I tend to blame the two of them here and believe the ad was fairly new. They both had forgotten about what things were like in the beginning and about how to be spontaneous allowing their lives to become apparently just boring and mundane. It was just happenstance she wrote the letter in the personals and he came across it as quickly as he did.. (Fun song none the less..:):))

Great reaction! This song came out during my senior year of high school. Quite a few of his songs have twists. I remember reading about a real life twist a few years ago. A man who had been married for 25 years went to a business convention in a nearby large city. One evening, when he got to his hotel room, he placed a call and made arrangements for 'female companionship'. About an hour later, he heard a knock on his hotel room door. He opened the door and the 'female companionship' the 'broker' sent to him... turned out to be his daughter!

Proffessor of Rock has a great interview with Rupert Holmes about this song. Really amazing how many accidents made this song happen. I like to assume at the end they both knew they were guilty, but realized that they just didn't honestly communicate with each other causing the breakdown. Happy ending.

The original title was just Escape. The record label added “(The Pina Colada Song)” because that’s the title people kept asking for.

I was a Senior in High School when this came out. Being 65 years old now...I can say, Having a couple pina coladas and getting caught in the rain ain't gonna solve your problems.....but it can be a good start. Great reaction!!
