I think there is barely a single apartment block in Russia without stores downstairs. In our building we also have 2 beauty salons, a liquor store, a gym and also a phone repair place.

​​I have a 1000 small items shop(it definitely has more than 1000 items - not food, literally anything you might need), a pets shop, a pharmacy, a sweets shop, clothes shop, hairdresser, photo studio and even car parts shop. A store? Russians will complain if they have just one store -lack of choice) typically there are several of different chains . I have three in my neighborhood within 5-7 minutes .

I live in an average city - it's more than 500 thousand inhabitants (Russia). And yes, we have a lot of supermarkets around and shops within walking distance. In a 5 - 15 minute walk from my house there are 3 hypermarkets, 4 hypermarkets within walking distance of less and 2 indoor markets. And a bunch of small and medium-sized shops for various purposes along the way, from furniture to spare parts and everything for the garden. The whole problem in the USA is corporations that have taken over all your markets and flooded them with a small variety of not very high-quality food. There are many medium and small enterprises in Russia in addition to large agro-industries in each region.

Oh yeah, they are quite popular, even my mom loves it.

In Russia it is the same. Small supermarkets are more expensive, but not by that much, about 10-15% as from my experience. And products there are basically the same you can find in big ones. Interestingly, there are Monster energy drinks in my local mini market (not a chain), which I can’t find anywhere else since sanctions were imposed. And of course alcohol is sold everywhere :)

Much better quality of food in Russia than the US, and I am so glad people r becoming aware of this. It needs to change, we Americans are being fed poison.

The bread is cheap because the government have a specific list of "socially important" food items that must be kept to a minimum price.

Everything in Russia is organic! GMOs are prohibited in Russia! What you consider organic in the USA is basically not organic! This is a publicity stunt.

I really wish this store was better taken care of by the owner. When we were in Ufa back in Summertime, in the nest building from our cousin's place there was an amazing Fasol store. I think it's all down to the franchise owner and how much they want to put into the store time, and money wise.
