Video taken on May 15, 2010, 6.00 PM at KFC rooftop, Nguyen Cahn Cha intersection, Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. Watching Saigon traffic is truly an exhilirating experience, crossing the streets is another story! You should never miss the chance to enjoy the traffic of this bustling metropolis when you hit HCMC! My first trip to Viet Nam was so great.

This is what you call skill and basic instinct. This intersection did'nt had a single accident in 3 weeks counting hundred of thousand vehicles, pedestrians, pushcart and animals that passes thru it. This is poetry in motion.

As someone who drove in Vietnam for 2 months, it's actually quite easier than it looks. The main difficulty is to keep tab of the 15 objects moving around you at all time, especially when these objects are of different types that act differently on the road (pedestrians, motorbikes, cars or trucks; the latter being the worse type of all). However, the speed is quite low, and everyone are used to that free-for-all style. Still one of the most dangerous country to drive in thought.

everyone honks all the time, they actually use it as a sonic location, sort of like whales or dolphins. You can't possibly look in every direction where somebody is, so you navigate a lot by hearing the honks. I lived in this city for a year, you get used to the honking fast.

@STRUMICH Accidents do occur but not as many as one would imagine. As bad as the situation looks in this video, it is exactly the same at all intersections and it is actually very safe and controlled, if you know what you're doing. All riders and drivers look at the traffice coming towards them, and if they sense that you will make a move they will slow down, they won't stop though, in most cases they will all slow down for you if you are determined to turn, check the video again and u'll see.

I don't see why people are always so shocked by this. the traffic moves slower, so there is ample time to move out of the way of any obstacles. you won't see an F-150 plowing through there at 60 mph.most of the vehicles shown are scooters, which aren't that fast to begin with. Instead of traffic lights, they prefer to use something called "common sense."

@cambridge0809 What a coincidence, I left Vietnam on this exact date that you recorded this video, after staying there for 6 months straight! I miss it so much. I love driving my scooter, I love the fact that I could speed and never get fined, I love the way all 4 wheel vehicles have to give way to me, otherwise big trouble for them if collision occurs. I love parking right in front of the restaurants, I love night driving the most, breathtaking! I had each hand on both brakes all the time :)
@2driftlong
@2driftlong 13 жыл бұрын
It's pretty much the same at roundabouts simply because the traffic is still the same - extremely hectic. Entering the roundabout is easy, leaving it can get hairy because you have to make sure the traffic coming into the roundabout are aware of your movements, generally they will see you and will slow down for you, in cases where you are caught of guard and you have to completely stop, just move slowly and keep your face onto the oncoming traffic, just like pedestrians, they move around you.

This really isnt as amazing as it looks, people in countries like this learn to expect absoloutly anything when they drive. People go the opposite way on a one way streets, drive on the sidewalk, brake suddenly, pedestrains are ALWAYS crossing the road, taxi drivers drive like maniacs, a lot of people drive motorbikes because of the traffic and cause theyre cheap. These people are always ready for anything. Although it may not look like it, these people are probably the best drivers in the world

Just people concerned for their own well-being.

Source please. And consider how many unshielded two wheeled vehicles are on the road in this clip. According to figures from the United States, you're 30 times more likely to die on a motorcycle than in a car. When you adjust for the ratio of 2-wheelers to cars, you find the US figures would balloon from 15 deaths per 100,000 vehicles on the road to 300 comparable to Vietnam's 50 deaths per 100,000 vehicles.
