wrangler just spins though. I had to see one for myself to see that action. I wasn't a fan. Felt cheap to get it locked in. Albeit, the Ruger is close to my heart, big fan of Ruger. Also, there was another video on the springs differences. I had to go with the traditional click. I wish Ruger would tweak a few things to expand the Wrangler series. I am really liking the Heritage Rough Rider with the movable rear sight and the upgraded front sight with fiber optic glow. Ruger all the way for what it is. If you want to shoot magnums, they Will have to upgrade the frame, and you Will pay a higher price.

I agree if you just want a good quality economic single action the Ruger is great and if you want favorite the Heritage is good and they have plenty of variety.

Hopefully so, although it behooves me to suggest a safe of a sort. If I were to lose any of those the Chiappa would be the preferable choice.

I'll say the build quality on the Ruger is superior to either. Ruger has made quality single actions for a long time and it certainly seems to have continued with the Wrangler. Thanks for watching.

The heritage is a descent gun for the money. Buy at least the 4+ barrel or it won't kick out empties. Rod just too short. If they could ditch the safety and added adj. sights they'd really take off.
@Alloy211
@Alloy211 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed, that's something with the short barrel on my Vaquero. You have to work the the ejector with vigor if you want them to clear the cylinder. As well if they'd get rid of the safety or at least offer models without it.

Heritage does offer a model with adjustable sights and fiber optic front. I didn't see that Ruger has offered any other sight options as of yet so I can't explain that. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Thanks for the video. I have the HRR and the Wrangler. I must say that i like the Wrangler better. The fit is better on the Wrangler. I say this because the cylinder on my first HRR was so loose that it had misfires a lot. I have now found another one and it is much better than the first one. I like the HRR for the reason that i can shoot 22mag. out of it.

i happen to like that manual safety on the heritage because it allows you to safely carry 6 rounds in it. if i get a 6 shooter i'm gonna actually put 6 shots in it. now, point of contention, you said you like the overall finish on the heritage the best. now while you are right about that particular heritage which appears to have some kinda coating on it, most rough riders come with a cheap paint on the frame which easily flakes off. as far as the wrangler being better quality, , if you have the time and inclination, call ruger cs like i did and ask if the reason the wrangler isnt offered with a 22 mag cylinder is because the frame couldnt handle the added pressure of a 22 mag load, and they will tell you yes. thats a red flag to me. even the chiappa can be had with a mag cylinder
@Alloy211
@Alloy211 3 жыл бұрын
Although I could see why you might have concerns about the frame even the highest pressure .22 LR aren't going to stress it as much as .22 Mag. With a transfer bar I don't really think you're any less safe with six rounds in the chamber but I can see why some people may prefer the manual safety. I appreciate your perspective and thanks for watching.
