As far as the tea goes, Russians really like tea in general, and there is a reason for that much sugar. When it's really cold/wet, a cup of really strong black tea with a LOT of sugar is a really good pick-me-up.

The hard candy is barberry-flavored. Very popular in Russia. The barberries themselves are also super popular in Middle East, too, especially in Iran. They make rice pilaf with them (zereshk polo).

The cherry drink is called kompote. It's made by boiling fruit in water, then cooling it down. It's served cold.

False, its called kompot and its main thing is being put into jars after boiling it. Essentially canned fruit. Delicious.

The Podravka paté made in Croatia is good stuff and their made in USA brand Argeta is really good and comes in really sturdy cans.

@@RationNerd I saw that and just wanted to put the name of an available shelf stable brand that I've found at my local ethnic store and online out there if anyone was wanting to try something that's readily available. Or if they are interested in adding some to their own homemade MREs like I have.

The Shturm MREs are not the official military ones, from what I've read on some stores. Size-wise, these are more like the US MREs, being a 1-meal MRE. Compared to the standard Russian MREs, which have 3 meals (those big-a$$ boxes). So I can kinda compare them to the "civilan MREs" we can buy here in the US. From the ones I've tried, they are also quite inconsistent as far as taste goes... (nothing is worse than the Postal Rations though...) The cold drink says "berry mix" flavor.

I am just giving what information I have from a very limited source. It is hard to say one way or the other. That is how it was marketed to me, it came from MRE Mountain and was advertised as a Russian Special Forces Ration. I am not 100% sure that they were correct or telling the truth.

From what i understand (though i'm just guessing from the description in Russin), it's not a special forces ration, it's just a ration for combat units.

If I am remembering correctly, this one was about $65 before shipping. I ordered these from MRE Mountain. Buyer beware though, this is one of the only orders I placed with MRE Mountain that made it into the country unmolested by customs dirty paws! It can be a really expensive hobby. For years I was a watcher. Now I am just dumb enough to spend the money. So I thought I would share the experience!

@@morpheusgreene2704 Usually, you would only find US MRE's at a surplus store. I do not know for certain, but all of the surplus stores I have been to never have any foreign rations. You could try my buddy on EBAY. His prices are reasonable and the rations are inside the USA so no customs to worry about.

Uummm....just wondering how you came to the conclusion that this is a Special Forces ration? It's not, it's an emergency ration they give units that are helping with clean-up/dig out after a severe storm or blizzard. Sturm means storm in Russian!!

Russian Infantry assault units are called "Sturm" units. In Ukraine right now they have Sturm V and Sturm Z dying en-masse to capture an extra farm field or street. Most of those units are conscripts though.

Shturm is the Russian word for storm, however it is contextual. To storm (siege) the battlefield is the Russian context. It was advertised by the seller as a special forces ration.

@@RationNerd I lived and worked in Mongolia for 10 years and I agree that Russian pate is da bomb. Shame they can't put Russian ice cream in their ration packs LOL. Puts most of the North American brands to total shame. Much higher cream content and flavour. My fav was the vanilla, which I never liked in Canada.

You see, it is really hard to accurately explain anything when you put little effort into the actual explanation. Words! Words help to explain things that other people cannot be there to experience for themselves. Thus the long and rambling videos. I like to talk to my viewers. My subscribers are not just the teeming masses of KZfaq droolers. Sifting through short videos of cats or chicks in bathing suits.
