well he's not making Harden better. Teams are choosing to double and trap Harden and literally saying "We're not letting you beat us, we'll take our chances with Russ, we think him getting his doesn't have nearly the impact as you getting yours," and they're making the right choice. Russ going off doesn't have nearly the impact of Harden going off. They're saying "we'll let Russ get his transition buckets, and play him straight up but with light defense so we don't foul him, but we're not letting Harden get to Iso all game and put our entire team in foul trouble." If Russ could play better off the ball, or be a better 3 pt shooter, or be a player who commands double teams, it would make Harden better.

That’s what playing with ball dominant Russ turns you into, spot up shooters. Same for Harden, that’s why it doesn’t work with these two playing together. They need extremely good defensive players to surround them, all who can shoot the 3, to make the Finals, but even then they wouldn’t be able to actually win the championship playing that way.
