This record is so underrated, during the guitar instrumental they are all soloing, it's just a magnificent song both in composition and lyrically, they were so so talented.

I think this may be the weakest tune on the album and it is still great. The break (is there a good word for three simultaneous solos?) is a full on Rush burn. Not expecting much love for this comment ;)

some older Rush fans didn’t accept this “new” sound.. but Power Windows went platinum within 6 months of release, and they packed Madison Square Garden and a bunch of other big venues on the tour.. so many catchy moments on that album… I had it on cassette tape 🤘🏽😆🤘🏽

This is one of my favourite songs by my favorite band, RUSH and I loved your reaction! I love your reactions! You're lovely, guys! You're very appreciative about the beautiful music and lyrics. This is a very emotional song, it's punchy and dreamy/atmospheric at the same time! Only Rush can do that! And that guitar solo from Alex (like many solos of his) sounds like an eagle flyng, specially on the second, dreamy part of it. So beautiful!

This was always one of my favs from Power Windows. On this album Neil was exploring the rhythms of Asia, Polynesia And all of the bells, gongs, thunder sheets, and bass drum sounds that have a long ,long, ambient decay.i can't think of any other rock drummer that delved into Chinese and Korean traditional rhythms and sounds. it was really only Power Windows and Hold Your Fire where we hear this in Neil's approach. He was innovating constantly.

Watching you guys react to this song and other Rush songs brings back the joy I felt when I first listened to them. This would have been one of the last songs I would have ever wanted you to listen to because it was never one of my favorites. But listening to it today with your reaction to go along with it, made me enjoy the song more than I ever have. To see someone light up like you guys did as the song progressed, was priceless to me. As a guitarist in a band that primarily covered Rush, I will tell you that this whole period of Alex's playing was basically untouchable. His earlier songs that everyone loves, follow certain structures and patterns that another person can emulate and predict, then he entered the mid 80's and all bets were called off.

I’ve been playing guitar for 30 years and I agree 100 times over. Signals, Grace Under Pressure, and Power Windows are not everyone’s favorites, but as a musician and overall music lover, I can objectively opine that Alex reached a certain apex in that period when his composition, where he sits in the mix, how the solos cut through and elevate the song, the balance between simplicity and technicality, all perfectly blend together. The man never writes a boring guitar part. Phenomenal albums and production.

Yup, and I think the only the reason Alex wanted the keyboards gone, is because he couldn't be arsed anymore. He basically wanted to smoke dope and plays riffs like from When the Wind Blows. :/

In 1975, Kiss took Rush, among other bands, on a 30 or 40 date tour with them so I'm sure Kiss was feeling the pressure of superior musicianship from Rush, even though they famously got along on that tour. God how I wish I could have witnessed one of those shows!! Ted Nugent floated around on that tour also...

You both nailed it! I used to listen to this on my Sony Walkman 11 when it was first released. This is one of the greatest songs ever written. Rush have the ability to convey emotion and tell a story through their music. To me the beginning of this piece sounds mysterious like everyone is trying to figure each other out. Then Neil joins them all together with the 4 pulse on the simmons electronic drum & the sustained note on Alex's guitar. Geddy starts the melody on the keyboard & Alex plays an arpeggio to accompany him. Rush continue to build throughout the song in a gradation until when the explosive triplet introduces the chorus"Right to the heart of the matter" No shame in shedding a tear in this one dude, I still cry every time I hear it. It's pure elation. Thank you both for covering it.

One of my favorites on my favorite album. This one and Hold Your Fire, as well as Presto, contain some of Neil's best lyrics imo. "Sometimes our big splashes are just ripples in the pool", and then on Territories you have "Better the pride that resides in a citizen of the world, than the pride that divides when a colorful rag is unfurled"... fucking Neil... jesus christ, does he nail the poetry on these songs!

That solo section is completely on fire. They let go of the radio friendly restraint and unleashed their pent up instrumental virtuosity. I felt like Alex was battling the synths for the midrange over multiple albums and while I feel like Counterparts was where he finally won that fight, Power Windows sometimes floaty guitar soundscapes produced some of his best solo work. Emotion Detector, Between The Wheels (Drop D Rush!!) After Image. He was melodically in the zone every time.

These songs do still sound good (this song was released in1985) but to be honest, these are 'average' Rush songs. They always sound like this. Well, not like this per se, their sound changed a lot over the years. :-) There aren't many clunkers in the Rush library. I'm really enjoying seeing you relate to and react to Rush. I can't get here fast enough when it's the two of you reacting to more Rush.

Good on you guys for covering this LP (hope you will, or have covered HYF as well). I am a VERY long time Rush fan. For too long, the synth-era LP's (Signals, GUP, PW, HYF) have been misunderstood. Alex Lifeson might have been unhappy about the change in his musical role, but it was during that period that he created a style of playing that was completely new, and profoundly influential for future guitarists. Progressive guitarists often avoid textural work; preferring overt displays of virtuosity. Lifeson created a new approach. He was as the nimble right hand of a pianist, dancing elegantly over the upper register. I cannot emphasize this enough. He changed the way guitarists viewed the instrument.
