Steel chips are in my opinion one of the coolest effects on armor models. If you wanna paint nice looking chips, you have to try your best to keep them small and in scale. So small that I have to use photos instead of my usual 360 shots. This technique is very time consuming and can take dozens of hours. So sit back, relax and suffer with me.

As far as the drops being different in size, that happens when you let the drop touch a surface before it's finished coming out. Always let drops DROP from the nozzle to the pallette. Another great video, I hope you're feeling better.

Hi Martin, and thank you for the great videos. I know you have to speed up the work you do on the models, but can you post a minute or two of you applying some of these chips and rust and the cleaning at normal speed? It will give us an idea of how long it really takes.

The effect is especially effective on the protruding bits. Really cool. I didn't see how this plain mono-chromatic model could be interesting, but it's definitely getting there.

concerning the oil brushed from AMMO comment, imo many of the newer products of AMMO and AK are a little pointless and dare I say cash grabs. Also damn you for inspiring me to spend more money on armor models to try those techniques out :P

Haha glad to hear that :) I'd say these new products are worth buying if you don't have a huge stash of regular or modelling oil paints in tubes. I can clearly see their benefits but I probably wouldn't replace regular oils with them. However I really wanted to give them a try and the time-saving benefits are definitely real. Exactly what I need if I have about an hour to paint and don't wanna waste time preparing my oils and cleaning the palette afterwards.

Also if you ever use their washes or other enamel weathering products, I would love to hear an opinion because mine as well as others I hear are mixed

@@CetoFreakingKaiba Yup I felt the same as you, but I really like them. Still gotta keep my Wilder oil paints though. I've already used their wash for German Yellow on this tank and liked it. Both AK and Ammo have high quality products but just like with everything else, an occasional mishap can happen. I for example bought one of their enamel Heavy Mud products when those came out and it was faulty since I opened the bottle - the mud slurry wouldn't dry up.

Q: Seeing as you paint parts of your model in sub-assemblies - what type of glue do you use to attach tools, road wheels etc to your painted model? Super glue or just Extra Thin? Great stuff as always! You have a great combo of modelling skill and video production skills. And a decent sense of humour on top of that!

Thanks!! I usually paint details like tools already attached to the model. For the running gear, regular modelling glue or superglue - depends on my mood or rather on how precisely the running gear "snaps" together. Some roadwheels have great tight fit - in that case I just dry-fit them and leave them like that

Once again I am presented with a great video. I am enjoying the techniques and format of the build, along with the presentation. However I am not a believer in the rusty chipping on AFV's unless they have been left out in the open for a long time, burnt or taken a few rounds. Not including sheet metal parts. I base my opinion as a former tank crewman and having recovered and restored those rusty pieces of junk that should have been burnt after the war! haha...But artistic licence and special effects do look appealing to the eye . Now I have to wait another week for the next installment.

Come to think of, how could it look if that plate that covers the gun mount was entirely rusty... Guess it would look even more abandoned. Although reference photos doesn't show it that way, artistic license allows to make such things... like adding some anti-infantry tesla coils XD

Oilbrushers - thicker consistency, short brush, mostly for dot filters. Streakingbrushers - thin consistency, long/skinny brush, more for, well, adding subtle streaks. New or inexperienced modelers might find them useful or convenient but I'll stick with oils (yeah, I'm old 😉).

It looks great again, but now I come up with a question: for example for your french tank, you used some bolts from tin foil if I remember right, and one time you showed a stencil board something with circles. I want to buy something like this for my own and so I need to know how small the tinyest circles are and for what I need to search in the internet. Tanks!

Well the one I used on this model is Punch&Die tool and it can cut circles from 0,5mm to 2mm, either from plastic or metal foil (copper, aluminium). The tin rivets I made for the French tank were punched out using the opposite end of a 0,3mm drill bit simply because the Punch&Die can't make things smaller than 0,5mm.

Cool! Another video! Get better soon! Paint mix not being the same everytime, that is okay especially for rusts and distressed looks. They are never the same in reality so they don't have to be scientific ratio to look good.

Exactly! And if you "jump around" your model with those different paint mixtures, the result will look pretty awesome. Mostly subtle and hardly noticeable, but awesome

Night Shift I agree. Rain doesn't always fall straight down either. Also, have you tried using a wet palette before? I don't know if you use one or not, but they keep the paint longer than a regular palette so you can paint next day with the same paint so you don't need to write down your paint mixture if it is for the armour colour or any colour really. Saving paint for later is pretty cool. You can even make your own. I have seen videos of it and I use a one I made myself.

@@ahzekahriman5840 Yup I use wet palette when I'm painting tarps or stowage with acrylic paints. But these occasions are so rare that I wasn't able to show that on this channel yet. It technically makes sense to use it for chipping... but I've gotten so comfortable with the approach demonstrated in this video that I don't feel like changing the routine :)

I'm trying to imagine the first light chipping is flicked on, and before it is dry, you flick a dry rust particle onto the area, where it only sticks where the wet first chips are, and you blow off the rest. Naturally the edges need more rust, so they get hand done in the first step, but because they are larger, the paint will stay wet while you complete the lighter first layer of a defined area flicking. Make some kind of sense? I'll try this on something useless first. Like my roommates forehead.
