This is from an official promotional CD that features interview responses by each band member, as well as several station liners by each band member to be used by radio stations. The interview questions are not recorded on the CD, rather only written in the liner notes. I have transcribed all the questions and featured them as the track listing. A last minute idea of mine was to use a text-to-speech program to have an audible representation of the questions, therefore making the interviews easier to listen to. The first track is a somewhat longer program that features a host retroactively playing a small handful of the interview responses, focusing largely on premiering Show Don't Tell, Presto, Chain Lightning, and The Pass. These four studio tracks have been cut from this video for copyright and simplicity purposes.
Track Listing:
01 - Rush Profiled [0:00]
02 - Geddy Station Liner 1 [9:30]
03 - Geddy Station Liner 2 [9:34]
04 - Alex Station Liner [9:39]
05 - Neil Station Liner 1 [9:44]
06 - Neil Station Liner 2 [9:48]
07 - Geddy, Do you think Presto is different from previous albums? [9:54]
08 - Geddy, What do you think your new producer Rupert Hine brought to Presto? [11:42]
09 - Geddy, The bass line of Show Don't Tell is kind of like a lead bass line. [13:33]
10 - Geddy, Who played the keyboard parts on Presto? [14:16]
11 - Geddy, You've always used foot pedals on stage to trigger keyboard parts. Are you going to have a real keyboard player on this tour? [14:48]
12 - Geddy, Who's voice is that at the end of Chain Lightning that goes "that's nice"? [15:22]
13 - Geddy, On the song Scars you drop from your normal high range of singing into a lower range. Why? [15:53]
14 - Geddy, What is the song Anagram about? [16:41]
15 - Geddy, How do you, Alex and Neil write songs together? [17:50]
16 - Geddy, How do you feel about singing Neil's lyrics? [18:54]
17 - Geddy, What was your first big gig in the U.S. like? [20:37]
18 - Geddy, Capturing a good live performance on tape is not easy. Yet Rush has three live albums out. Why? [21:45]
19 - Neil, What is Chain Lightning about? [22:59]
20 - Neil, Tell us about Red Tide. [24:45]
21 - Neil, What were your intentions in writing The Pass? [26:04]
22 - Neil, What is Scars about? [28:22]
23 - Neil, Tell us about the title track Presto. [29:39]
24 - Neil, In the liner notes for Presto you thank Mike Roberts "for the acorn of Superconductor". Who is he? [30:17]
25 - Neil, Tell us about Hand Over Fist. [30:45]
26 - Neil, What is Available Light about? [31:39]
27 - Alex, Do you see Presto as a step in a direction away from previous Rush records? [32:19]
28 - Alex, How did the cover for Presto come about? [33:37]
29 - Alex, Who is the Wrabit Wrangler? [34:12]
30 - Alex, Has your friendship with Geddy and Neil been a critical factor in the longevity of the band? [34:22]
31 - Alex, Would you agree that Rush is a "thinking man's hard rock band"? [35:32]
32 - Alex, Has drawing the line between creating art and selling a product ever been a problem for Rush? [36:17]
33 - Alex, Has Rush ever considered corporate sponsorship? [37:35]
34 - Alex, Rush is known for its really diehard fans. Why do you think they're so dedicated? [38:52]

I’ll never understand the dislike for this album? So many great songs!

I agree. It's a fine album. Maybe not in the top tier but still very good. On the other hand, Roll The Bones is a definite lower tier album.

That was back in the day when the brilliance of PW and MP was still fresh in peoples' minds. These days the phoned-in droning dirge-fests that are S&A and CA make Presto seem like a masterpiece in comparison.

Presto is disliked by many. I think it is one of their best, and there is no denying that Geddy was at his peak here - especially vocally.

I hope the text-to-speech voice asking the questions is satisfactory. It was the best voice out of the options I had, as the rest sounded a bit too robotic. It was a last minute idea of mine, and I think it works best this way rather than upload just the answers that were on the promo CD. My initial idea was to write title cards, but I didn't want it to rely on visuals for context. This certainly was a unique recording, I haven't found any others like it.

@@IntraLuxAmaha I have a good bit more interviews, all 1990ish and onward. As for promo CDs in the style of this particular one, I uploaded one for Roll The Bones around the same time as this one, and I have one for Vapor Trails I’ve yet to get uploaded. As far as I’ve seen, those are the only three promo discs made in this style.

Me again! I am so glad you took the time and effort to do this. The text to speech was very effective and hardly noticeable. And I simply listened to it and went about other activities at the same time. Since this was on some promo CD now lost to time I am sure I would have never heard it had you not done this. Of course it could come reissued when Rush gets to their 40th anniversary celebration release of Presto in 2029. But who knows if I will even be around then and since I haven't bought any of their anniversary editions I probably won't buy that one either! Unless of course I strike it rich (hope hope hope!).

Oh how I miss Rush, so glad I heard them back in 1977 and they have been the soundtrack to my life (thank God). Found a new, sealed vinyl copy of Presto recently, couldn't believe it, very solid album.

Yes! Thanks so much for sharing this. Senior in HS that year and saw them in Cincinnati. A truly phenomenal album that brings out the best of Rush in 4-5 minutes songs. Love Alex's quote that "he has troubling understanding (Neil's) lyrics." Great addition to the Rush vault!

"Writing is the most enjoyable thing?" 2 years between albums? I can't even remember albums coming out in less than 5 years - sometimes now 8-10-15 years! You can say times have changed and bands make more money touring.....but I think some bands just don't like to write/create anymore. Art is not the goal. There's a lack of passion in creation in so many bands these days. For the smaller bands it makes sense cause they need to make the money to survive. For bigger bands like Metallica, I can't see it as anything other than lack of interest.

A GREAT MASTERPEICE OF A RECORD. THOSE DAYS WERE ROUGH FER ME. I HAD GIVEN UP PLAYING MY PEAVY PREDETOR GUITAR. WASNT FEELING IT FER AWILE? THEN I LISTENED TO THIS RECORD. OF COURSE I GOT HOOKED ON IT. LISTININ ON THE "WALKMAN" IS WAS A GREAT ESCAPE. (USED LOTTSA BATTERYS). I OWE THIS ONE ALOT. WITH MY SIMPLE "BIG MUFF"...(REMMEMBER THOSE)? I WAS DETERMINED TO MASTER IT. I DID!! BUT HAD TO USE A DIFFERENT PICKING TECHNIQUE TO KEEP THE NOTES FROM "DYING" TOO EARLY. ? THEN I DISCOVERED "THE DELAY PEDAL" . AFTER I ADDED THE MEDIUM DELAY THE NOTES LASTED LONG ENOUGH TO STITCH IT ALL TOGETHER LIKE A SEAMSTRESS.! NOW I FOUND I DIDNT HAVE TO LABOR/STRUGGLE WITH ALL THAT.....I WAS "FREE!!! FREE AT LAST!!! AFTER THAT I COULD BREEZE THRU ANY WHOLE RECORD AND FER MYSELF AT LEAST?.....MAKE EM ALL EVEN BETTER THEN THEY ARE! TURBOCHARGED! ON THE VERY FIRST TRY NO LESS? AFTER MASTERING "PRESTO"....NOTHING ON THE U TUBE CATALOGE IS BEYOND ME! ON SPEK! I OWE THAT ONE N THOSE GUYS ALOT. THANKS FELLAS! I READALL THE GUITAR MAGAZINES...HAD GUITAR BUDDYS...LISTENED TO ALL THE INTERVEIWS ......I WISH SOMEONE YEARS AGO TOLD ME ABOUT "DELAY"?
