12:56 The thing with bluffs is they can be caught by paying attention to when exactly the stops happen. So, if you set a stop on opponent's main phase, but they don't play anything, they will know about the bluff, because naturally the game would pause for you at the beginning of combat (with a few exceptions, which are related to opponent's board), not in the Main. If you expect a play from opponent in their first main phase, you set a stop there to bluff, but then you have to remove it when they cast something, before clicking Resolve (unless you expect another play there), but place another one in Combat Phase instead, otherwise you holding priority in Main Phase and preventing automatic transition to Combat Phase tells them that you had manual stops. If you don't expect a play from opponent in their first main phase, then you have to put a stop only in Combat Phase, where the game would naturally hold priority for you if you had something. Unfortunately there is no way to bluff for every kind of opponent's behavior other than playing on full control all the time. You have to guess whether opponent is going to play something in their Main Phase or not. The same thing is true for second Main and End Phases. And if opponent has some triggers at, say, Upkeep, and you want to bluff, say, a removal spell for their creature, you have to set a stop at the Upkeep and in the same manner remove it before clicking Resolve for the last trigger. Bluffing is really hard in digital Magic.

Played Esper control for 7-8 games and face nothing but control mirrors, switch to runes and play mono white the next 5 matches

Is Hinata still a major player in the format? I haven't played against one in weeks and I can't recall CGB playing against any in videos in quite awhile. Control has mostly moved to either Esper or old Izzet dragons with a Hullbreaker.

There's a version of this deck I played against that ran the changeling that turns into a creature when entering the battlefield. I was playing runes. You can imagine my frustration.

I've been having great plays against runes with Orzhov control. Just ignore the token theme that people run and go straight control. Izzet beats it up but it wrecks runes as well.

I agree that whenever I play an aggro deck, it always feels like I'm on the draw more. That being said, I think that's just because aggro is way more play/draw dependent than midrange and control (although those do still like being on the draw), so you tend to notice it more.

Sagas enter the battlefield with the first counter on them triggering chapter 1s effect kinda like planeswalkers enter with the amount of loyalty. Classes are a regular enter the battlefield effect so Proctor should tax those.

I've played this deck extensively on the ladder, and I can say pretty confidently that this doesn't really "crush" runes. Not drawing a card off their runes isn't the end of the world for them, and they can also survive only casting one spell per turn. In order to beat runes, you need those cards AND also draw Halana and Alena, preferably also with Luminarch. The hate-bear pieces just don't do enough on their own. I think I win more often against runes by using Halana and Alena to simply grow my creatures faster than they can, and occasionally steal a win with Hopeful Initiate blowing up their enchantments. HOWEVER, I have gotten a lot of random wins from other decks that randomly get hosed by the hate cards. Turns out the majority of the top played decks really don't like Strict Proctor.

Played gw enchantment. Still beat this deck in tier 1 of platinum. Smashed it lol. Started running greatness enchantment

Hey CGB, have you tried Intercessor's Arrest for a few white decks? It shuts down planeswalkers pretty hard

The flip to go first or second does not in fact seem random! There are reddit posts with large data sets showing that higher cmc decks tend to be pushed to being on the draw. It's so stupid! Combine that with the non random matchmaker and that's one reason I don't play arena much anymore.

Is there a Jin-Gataxis and archon deck? Not certain how that would work if it counters the first spell and archon makes a 1 spell turn.

I know the pain of being on the draw a lot. I had a day where I played 16 games on the draw, IN A ROW! I won one of those and the rest I could’ve won if I had been on the play.

I did not have enough wild cards to build the deck with reidane so I replaced with roiling vortex. which won me a game by preventing them from getting life with their life linkers. Lol I also ran into a few CGB watchers with the same deck.

This is what I meant when I said Runes is trash. I am well aware of Blue's experience and skill. It wasn't a dig at him, the deck relies on too many effects that are easily exploited. Sure, Archon is rotating soon, the Proctor will be around for a while along with other cards that wipe out every creature Runes needs to win. Culling Ritual, Hidetsugo Consumes All, Path of Peril. Runes is a one trick pony, successful for a week while everyone was busy checking out their new cards.

I always complain to my girlfriend about how I always seem to be on the draw. One day she decided to tally for me. I played 20 games that day. I went first TWICE and was on the draw EIGHTEEN TIMES. If I wasn't already a control player that day would have made me switch, I'm sure of it.

I think it's sad that people can't wrap their heads around beating runes without a special deck just for that. I get it. You want to play your Farewells and Liers and Hullbreaker Horrors but the thing is... your opponent wants to play the game too. He would like to put things on the board and have them stay on the board without you wiping the board every turn. He would like to see creatures do battle and combat tricks actually be something worth including in a deck! Imagine that for just a minute! Here's hoping next set control is shoved further back in the meta and magic actually becomes a game again!

Just hit Mythic with Runes today as a newish player with a sub-optimal land base running two Evolving Wilds. Only had to grind at the end of Tier 1. Time to play an entirely different deck. Note: Weird thing is I played very few mirror matches with Runes deck. Lots of White Lifegain/White aggro and Orzhov Control match ups.

I've never met somebody who has gone first more then going second, I have no idea how they figure it out. I've been playing this game for years and the math doesn't lie. Something defiantly is F'd up on this game as far as going first vs second. My theory is this, if you have more cards in your vault you will be forced to go second to make this a "fair" experience. So the people who have invested less money will win more often thus wanting to play more to eventually buy some shit. That would be the reason behind it, but I have no idea.
