You missed the forests, lakes, and resorts in the northern forested part of the province. Highly recommend making another trip and heading anywhere north of Prince Albert.

The seagulls thing freaked me out after I'd moved from the West Coast to Calgary (I'm now back home). The thing I noticed about it though, is that Prairie gulls(and I've spent a lot of time in Sask too) sound different from ocean gulls. The biggest thing that threw me though was that the smells when I hear them are so different. Instead of rotting seafood smells the land gulls accompany different decay smells, mostly garbage. The best things I ever did in Sask were Mosaic, ice fishing, and skidoing. "The people are so friendly," is something you'll hear a lot about Saskies but, no matter how many times you hear it, they're even more welcoming than that! Long may they reign, on the Saskatchewan plains! Oh - and Alberta is flatter than Sask. That blew my mind. You know how you can tell you've driven over the border between AB and SK? The roads change from terrible to smoooooooooooth, except for the "chck' sound every 3 feet or so between the concrete slabs. Oh my GOD. I miss the Prairies. 😮💀 I'm sorry to report I hate saskatoon berries though. They're too grainy/meaty/weird-feeling - those seeds make them unenjoyable. Flavour, sure, but I detest biting into the berries themselves.

Should also mention the athabasca sand dunes, very interesting place to see.

Great overview. I live in Regina, and I found it informative and positive. A couple of things to add: 1) if you go further north toward Prince Albert, you’ll find numerous lakes and resort towns nearby. Plus, the northern lights are easily seen from there; 2) as expected, hockey is a popular winter activity here.

Most of the scenery is north of the Saskatchewan rivers. There are a million lakes up there to attract seagulls, known as "Rats of the Air" by farmers. It's also a paradise for watching other birds.

We plug in the block heater on vehicles, it’s to keep the oil warm when it drops below -15 to -20, otherwise they’re very rough starting, or just won’t start. 🙈Lol!

The plug hanging from the front of the car is for a block heater, it keeps the oil and the engine block from freezing overnight. It normally doesnt heat the cars interior but you can get small heaters that you bolt into the vechicle and it will keep the windows from fogging up overnight, but uses alot of electricity. Its better to just use your remote atart and leave the defrost on full blast when you park for the night. Start the car from inside your home, give it 10 minutes and you dont have much to scrape off the windshield and windows.

Thanks for the thoughtful accurate description of our southern two largest Saskatchewan cities and their surrounding areas! If you are an outdoors person I think you would be blown away by the other half of the province north of Regina and Saskatoon into the northern boreal forest and many northern lakes. The geography is very different up north compared to the expansive beautiful open southern prairies that we often are noted for. Many of our American friends often head to northern Sask for fishing and hunting. I go north for the unending options for backcountry canoeing, camping and fishing. For my canoe trip in July I drove 8 hrs north to a secluded area! Thanks again for your post!

A fair and accurate presentation about Saskatoon and Regina as well as the areas around them. As others have said, there is more to the province in this but it is a great start to learning about Saskatchewan.

As for the back country roads, I was warned not to go on them till late summer when the MUD dries out,or you will get stuck,and need a couple of tow trucks to get you out!😮 As these roads are not gravel,just mud! One to pull you out of the feild,and the other to pull him out! Big $$s

Congratulations on seeing SOME of Saskatchewan. As a person who has lived here all my life, I commend you on what you had to say of my province. However, I have to say it's a shame how much you missed. Don't feel bad though, cause people who live here have missed much as well. 90 minutes north of Saskatoon, you would have reached the Canadian Shield where we our National Park resides. Over half our province is covered in lakes and forests. 2 hours south of Regina is the Big Muddy Badlands. 2.5 hours southwest of Saskatoon, we have our own Sandhills near Leader, Sk. So yes, you saw some of what my province had to offer, however there was much more. Perhaps you'll come back and have a chance to see more

When I first came to Saskatchewan from Toronto. In 1978 there were no seagulls there were no squirls or hares. Now they are everywhere. We even have coyotes. My favorite beer from Saskatchewan is the Nokomis honey brown. Merci mon ami.

My brother always used to say about the seagulls "They're probably rejects from the factory!"

We plug vehicles in during very cold days so that your battery doesn’t freeze up otherwise she just won’t turn over and start. That’s where you will need a boost. As far as languages, Cree is not the only language spoken. People speak all kinds of other languages like polish, Ukrainian, German, Hungarian, Italian, the list goes on. I’m glad you got to experience this great province and it’s people. We are a friendly bunch lol

One myth is that it is dangerous in Saskatchewan. If you look at the stats you might think the violent crime is really high in Saskatchewan, it’s not, the reality is it’s only dangerous for a small percentage of the population that keeps attacking *each other*. It’s extremely easy to never get into that kind situation.

Our town almost has nothing here and nothing to do for the winter years(half the year) run down rink thats open for 1hr a week, abonded outside rink, run down school with no sports teams, just have a coop thats it. I feel stuck here, i dont recommend saskatchewan to anyone.
