Agree, they do a great job, fantastic... my only comment is the tempo was just a bit too fast. Rush is a bit more mellow.

@@macintosh3990 I dunno, Exit Stage Left had a down tempo YYZ, but theres definitely other up tempo versions of YYZ. So not even Rush was 100% on the tempo, nothing wrong with that at all though.

@Wida A Huh? They both released in 1981, Exit Stage Left was several months after Moving Pictures released, I think. Go listen through the album again, really good stuff. That recording of YYZ is down tempo and has like a 2 or 3 minute long drum solo. ESL also has a really great version of Red Barchetta.

Same with Mangini...horrible drum sound, no feel, no creativity in his DT drum parts. These come up all the time. I'm not agreeing with any of it Btw... Just saying that Internet opinions are rife on both drummers. I guess it's just which ones you're sensitive to?

Gilbert’s pinch harmonics are fabulous. He is a guitar for all seasons virtuoso imho. Right up there with Jeff Beck and Eric Johnson in carving beautifully bizarre and often mysterious fills and solos.

He definitely is. There are definitely better drummers, sure, but as the "public face" of drumming? Mike is the closest we have to Neil. He's someone the general (read: non-drummer) population can grab onto. He's incredibly skilled and because of his time in Dream Theater, he's much more well known than most other drummers, and he's also big on publicity (unlike Neil) so he has a leg up on taking the crown.

He's the former bassist for Cynic, a progressive death metal band; he's also the mind behind Gordian Knot a jazz fusion/prog rock outfit. Incredible musician, and always plays on a fretless.

Love MP's tribute to Neil Pert's cowbell solo that Neil performs in his classic drumsolo that I think almost everyone has heard, at least everyone who listens to Rush and progressive bands in excess, or are super-interested in drums, or are serious music-buffs. Really, really awesome, they are very talented musician obviusly but when i close my eyes and listen to the song its just no rush but if anyone can pull an awesome tribute is this guys

If anyone has a disparaging comment, they: 1. Are cowards who hide behind a keyboard and just have to be negative. 2. Have no idea what talent is 3. Have a very shitty set of speakers/headphones 4. All of the above. There is no other choice. This performance was flawless by all three musicians.

This is about as tight of a cover that I've ever seen & heard! Perfection. Given the musicians involved though, I'd expect nothing less from them. Well done, gentleman!
