@@Chris-xl6pd While a few years back I would agree his race style was overly aggressive, this years and last years Verstappen has actually been calm and well calculated. I'm assuming you're referring to the last few races when you say Max has been driving like a shit show, I'm not sure I agree. I'd like to remind you that most if not ALL potential world champions have given everything to win the championship, including champions like: Micheal Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikonnen, Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton. Just to name a few of the most modern names we all know. Out of these, 3 of them tried crashing their opponents for the title at LEAST once. What you've seen and will see in the last race in Abu Dhabi will be nothing less than what has already been done by even his rival for the title. And even Lewis knows and respects that.

It’s kind of sad and I hope Max’ relationship with his dad isn’t more about Stockholm syndrome and not some ‘tough but not too bad’ relationship When max becomes a father himself, he might wake up from that Stockholm syndrome and you’ll see their relationships go south as Max protects his own son. I have learned there is no such things as 'Talent'. He drove from age of 4 till where he is now. Same goes for great pianist, violist, football players etc. They spend so much time and effort and had to give so much up like friends and family, getting divorced to make a good carreer and stuff, taking risk in money and time. It's not talent. It's getting dedicated to something and really go for it spending between 16 and 20 hours a day for 20 years long. Only what the 1% of human beings dare to do these days. We we're thought on school not to take any risks and play safe: "Get a job that 'pays' and be happy with what you have because there are more people who have less."

He told me that all the people you see in bands playing instruments don't have talent. They just really went for it and found the right teachers and coaches. They had enough dedication to learn more every day. People who are failing didn't have the right people around them, bad timings in life and maybe not enough dedication to give everything up for one thing

I was reading the comments ando saw a lot of people talking about how it wasn’t abuse or if it was why isn’t Max mad at him, etc. The fact is, Jos did abuse max Emotionaly and deprived him of having a safe, caring, stable childhood, making his own his own “mini him” because he wanted Max to achieve the dream he never got to. When your parents abuses you it’s really hard to even realize it because we get fed the ideal that family is everything and that everything our parents do is the absolute truth and the right thing, but that’s not how real life works. It doesn’t matter that Max ended up being world champion, that doesn’t erase the fact that his dad overstepped and abused him emotionally.

I will start by saying Max is the driver that got me back into F1, probably the most purely skilled driver I have ever seen. However, I feel he got his occasional over aggressive attitude from his dad. And knowing what we know about his childhood, I feel bad for Max. As a father I would never treat either of my sons like that, toughening them up a bit is one thing but I would never ditch my young son at a gas station or not talk to them for a week. It really shows in Max’s demeanor in some ways, looking from the outside in. That being said: Go Red Bull! Go Max! I hope he win that Driver Champ title so he can one up his dad yet again

It goes both ways. Max is an F1 driver, born in wealth and now perfectly able to make his own wealth, his own success. He has his father to thank for that. Just like pretty much everyone in F1 by the way. Considering the investment and mentoring, Max is highly privileged, even for F1 standards. But when you take a look at what he had to endure... his father Jos is a difficult man. Trailer park born and raised. Hot headed. Max is a much more gentle soul. You bet Jos was hard on him, we don't even know half of it. People call Max spoiled but they have no idea. @@intrax2tv Yes I remember Silverstone well. I also clearly remember people baying for his blood and wanting extra penalties because he failed to make an apex and would have forced somone off track if they hadn't held their line. ( I actually agreed with the penalty as it was a bit reckless.) I do wonder though what people would have said if he missed the track completely, or if the other driver sacrificed the corner and drove off track to avoid the collision...... any thoughts? Also I was complimenting max on his driving and steely focus and determination. I still think he is an incredible talent and will be a multiple world champion in the future! That doesn't mean I have to like him though..... And seriously have you looked at the pictures of him in his carting days lol?

Racing is in Max's bones, it's all he thinks about. I recall an interview where they were asking drivers what they planned on doing for fun after the race weekend and Max said "hop into the sim." Almost 6 minutes but not one clue about the tight friendship Jos had with Michael Schumacher to the point of spending family holidays together. So pointers will have been exchanged between Jos and Michael on how to teach the children racecraft physically and mentally on and off track. For those who have watched the Schumacher documentary on Netflix. Look closely at Michael and look close at Max now. Jos and Michael both had immens respect for Senna who was an ideal for them, so I am sure that they will also have tried to implement some of Senna into the children. Hence Max at times looks like Senna, other times like Schumacher and sometimes like his dad. In the end Max will be Max, but he is definitely an accumulation of experiences of 3 great drivers in each of their own way. One thing the 3 drivers had in common though, and that was a certain level of aggression. Like Hamilton can expect Max to be there, so in the past you could expect Ayrton, Michael or Jos to be there if you'd give them the opportunity. I think in a way this kind of annoys Lewis deep down though. He wants to be like his idol, but some young rookie came along and that young one suddenly gets compared to Senna. It must do something with a driver depending on how jealous they get.

I avoid responding to anecdotes , hypotheticals like yours as it keep you sane but it’s still entertaining . First , great point , Schu could of and might have been more impresionable than Jos. they need a narrative and family narratives sell like porn. Jos is def an important variable to the success but in regard to his role , was that of a parent and coach . Different way of influence . P.s. Yo comment was a good analysis but ya lost me with Hamilton. Jealous? Yea prob , hes human . Is it a moot point to your overall analysis : Yeah Prob

Only overtake in hard corners, drive the cart in the rain over and over again, maintain own cart think together about cart setup and so on. Jos knew what he lacked in F1 and teached his son. And the fact that his mom was also a good racing driver makes Max one of the ultimate drivers from his generation. And his down to earth attitude is also one big plus. In Dutch we call that "nuchter" translated sober in english, but it has nothing to do with alcohol ;)
