I assume they have a shelf off in the back somewhere, and they keep the bolts on the holes they came from (unless the bolts have become multiple pieces, or they labeled them in bags)

We have containers with shelving and just areas in the workshop where we a stack parts. As for how we reassemble, I (Steve) have been doing this for over 25 years and putting cars back together is second nature :). We also just watch the vids backwards if we forget as has been said :)

@Mark-Aussie1529 yeah a lot of work, I would hate to be footing the bill, it would have to be 100 pounds an hour plus materials. Be interesting to see how much they get from youtube which is the main purpose of some of these projects plus it gets their name out there which equals more business. Glad we don't have that level of rust here in Oz.

Yes but they are using butt joints and not overlap joints which can trap moisture and cause more rusting. Truly talented at reproducing the parts section by section. A premium seam sealer from 3M can go a long way at preserving seams, something BMW either did not think about or they used a very cheap sealant.

@Aleks_Z
@Aleks_Z 6 ай бұрын
Okay, I have a question. The work itself is done beautifully, nice welds, nice recreation of rusted parts, but wouldn't it be easier to chemically treat/sand balstthe whole car car and then do the repairs? Maybe not whole car, just the lower portion for example. There are probably spots next to repaired ones where rust is still present. Also on Datsun, wouldn't it be easier to sandblast car, maybe even partially? Quicker, cleaner, easier, better overview...
@mikewilson631
@mikewilson631 6 ай бұрын
I've been curious about this as well. It's severely rusty from at least the waist down and it seems to me that clearing all of that off, neutralising, then priming, would be a sensible first step. Only two reasons I can think of for not doing it: cost (it is Yorkshire Car Restorations...) or the worry that major parts will either fall off or simply disappear in the process.
@colinborrows5947
@colinborrows5947 5 ай бұрын
In their earlier video, think it was the live video, they explained why they don’t dip, was to do with chemicals getting in the seams and destroying panel glues and seals, and unable to clean it out and replace, I think. Check the video.
@mikewilson631
@mikewilson631 5 ай бұрын
@@colinborrows5947 Just done that. I'm afraid it shows a very poor grasp of what goes on in the proper dipping process. If the dipping solution can get behind the seams, it is likely that water has already done so. If that is correct, all they are doing at present is sealing in rust. I also don't think seams inside boxes are sealed. I don't even see how it could be done.
