A compilation of some of my favourite cuts of animation from Russian animators and studios.
Click show more for the list of sources/animators and more info.
The song is "Mussorgsky: The Old Castle (from Pictures at an Exhibition)" performed by Fred Hersch from the album Red Square Blue: Jazz Impressions of Russian Composers.
An important note: Information about who animated these cuts could be wrong. If I or a website have guessed who the animator is there is a (?) next to the animator’s name. If you see that I've credited the wrong animator, please tell me in the comments and I'll correct it.
If I know the animator their name is in (round brackets) next to the source.
The Russian name is given first, then the English translation in [square brackets].

The list of the where each clip is from, and the name of the song used, are in the description. Also, you can press "." and "," to go through the animations frame by frame.

Petrov is amazing.Animation in general is an underrated artform or sometimes not even recognized as an art.I understand why some people don't recognize classic "cartoon" type animation we see in anime as art (i disagree tho),but what Petrov does is truly amazing.Any one of those frames could be a painting let alone making a animation whit several houndred paintings. Lol just thinking about some shit that gets sold for thousands of dollars that looks like it was hand painted by a 8 year old triggers me

Thank you, it's incredibly moving and inspiring montage, I'm pretty ashamed that I never watched the entire Petrov's filmography. There are more visually engaging Soviet animated films, but I agree with what you did, a lot of it is very "in context", or doesn't have this timeless quality (instead having its own quality that I love, for sure).

Hobbes Sakuga Amazing video Petrov's work is outstanding, I recommend you (if you still haven't) to watch Piotr Dumala's "Crime and Punishment", amazing work too.
