It's not that ridiculous if you think about it. We don't have a custom of openly smiling to any stranger, nor do we have a custom of being ready to make small talk with a person we don't know. For us, it's just natural; but for many european and american cultures, it's strange. So these classes could be viewed as teaching a custom that is widespread in the western countries, but is not in Russia, which is actually a good sign of hospitality.
@MetallicReg
@MetallicReg 6 жыл бұрын
Basically: If you smile without a reason, you are seen as a mentally ill person. So the "smile-lessons" are more like a further education in western habits and culture for personnel that needs it - so that those tourists don't misinterpret things. Don't forget that these kinds of tourists are not there to learn the culture of that place - they just want to party and see the games.

I hate this. The people of Russia are not to be set on the same step as Putin. Just as much as the people of America aren't to be set on the same step as Trump (well on the other hand, you elected him- it's not like Russia really had a choice) But the people of Russia are the kindest, most forgiving and friendly people I have meet. You especially should know that you shouldn't treat a country solely based on your opinion of their leader. It just saddens me to see this much hate for people who had no real choice. Are there many problems in Russia because of the current government? Yes. But does that make us as the people of Russia inhumane? No.

Russians dominate science and mathematics in USA. They are all very nice, some have a great sense of humor, I have a GREAT perception of Russian people. I can't say I have the same perception of their government, but I think we should think more highly of Russia in general and their citizens. The only thing that really concerns me is their stance on homosexuality. My middle school friend warned me about that when I was younger, he said it was pretty bad among the public

For the past 10-20 years we have been watching movies about the 70's and how extreme the West vs East propganda used to be. In 2018 I browse KZfaq's Daily Show, John Oliver and others and I'm able to re-live the history all over again. I pity the people who actually take these clips seriously.

I went to Russia as a tourist in Perestroika time. Russians were very nice. Most of them spoke either French or German and were glad to help. Some of them were scheming thieves but they were poor so I tried to keep an open mind together with closed pockets. Russia is beautiful, Moscow was a pleasure to visit, Russians were fun and friendly.

" As part of the settlement, even though the United States did not admit legal liability or formally apologize to Iran, they still agreed to pay US$61.8 million on an ex gratia basis, amounting to $213,103.45 per passenger, in compensation to the families of the Iranian victims" Yea, not the best, but a lot better than any apology Russia attempted to give.

Wow USA kills and then pays money!! Wonderful! Loss of lives is loss of lives...Americans cannot accuse other countries of something they do themselves. Some things USA does worse than others like destroying country after country to keep the petrodollar floating. Just look at the 51st state of Saudi Arabia! Criticism should begin at home.

How come Russia got to host it to begin with? Just money? The weird thing is that countries tend to lose money hosting such events. Not everyone, though, those contracted to build new stadiums are better off, of course.

Ok I know it's all in good fun and all, but this portrayal of just normal Russians as these super unfriendly and aggressive people that bite is getting annoying really fast. Criticize the government all you want, I absolutely agree with that, but the people have nothing to do with that

I can't possibly agree more, Maria. Trevor can hate on the government of Russia as much as he wants. Attack authority, and the spies and hackers you believe are stealing elections. Fine. But now Trevor is attacking old women and service workers. This is an example of "accepted left-wing racism" IMO.

Ahimsa _ the not smiling part is one thing and it's one that is accurate, Russians truly don't smile at strangers that often, so these "smiling classes" is an understandable hospitality thing. The problem is the "when do I bite", implying that Russians cannot smile without being agressive. That's what bothers me
