The Real Thing and Wings of An Eagle are two of his biggest hits, but anything you can find from Russell is superb! Back in the early 80’s I used to sit and watch his sound check at the pub where my sister worked. It was usually just me and the sound guy. I felt very privileged to get a personal performance.🥰❤️

Russell Morris is an Aussie legend. Still playing live and still recording, well into his 70's. He's a contemporary of John Farnham. According to Russell, he offered this song to John, but John rejected it, because "it takes too long to get to the chorus". No disrespect to John, but I'm glad Russell recorded it.

One day when I was 10 yrs old I was visiting a friends' place when I heard a song on their radio. I was possessed and consumed by this song. I stopped and looked at the radio that the song was coming from. I loved everything about this song. The song was "Live with Friends" by RUSSELL MORRIS. I treasure experiences like that. "wings of an eagle" is my fave song from him. starts out with an optimistic tone, then gets a little bit wistful, trippy and psychadelic towards the end. really worth a listen but probably need to do the studio version given the layers of production on that track.

"The Real Thing", Russell Morris, was epic by world psychadelic standards at that time, the production was world leading. Another world first around that time was Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, with what might have been the world's first "heavy music". Lmao, bringing back memories of my older brother (10 years older- RIP Al) in a caftan and beads. Long hair half way down his back playing this 45 on his massive stereo. It was around the time Jimi Hendrix passed away as my brother who also was a a guitarist/singer was in deep mourning over his loss. It is amazing how some things can trigger memories. I was only about 7 years old, have a listen to "The Real Thing'' by the same artist as it was way ahead of its time and full of psychadelia, very trippy.

I've met Russell several times, he is such a nice down to earth guy. We took him for a burl on our motorcycle, he had a blast. We told him that we would often not be let into his gigs because we were dressed for riding (leathers etc) and he said if it happened again to tell them page him and he would fix it, well we rode to another state to see him play and yep they wouldn't let us in so asked that they page Russell to the door and he came straight away and told management of the venue that we were with him and we walked straight on in. He didn't have to do that at all, we were grateful and had a great night.

The 60's went through a change, with more Australian artists and groups; besides Russell Morris, you had the likes of The Masters Apprentices, Normie Rowe, The Easybeats, Johnny Farnham, Olivia Newton John, Little Pattie, Dinah Lee and Max Merritt. From this developed the music scene of the 70's. The talent seemed to be coming out of the woodwork.

Welcome to late 60s early 70s Australia 🇦🇺. His song THE REAL THING is iconic in Australia and is still in use today at events and commercials. WINGS OF AN EAGLE is great and the song MR AMERICA 🇺🇸 could have been about another man it sounds like it to me. Russell is gay so it's possible and if it is it must be one of the very first of that type of song. Russell still performs I think he is 70yo or so he's been doing blues for many years with a reasonable amount of success. I think his album SMASH MOUTH did very well. He is probably less than ten years older than me but I was still a child when he rose to prominence. I think he recorded his first song when he was 17yo. He always dressed well and he was my hero when I was a kid. I still listen to these old songs regularly.

Everyone was slim in pre 70's Australia's pre fast food days. .Home cooked meat or roast chicken (not fried) or fish and 3 veg kept us all fit and slim, wiry or stacked healthy units. The only thing to destroy health back then was the amount of cigarettes smoked and beer downed in youth that went ballistic on the body come middle age. Mid 80's saw the start of diet fads. Ahh I was so young and light and strong back then just floating on a wave of good music on a wave of the sea. I'm so glad those little tinny sounding transistor radios are dead and gone though.
