Russell, if you haven't been there yet, then you should definitely visit the "Depot" - a huge space with various street food in the former building of the trolleybus depot. There is a lot of different food, the most diverse cuisines of the world are represented - you will definitely find interesting dishes there for every taste and budget. I strongly advise you to go there to show the Western audience how Russia is "starving" during the sanctions. It is located near the Belorusskaya metro station.

f my washing machine or dishwasher broke, I would be the first to look there for the appropriate replacement part. Definitely better than just throwing away the devices if it's still worth repairing. Unfortunately, there are no such markets here in Turkey. Thanks for the video👍

There was huge open-air radio market, before shopping center was built. We came here kinda often in 90s-00s, when wanted to buy electronics, and we don't even live in Moscow

We too have electronic store streets like this. In vellore my district sarathi palace' and in madras 'ritchee street all electronic hardware and lot of pirated software and also whole lot of Malaysian, China origin spares.

Дааа,как понастроили на митинском рынке.Я там в 90е тусовался так как торговал на Нижегородском радиорынке а закупался на Митинском в Москве. Были времена ;)

А в Нижнем радиорынок ещё существует? (Давно не был в родном городе). Помнится, одно время он располагался в парке Кулибина, но потом переехал в Кузнечиху и разросся. Он до сих пор там, между Кузнечихой и Верхними Печерами?

@@sergeyshorokhov2167 Да,жив здоров,на Кузнечихе находится.Конечно не такое уж удобное с транспортной точки зрения место но зато никто уж не сгонит оттуда. По онлайн картам можно посмотреть как выглядит. Рынок называется"Герц". Радиодеталями конечно не так как раньше торгуют но есть ещё продавцы,в основном ремонт,телефоны,строй материалы и прочее..

@@TheRus13 просто видимо раньше радиодетали взять было особо негде, вот все и ездили по радиорынкам, а сейчас в любом городе есть Чип-Дип, а если там чего-то и нет, можно напрямую заказть на Али или Банггуд - вот поэтому прямое назначение радиорынка постепенно и теряется... Естественно, что 20 лет назад мы о таком и не мечтали. Хорошо помню, как паял ламповый усилитель для наушников (раньше можно было купить Laconic как в готовом виде, так и виде конструктора), и находил на Герце всё: и старые советские лампы "улучшенной" серии, и даже "аудиофильский" серебросодержащий припой. Эх, времена... )

Рассел, это далеко не единственный подобный рынок в России. Самое известное место такого плана - это, пожалуй, Горбушка (возле станции метро Багратионовская). А ещё такой центр на Савёловской. И это только в Москве. В других городах такие места тоже есть.

@@eptitsyn разговоры о сносе "Горбушки" идут давно, я читал, что там планируется строить жильё. Но в то же время мне на глаза попадалось интервью с руководством этого т/ц, и они утверждали, что процесс реновации будет не быстрым, и ещё минимум лет 5 они намерены работать на старом месте (в бывшем здании завода "Рубин"). Переедут ли они куда-нибудь или закроются - не сообщалось. Но пока что работают.

Аха. У нас в тц у метро рынок есть, тоже фотал товар, подошёл продавец и начал причитать)) ну в итоге товар был не куплен, было отправлено уведомление руководству, чтобы поучили товарищей, что покупатель имеет право товар снимать как ему пожелается)

I can tell you a story that Michael McFaul told when he was the US ambassador to Russia. In a nutshell:It was the first time he got to the Gorbushka radio market in those years and was surprised by the assortment of goods, but the most important thing is that he said that his son saw American programs and games in that market in the 90s before they appeared on his native market! He gave this interview, it seems, on Echo of Moscow. Naturally, the software was of course pirated ;)

We were trying to be good with western software market. In late 2000's schools, universities, govern and private business had to invest billions dollars, one teacher even was put in a jail for pirated Windows (r) in his school, so... But nowadays Intel and most of others H/W vendors even do not allow russians/belorussians to download drivers or firmware on their sites for an already purchased hardware. It looks like good ol'days are back.

@@user-db6pt5gq7u A first-hand example. I, as a very honest musician, have been buying virtual instruments and trying not to used pirated ones. Then, after the bloody events of February 21, when Ukraine invaded Russia first, I wanted to buy a strings library from Native Instruments. Their site outright told me that "we express solidarity and block any payments from Russia and Belarus". OK then. You don't want me to pay you 400$ for your strings library, that means I'm legally allowed to pirate it and use it for free. Thank you xoxo

Надо как в Белоруси - послать в /dev/null все претензии правообладателей из недружественных стран и прекратить преследование использующих забугорные решения. В идеале - как в Китае - есть вопросы по правообладанию из-за бугра к местным - извольте судиться с государством. В любых правовых областях. Вот это был бы номер.

Thanks, Russell. Although this is not really my environment, it's mind-blowing to see the varieties of goods and the endless choices of them. I am surprised to see they are selling the samogon machine, as it was many years ago an illegal enterprise. Well, you will not find anything like this for sure here in the US. Also, you will not find many repair places here as well. Even if you find one, the price of the repair will be so high that it will be cheaper to go and buy a new gadget. Very wasteful.

For some reason, such electronics markets(correct translation for рынок) are very popular in Russia, mostly in Moscow, as people here can afford. Me, as techno geek, visit them since 90s when they were built. They started as just standard market, no buildings, just tents and shipping containers later. Now almost all markets moved to few storey buildings, new built like this Mitino, or occupied soviet plants like soviet TV producer Rubin plant - now it is Gorbushka and Gorbushkin dvor malls. I worked as camera and music player seller in "Electronic world" mall South Moscow in 2005. Other two old and classic electronic markets are Tsaritsyno and Savelovsky. You can find very specific parts and devices, second hand products, gray imported popular things, many repair shops(no way to them). But mostly overpriced things. You need to have trade skills to win bargain.

Hello, Russel. Just some random info. At 16:40 in a middle of the shot is a set of soviet dosimeters used to control accumulated dose of radiation (4 gray tubes stuck in a box) and a device to reset those back to zero. Those could come from some school or military facility and then those are likely clean. But there was a place back in 1986 that potentially had a lot of used dosimiters unaccounted for. So, maybe you got an X-ray while walking in this shopping center :)

Расселл, ты был рядом с моим домом! Я живу на 13-м этаже в доме прямо напротив Радиорынка. Когда я вселялась в квартиру, на месте парковки радиорынка еще стояли палатки прямо на улице, и рынок был как настоящий. Потом построили это здание и палатки снесли. Ты не был на четвёртом этаже. Там столовая и кафе с сидячими местами. И даже парикмахерская. И сбоку от рынка вход в отель, как бы в этом же здании. Интересно было прогуляться с тобой. Я и не знала, сколько всего интересного на Митинском радиорынке. Спасибо, что все снимаешь и рассказываешь!.👍😍

Yes I did watch the 'bonus" footage, but I have never done any home brewing. In Ice Fishing, the "hand drills" are called hand augers. I've never done ice fishing either but there are similar ones when making fence post holes. Another Great Video. Novak Djokavich is still in the Aust Open and I think he will win the tournament this year since Danill Medvedev, Rafa Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz are not in the tourny.

Used spare parts are mostly for masters who repair other ppl things. If your washing machine broke after it's warranty period it is common to call a master, who will repair it for 1/10 of original cost, and it will work just like before for several more years.

its total legacy of USSR higher education system when lot of engineers have studied all kinds of tech in colledges and and universities. But electronics was not awailable to people, so they started to make it at home. My father was one of them, he teached me soldering and stuff.

Мой отец собрал "Иришу", например. Просто поиграться дома. Да, это было на пределе его способностей и возможностей, но он это сделал. О взаимосвязи "electronics was not awailable to people" и "they started to make it at home" телл олл оф ас, совьет пипл, плиз. Поясню, если вдруг чо, тут либо электроника доступна и кажный может делать что-то эт хоум, либо недоступна и шиш что эт хоум у кого получится. Про владение оригинальными персональными компьютерами в этом случае можно вообще забыть. А они были. Значит - чота в изначальном утверждении полная чушь.

we have construction/DIY markets, huge ones... But I prefer to buy in more civilized malls built by European companies, Leroy Merlin and OBI. I drive to Leroy Merlin (to four of them in different districts of Moscow) almost every week, because I like to do small home improvements.

@@TravellingwithRussell yes it is .... if youre in 50Hz countries .... set to 50Hz.... when in 60Hz countries set to 60Hz. Only Japan use both frequencies in 1 country at 100V. Usually, if the country is 110V-170V it goes with 60Hz... while 220-250V are usually 50Hz But this is not always the case. Some Carribean places run 110-130V with 50Hz and for 220V 60Hz South Korea and Phillippines Just info when you travel the world.

If we call the same thing "apartment building" as Russell does in this video at 1:02 then yes, most people in Moscow live in 9+ floors apartment buildings. Newer ones have more floors, usually 16+, older ones between 9 and 16 mostly.

Я был на этом месте в первый день работы этого рынка и продал там две старые компьютерные клавиатуры от компьютера ДВК по 2000 тогдашних рублей! Если не ошибаюсь, это был 1994й год, этот рынок переместился от метро Тушино в чистое поле. Там неподалеку стояло несколько новых панельных домов. В поле шла обычная грунтовая дорога, вдоль которой торговцы расставили свои палатки. Был теплый день, выходной, через пару часов работы рынка на дороге люди наколотили ногами страшную пыль. Многие продавали товары с земли и смахивали с них пыль веником или легкой щеточкой. Странные времена, дикие, но интересные. Дух 90х почти выветрился, те кто пишут про 90е не видели, что там реально творилось тогда. В 2000е - куча краденых телефонов и пиратских кассет и дисков. Ну и вишенка на торте: у моего брата от этого рынка в 2010 году угнали машину. Ее он нашелбез помощи ментов, самостоятельно, неподалеку, через 3 дня))). Видимо тренировались вскрывать сигнализации и тестировали новую электронную приблуду)))

Честно скажу, хоть были интересы в железках, но с детства и до окончания интереса к рынкам, никогда не ездил на Митьку, ограничивался Царицыно (оттуда моя видяха на 486 VLB, циррус на 2 метра, модель не помню); совком - там я запродал свой 486 (на самом деле пень овердрайв 90 на сокет 3) и купил Дурик - Spitfire; и горбой, где я купил свой бартон 2500@3200. На этом моё общение с такими рынками закончилось. Не сильно жалею, на самом деле.

Да,были годы... :)Затаривался там как раз как только его открыли.С Курского вокзала на электричке доезжал и немного пешком.Потом сделали платный вход но мы люди умные,нашли лазейки и пролазили через них в заборе или через некоторые торговые места. :) Выходили как обычно через центральные ворота в те годы.

Я свою тащу в отдел микроконтроллеров и так же как и она со своими блузками (которые на мой взгляд ничем не отличаются от 100500 уже имеющихся), начинаю допытываться до неё, что мне лучше купить ESP32 или ESP8266... Это потом отличный повод впоследствии в "тряпичном" магазине, на упрёк, что дескать мне на неё наплевать - напомнить ей, что ей было наплевать на меня при "сложном" выборе микроконтроллера (которые впрочем давно уже были мной куплены на алике)... 😂😂😂

Во-первых, там есть пункты выдачи интернет-магазинов, +можно руками пощупать все). Там тарятся запчастями палатки, которые чинят вам телефоны. Всюду жизнь. Во-вторых, кто не рыбак, тот не поймет, но там такие нычки есть с детальем и б/у оснасткой и инструментом - закачаешься. Но для домашних телезрителей и теток - это просто свалка и хлам, спорить не буду.

That place is heaven on earth. USA has noting like that just Amazon garbage only online which to me is worthless. We had some computers stores that were OK years ago but now closed because Americans think shopping from their phone is the way to go so brick and motor stores went out of business. America and it’s people are in steep decline with no way to reverse out of it. They went woke and now going broke.

This is not a typical shopping mall in Russia. We called - bazaar. In such places, they are usually traded by individual entrepreneurs who import goods into Russia under gray schemes, they pay cheap rent for trade places. Often you can be cheated there if you don't know anything about electronics. A typical electronics store in a shopping mall is a large federal chain which operates officially, for example, DNS, MVideo
