Here's a guitar lesson on Run Through the Jungle by CCR. The song was written by guitarist and songwriter, John Fogerty. It was included on their 1970 album Cosmo's Factory. The song's title and lyrics, as well as the year it was released, have led many (including me!) to assume that the song is about the Vietnam War. This makes sense, as previous CCR song, like “Fortunate Son” were protests of the Vietnam War. In a 2016 interview however, Fogerty said that the song is actually about the proliferation of guns in the United States.

What is a diad? Is it a two-note chord? If it is, then i love it! I've met many musicians and had a few music teachers in the past, and i learned that there is a controversy about what is a chord and what isn't! Many of the artists i've met said that a chord need 3 or more notes (and no matter the inversion, they're composed by roots, 3rds and 5ths) but what about harmonies between two notes (like a power chord composed only by a root and a 5th). I know it's a matter of opinion, but still, i think it's unfair to not call a 2 note chord "not a chord"... Chords are people too and they deserve love and respect. So fuck yeah, diads!

Hi. I know the song. (BTW, it's hard to remember if you start a new thread. If you reply to your original comment everything is kept together. I get dozens of comments daily, so it's hard to remember which conversation this was about. Sinister Purple if I remember correctly.) It's not one of my favorite Creedence songs, but I always like JF's playing and singing, so it's all good.

Fogerty tunes all strings down a whole step and plays out of an Em shape which allows the 2 top strings to ring. It gives a more swampy sound.

Nicely done. What are your tone controls? Thank you!
@MarkZabel
@MarkZabel 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Charlie. I'm guessing that the EQ on my amp is basically flat. So if you're using a guitar with a single coil in the neck position I'd start there. All guitars and pickups differ, so add or subject mid-range, bass, and treble as needed. If you're using a humbucker or P90, you'll probably want to ease off on the bass and mid-range a bit. But be willing to test it and let your ears decide. As they say, your mileage may vary!
@charliejohnston5334

Thank you, Mark, for your kind reply. I was more interested in the delay setting. It sounded like a little delay with some reverb thrown in. I’m not a big pedal guy, though I do have an inherited Boss GT-5 that I’ve not really made friends with. I think you nailed the tone for this song. Thanks again!!!
@MarkZabel
@MarkZabel 4 жыл бұрын
@@charliejohnston5334 Hi Charlie! I see. Sorry I misunderstood. I probably had a little reverb. I might have had a little delay too, but if so, I probably didn't put much into the mix. I there's anything else it would be a little compression. I'll often put some compression onto my Strat style guitars to give just a little more sustain.
@charliejohnston5334
@charliejohnston5334 4 жыл бұрын
Mark Zabel Great tips, I think John Fogerty recorded that song with an ES-175. My HSS Strat would make a good substitution. Ironically, it turns out that Fogerty wrote that song with gun control in mind forty years ago. It was also the source of a lawsuit when, following the acrimonious break-up of CCR, Fantasy Records owner Saul Zaentz sued Fogerty over his single “Old Man Down The Road”, claiming he had plagiarized himself.....since Zaetnz had shrewdly purchased the entire CCR catalog masters. Though Fogerty eventually won, the dispute over who should pay legal fees ended up in the Supreme Court.....oh.....you probably know this already.
@MarkZabel
@MarkZabel 4 жыл бұрын
@@charliejohnston5334 Yeah, crazy legal story for sure! I did read that it was about gun control according to Fogerty ... so it must be right. But I always figured it was about Vietnam. I guess I was wrong ... but given the time and the "jungle" ... seemed obvious. Interesting the meaning we assign for ourselves.
