45:00 100% Gaijin, too many hunters complain about mechanics of monsters such as it roaring too much, or they don't like it does status or stuns or tremors a lot. And they don't wanna take skills to deal with their issues because all they know is damage, it's pretty lame.
@corvidaegudmund1186

Yeah, there’s a reason why I don’t really have static skill “builds”. Certain non-damage skills are almost required for some hunts, in my experience. Sleep resist for Nightshade, full poison resist for anything with deadly venom, evade extender for “My barrel rolls cover a third of the arena” Kulve, full stun resist for any “stunned = almost guaranteed cart” monster...

Most of these can be dealt with either with armor skill, or by getting good enough to be capable of dealing with them without skills, so it's not really a trouble. The only real annoyance I have that doesn't really have any "armour skill" to deal with is some monster's flying habits. In G-rank with how much uptime the monsters have on their attack, a lot of time you end up having to wait it out, especially on weapons that don't have as much reach as others.

Amazing episode. I would really want to see underwater make a comeback in the next gen of monster hunter, simply because there's only so much verticality you can do. It's not like the next MH is going to be Monster hunter Space either. So them taking the risk again and tackling the underwater would be nice. The issues were quite drastic for many weapons and monsters could hit you in very weird angles or parts of their body that they couldn't hit you with on land. But the benefit to underwater was that you had such a large gameplay environment and a gameplay experience that it's totally worth it to try again, even if it isn't perfect. Plus I can't personally think of many other directions to expand the hunting experience. ---- I do agree that during Iceborne especially the conflict about "meta sets" and "casual gamers" became quite troublesome. Oh gosh I would have so much to say about this matter, but it'd be too much to write. Just play how you like to play and try to enjoy it. The MH community has to be the best video-game community or else it wont be worth asking new players to join the community. ---- Kinda weird how little we've seen about Stories 2, but I suppose Capcom is trying to focus on Rise. just hope they give Stories 2 more time inbetween MH games than Stories 1 had with Generation.

I appreciate speed runners, but things like, "If I hit the head 5 times it triggers a stagger," is meta-gaming; playing the game AS a game. But I play to escape reality, I shouldn't know, and don't want to know, how the mathematical mechanical details of the game function, that really pulls me out of the immersion. So they can have fun doing that, but I'm just gunna follow the tracks, cook some meat, trap the monster, and hunt it so the whole village has another meal on their plate and safety for their borders! etc. To be fair, then doesn't mean I play dumb, strategy is different than meta-gaming. It's still a very in world concept, to work on making useful builds (ie. ear plugs vs a screeching monster, etc)

Speaking of Brachydios, I just discovered the coolest exploit in MH3U: If you get Slimeblighted, wait for Brachy to strike you and then guard it. The monster's attack will detonate the blight (and you will get knocked around) but your guard pose will block the actual slimeblight damage! Now, on the subject of "metagame" builds, especially TDS, remember these are the guys who explored how to achieve the absolutely, mathematically highest single damage number _ever,_ but the original near-40-minute video was primarily focused on the research that went into (1) the build and (2) the actual run. They even gave a thoughtful disclaimer (at least in the Iceborne version of the video) saying how the weapon + armor was optimized _only_ for scoring a high damage number, and for normal hunts you would generally want to have some convenience/utility skills too. As for the "Lagiacrus problem", every time you go fight a monster in the northern half of the Wildspire Waste (especially a quadruped, like Teostra), try paying attention to whether or not their feet are _actually_ touching whatever contour of ground they're standing on. On a personal health note ... I myself am about 80kg, and my main form of exercise is bicycling 1 hour per day ... which is actually just my commute to/from work (measured round trip).

On the topic of Speedrunners and why people like myself dispise them. They think they're better than any other Hunter. In previous games, Speedrunning saw themselves as hunters playing a different way. There was more cooperation with all the hunters. People *loved* bringing new hunters unto the fold. The only exception was the StarKnight armor in 4U. If you had that armor, prepare for a horrible time online. (This experience was The straw that broke the camel's back and stopped me from playing MHG and MHXX online) However with World, it moved from cooperative to competitive. You would see them making terrible remarks at other Hunters. They started going on about how good they are and if you weren't using certain skills, you didn't know what you were doing. When Behemoth armor came out, they would crap on anyone not using it. Meta moved from being optimal sets to the only way to play. Here's a personal experience I had playing MHW on the PS4: Since I started the main the Insect Glaive in Icebourn, I use maximum Flinch Free (because I love the Tripple up buff from older games) and Power prolonger. I was in a hunt with random people and one was complaining I was using too much Flinch Free. That I should put in Challanger instead. No matter which hunt we did, or what I said to him, he kept focusing on DPS. Guess what his playstyle was. Hint: he kept bringing up clear times. I don't have a problem with people who choose to be Speedrunners. I do have a problem when they try to impose this on others and think they're superior to everyone else. The goal should be fun considering its a video game.

How is that the problem with speedrunners though lol sounds like just a bunch of randies whose first game was probably world and main ls. Why would actual speedrunners even be doing random hunts with other people instead of solo speedrun pb's weather it be individual levels or full game like social dissonance does
@AntonioCunningham
@AntonioCunningham 3 жыл бұрын
@@LayZKimochi420BlazeIt Because people are using the Speedrunners as a stick to beat other hunters and most of them... At least everyone I've run across have the elitist attitude that this is okay and they are better than everyone else. Just so it's clear, I love the podcast and enjoy the conversation, but both have made reference to them being better when they're not. It's just a different style of play. That's why I didn't have a problem with in pre MHW. When I get home, I'll see if I can tag a podcast with Speedrunners and you can see for yourself why I despise them now.

That's not the speedrunner community's fault. Like in any other games you always have people copying things and repeating what "their idol" say without understanding anything or the context. They watch their favorite streamer, youtuber, player and just parrot everything and preach to others to do the same. Often being more toxic/deforming the original message.

@@Squallcloud95 When they keep premoting that their way is supeior to any other way, then yes. They're partly to blame. They *did not* do this in previous Monster Hunter games. Now these speed runners are demanding we respect them, as if we're supposed to kiss their feet.

1:22:27 yeah ithink it's generally somthing that originates from any competitive co-op games, in FPS for example where winning or losing is often dictated by an overall team score a single novice player could determine a loss, by not contributing enough to your team's score and making your enemies life esaier. This is true for any game with some kind of performance related winning condition, so having experienced frustration towards a teammate not being "good enough", you don't want others to look down on you the same way . Something like "you don't wanna be THAT dude" Also i guess that never failing can be some form of self-validation. P.S. I think its something that really only happens in World/Iceborne, the Monster hunter comunity from MHG and MHGU is very nice and i haven't seen it happen yet, one can only assume that it's simply because World being so popular introduced some of the "western supercompetitive culture" but i'm not really sure about that.

To me there's 3 categories, casual play "playing through the game simply", meta speedrunning " damage addict, doesn't care for the story or other mechanics not involving smacking monsters, probably skips the dialogues and cut scenes. And then there's Hardcore gaming, " fully immersifying yourself in the game, completing everything, and enjoying every mechanic ." All three are great ways to enjoy the game, I definitely fit in the hard-core category, world had me hooked, 3000+ hours, now I've been playing freedom unite! So much excitement for rise!

In the earlier MH games I played (MHTri, MHFU, MH3U, MH4U) I never really made unconventional builds because I just wasn't that great at the game and needed the damage boost to not sit in quests for ages. In base World though, I actually started doing non-meta stuff when I got annoyed by meta stuff and my coop experience. I loved the shield bash combo of the Sword and Shield. The feel of it is nice, it looks like you punch the monster in the face like a madman and it was actually pretty powerful too. And when I noticed that, oh man. I actually built a KO punching set around the Great Girros SnS and pretty much threw monsters from punch KOs into paras into mounts. It's probably ultimately the same thing as your usual support SnS, but the fact I could make that one favorite attack really the main draw was awesome.

To me the difference is this: A Set refers to an armor set, and the appropriately called "set bonuses" there of. Alternatively a "set with max earplugs," as a mix of equipment to that gets that bonus. A build is the entirety of your equipment to optimize your weapon and playstyle. "I use a maximized defense+ and earplugs set in all my builds" for example.

For me the feeling of being worried that you are "holding your team back" or whatever is an anxiety thing. It is especially prevalent in team based PvP games like League of Legends or Overwatch where if people feel like you aren't pulling your weight they'll often flame you pretty hard. I get anxious if I feel like I'm not completely confident in my ability to do what it is we are doing. It's often bad enough that I rarely play co-op games with other people. I prefer solo play most of the time anyway so it works out, but sometimes it would be nice to be able to do both. I've played 350 hours of world and 60 some odd hours of GU and 99% of that was solo play. I never even did Kulve Taroth or any of those things because co-op was required. I could easily see myself having put in more time if I was more open to co-op play.

Potential topic for a future podcast: The demand for Hunter Arts/Styles to return? There's a lot of doubt as to *IF* they will ever come back _(I think it's more likely than not they'll remain a Generations specific feature)_ however, I think the constant asking about it indicates a very real demand that's probable to be fufilled: Variation in weapon movesets, so two Switch Axe users won't necessarily have the exact same moveset. There are some weapons that already do this in "soft" ways _(gunlance shelling types, SA and Charge Blade, bowguns in general)_ but do you guys think this demand should be fufilled by some kind of system, and if so, what do you think it should look like? _(On a personal level, I think having a series of moveset changes be implemented as Skills is fully possible. eg. if equipping Glavenus armor gave some moves Sharpness restoring qualities, or if Brachydios armor let you place your own slime with certain attacks)_ Oh, and as a podcast related flex: I have personally beaten Super Hexagon, on Hyper Hexagonest. (68.12 seconds) My record on Hexagon is 276.17 seconds. These records are on PC and I did them with left/right keys, personally can't imagine playing other way.

Monster Hunter World was my first game in the series. I've been interested in it for years before that game came around, but the stars never aligned. My interest in it was never really high enough to find a way to get into it (usually not having the right platform or not having all the games on my radar.) When you were talking about some players telling others how they should play the game, it struck a cord with me, and I think Capcom somewhat had a negative impact on that issue. What I really hope to never see again in the same form are the siege missions, mainly Kulve, not sure whether Safi was better because I didn't fight it as much. I assume some players liked these, but that doesn't really change my personal feelings. The rewards were random, which in combination with the events only being available at specific times meant there was a lot of grinding involved. That alone wasn't so bad, what I really hated about these events was that they were 4 player difficulty only, and also purely designed as dps encounters. While they were collaborative, for maximum efficiency you had to achieve almost all goals in your own team within the same number of tries as the other teams, actually turning it into something like a race. So everyone was more or less required to do great part break damage, in a short amount of time, while also making sure to never cart (eating for the free revive made that a bit better at least). It was just pure stress for me. As you mentioned, I didn't want to be the guy to ruin it for the rest of the team, and I also didn't want to have it ruined for me after putting in full effort for the entire run. If the encounters had just been a bit more relaxed in their pacing, less random so people could actually get what they wanted with some degree of certainty, or simply designed with single players in mind, I think they would have provided less breeding ground for that kind of elitist thinking (I don't like using the word elitist but can't think of a better one right now.) Since the topic of speedrunners came up during your discussion, I also agree that they're not the problem. One time I just happened to browse a few speedruns and I found one for GS. I saw the monster and the time it took, and because I was very attuned with GS at the time I did some mental math and had no idea how they could have possibly done that. After watching the run, I finally understood. Thinking back on it now, I have to say if you watch that hunt and think "That's how you're supposed to play the game, and I will tell everyone who doesn't that they're wrong" you're insane.

in 4=3U i mained Hammer, Dual Blades and Long Sword and i loved underwater combat, i want it to return but not in rise, while it would fit in the verticality i just dont think the switch could handle underwater, i think that underwater should be the concept for the 6th generation of games since they will be on the much more powerful next generation of consoles.

I don’t mind people who speed run in any way. I think the beauty of monster hunter is it can be played in many different ways and with many different weapons, this makes a game stand out as true quality to me. You can be META or comfy and get the job done, you can speed run in 2 mins or chill run in 10mins still getting the job done. You can be boring and use SNS 🤪🤪 or a bad lad and use switch axe but either way you will never be a hammer bro! I actually don’t know what gaijin hunters main weapon is where as we all know ruri is a lunatic like Micheal bay who straps explosives on the end of a lance!

I definitely fell into the attack stacking thing in World lol. In older games it was so much harder to stack and customize skills but MHW made it easy with the charm/deco system. Idk what they'll do in Rise, but I want to ease up and go back to my comfy hunt sets that make the hunts just fun

i own both 3U and 4U on the 3ds but i just can't go back to that small screen after having World and GenU on the much bugger Tv screen, i would be all for them either porting or remaking the older games for the switch though, i love monster hunter 4U because it introduced me to 2 of my favourite things about the series, the Insect Glaive and mounting

honestly at this point the only way they can bring back underwater combat, that would be somewhat accepted by the fan-base, would be as a single arena/siege (preferably with a lot of artillery so that everyone that hates it will have alternative) battle but even that doesnt make all that much sense because they will have to add all that codding not only to the monster but for hunters and weapons as well

seeing as how they are having a crossover event between the 2 games i would hope that they come out around the same time, i don't want to be waiting months for the crossover stuff considering that by that time i would of probably stopped playing regularly which is what happened with world and iceborne and all of it's updates , skipped over allot of updates because they just came too late for me to care and i was busy playing other games at that time only coming back for bigger events such as alatreon and behemoth. i don't want that to happen with rise, although i will probably come back allot later and pick it up again like i have with all the older portable games and Gen Ultimate.

So in World every monster had every weapon, but I see things like Great Wroggi only had 3 weapons back in the day, and I wonder if monsters like that will get new weapons for every type, or if we'll be back to the older way of monsters only getting some weapons.

I personally HATE any kind of CC (crowd control) especially hard CC like stun or a roar. self-imposed CC is really annoying but acceptable since it's the limitations of the game engines/balance/design (one of those 3 usually) so I always run every skill that gives me more control over my character, which is also why i love sword and shield and charge blade the most since I feel like I have great control at all times compared to other weapons. the insect glaive feels good too, but I like being able to block and not only rely on dodging .

1:35:35 The thing which worries me: the MP is locked behind a paywall for switch (unlike 3DS and like for PS4/Xbox) and Capcom may release endgame DLC monsters after launch. If I take World/Iceborne as an example, we might see again MP-forced monsters with meta armor/rewards behind completion. Rurikhan roasted me for complaining about this, but I stand completely to my position: stuff like Behemoth, Ancient Leshen or Safi'jiiva are T. R. A. S. H. Not only they gatekeep players behind the ability or not to play online ($$$) rather than their actual skills, but because they are MP forced, the armors/weapons need to be THE best to keep the sessions alive as long as possible (put some RNG as well to extend the lifespan even more), else early players will do them couple of times before moving on and these MP-forced monsters become unplayable for late players who find nobody to hunt with them. MP-forcing in World/Iceborne not only was a kick in the nuts for players who don't want to pay monthly or simply can't play online, it killed on purpose the relevance of the tree weapons and armors to make the MP-forced monster relevant. Capcom seems to have moved away from this shit after Safi'jiiva with the scaling of Kulve Taroth, Alatreon and Fatalis, so hopefully, we will not see this in Rise. Hopefully.

I don't remember roasting anyone over this. I do get frustrated when someone says a monster is trash because it's scaled for Multiplayer since all hub quests are essentially scaled for Multiplayer in previous monster hunter games...
@johan9428
@johan9428 3 жыл бұрын
@@rurikhan I do remember that, during your Alatreon delayed due to Covid-19 video. Long reply here, but I don't like stating things without explaining: It is inexact to compare previous MH gathering hub monsters with stuff like Behemoth. Gathering hub monsters were scaled for 2 (3 for the most difficult like lv140 monsters) players while MP-forced monsters in World/Iceborne are 4 players scaled with often solo-punishing gimmicks like tornados spam of Behemoth or OS inescapable pin attack. And I don't even talk about the lv grinding of Safi and Kulve sieges solo. Ancient Leshen, a HR monster, has 67k HP while Gogmazios, the spongiest G rank monster of MH4U has 18k HP (22k HP if you factor the 20% damage reduction from G rank). I am a casual player who did MHFU, MH3U, MH4U and MHWI (MR Kulve Taroth, Alatreon and Fatalis included) completely solo. G ranks (even the very endgame) in previous games are perfectly fair for solo. In fact it is comparable to solo MR Iceborne IMO (regarding the overall time to clear a quest). MP-forced monsters in MHWI on the other hand have way too much HP to be cleared solo. You basically need to be a speedrunner for that.

Idk what they'll do in Rise, but in MHW for IG with Flinch Free buffing the bug when u have all 3 extracts, you get earplugs. So I'd put 2 earplugs in my set and 3 Flinch Free, so then full extracts gives me full earplugs and I'm good to go. No idea if that'll be as easy or beneficial in Rise tho.

I definitely alienated my friend during her iceborne playthrough by insisting that she understand and use skills properly, but she was using ko on dual blades (I'm a horn user), level one wife range and insisting she was fully healing me, poison attack on water blades etcetera. She was coming from a clan that babied her for whatever reason.

Women love hammer because of the myth of the Piko Piko Hammer . A magic hammer that can only be summoned by a women or feminine identity who is in true danger of loosening her heart to darkness. The myth states its weight is felt worse to those of the male or masculine identity. All of us women can well its pull just a hand away and draws us near.

Hey! They said many times that you can only have fun in this game group hunting. I guess a solo hunter like me is really bad in their eyes. Yes I AM just kidding. The only right way to play is whatever makes you feel like you got your money’s worth. Be that fun, a time killer, something you can play with others etc. =D P.S. I missed 3U for personal reasons, but I would have liked to try underwater combat. Great, now the idea of Lance Torpedo is stuck in my head =(

No. Khezu and Giggnox has never been in the same game. If you have one, you don't get the other. I'm tired of Khezu because he's getting too much representation. Edit: It would be great if both was in the game, but that's not the trend.
