Yeah, Hollywood actors' accents suck when they speak Russian! It's a difficult foreign language to pronounce for native English speakers, but they oftentimes butcher the pronunciation and the cadence of Russian speech.

C'mon have you seen Russian movies about WW2? Atleast they can hire proper voice actors who can really speak german for example. And Hollywood has millions of dollars budget and can't find someone who speaks properly russian? Pathetic.

Maybe they just don't want to hire Russians to play in their movies?
@malbenita3 жыл бұрын
@@madnomad3861 It’s natural because we had actual war with Germany. War that lasted for four years and we really keep memories and stories from that times. War is hell on Earth. And about actors... usually people at Soviet Union (let’s not call us all Russians) learnt German to be a good spy’s. Many of actors at first movies about WW2 was real veterans. So that’s why these movies so accurate: memories were still alive. My friend live at USA now and I heard, that people here not really like St. George Ribbons (black and orange stripes). But background of that symbol is war times: government gave medals to every family whose member fought and ribbon were part of it. So ribbon is symbol of great respect to every single one who fought back for our country. I really disappointed that 9th of May became that “yeah, look at our tanks!” thing and some not very smart people use that day of sorrow and gratitude to say “woooo, we strong!”. 9th of May at Russia is like mix of Thanksgiving Day and 11th of September. Kids learn about great tragedy of war since first grade or even earlier. How people die, how mothers bury their kids, how 14 years old girls work as nurses, how people ran from bombs, how soldiers destroyed tanks by dying under them with grenade. Sorry, I just needed to pull it out of my chest. We say “No one forgotten, nothing forgotten” on that day.

Honestly most russians don't speak english like this. It's a stereotype. It's an accent of lazy people but in schools we learn british classic english. And mostly we speak something classic with british features. Like: Letta (letter) paue (power). We learn normal pronunciation in schools.

@@shroomey6686 You meant bo’o’wo’ah? Sure I like wo’ah!
Nah, not really. Unless you go to the linguistic university (where still you have strong russian accent) or you're a part of some professinal english course your accent probably would be (if we stretch it enough) american like wit ha mix of british words at best. At worst you sound completly russian, slow and stumble on many words and mix up pronounces (like many times she will become he and vice versa). I personally learned received pronounciation at university, but my accent is almost perfect american because of how many american media (aka youtube videos) I consume. Besides even teachers themselfs at school don't have that great of a pronounciation and usually kids don't consume enough english content or speak with natives to pick up on accent. Note: at my school, which was gymnasium, we learned both british and american vocabluary. Btw the "classic english" you refer to is a received pronounciation that kids nowadays only learn in university, so you're wrong in here.

Honestly, the fairest and most correct depiction of Russians in the western movies was probably in the pre-Dalton James Bond ones. Russian girls were pretty, sly and actually looked and acted like any other girls in the world. I also like the scene featuring Bruce Willis and that crazy Russian. Not that it was a correct depiction of Russian people, but it was a terribly correct depiction of Russian ways of doing things and solving problems. I still wait for a movie where Russians/Soviet people will be depicted as self-sacrificing, brave, smart, deep-thinking, eccentric, kind-hearted people.

American here and I love Russia. I was told very little about Russia in school and what I was taught was not good things. I grew up and leaned about Russia and Russian people on my own. Looks like to me that America has been trying to make Russia look bad for a long time. I really believe it's because the higher up Americans that don't want anyone else to fill that super power slot and would rather make enemy's with a great nation that could be incredible ally. Some times I hate being associated with my country but no one can choose where they are born. They can only try to make a difference. Even if it's a small one.
