It really is baffling to see people hate Daisy _just_ because she was a cop, as if people can't end up on the wrong path in life, let alone choose to be better after recognizing that. The whole "once a pig always a pig" mentality some fans have towards her is really annoying and, frankly, immature. Even then, Daisy wasn't _that_ kind of cop. She was a section 31 officer. The people and "things" she killed were probably better off dead. She admits to accidentally killing an innocent person ONCE, which is a tragedy but she clearly felt guilt over it. People don't hate Trevor because he accidentally killed a non-vampire once. I think TMA tastefully criticized corrupt police with Daisy's character while avoiding making her a completely unforgivable one at the same time. She was an officer, and enjoyed hurting people, but she was also a section 31 so she only really hurt cultists and monsters, presumably. And the enjoyment came from being marked by The Hunt. If anything, the flawed characters in TMA are a good reminder that you can forgive while not forgetting. Or, rather, you can not forgive an action while forgiving the person.

The flesh statement before gave him the inspiration, but it's also easier to think of an actual part of your body as an anchor. Jon sees the pros and cons of a situation, but determines that “possible self-sacrifice” isn’t important because he has very little self-worth and the people at the archives usually beat him up any time he tries his hardest. Oh, great. They're redeeming Daisy. To murder her in the next couple of episodes, no doubt. And I WILL cry. Well played. Well. Played. Why do I imagine the tape recorders scratching at the coffin's lid and howling like sad puppies bc their master left them? Or maybe there's nothing supernatural about their appearance. Melanie and Basira just said screw it and started bringing tape recorders to the scene instead of candles and flowers to honour the memory of Jon, The Stupid Idiot. Or they were trying to make a summoning ritual. Just two dozen tape recorders, arranged neatly around a lonely rib. Martin walks in on them and is...very unsettled by the scene, to say the least. Speaking of, the Archive Boyfriends are really going places, huh. They were like 95% of each other's impulse control, which means that Martin is now just a little bit sassier and doesn't know what's good for him, while Jon is completely unhinged and will die within 2 days if Martin doesn't do anything about it stat.

The Buried i'm not claustrophobic myself, but even I'm unnerved by cramped spaces. I do know a guy who LOVES cramped spaces though. Sleeps under a couple of heavy blankets to "emulate the feeling of a womb". We get along pretty good. Anyway... the Buried is pretty close to the End. Most religions, especially Abrahamic ones, specify the dead need to be buried. Though I believe where the End and the Buried split apart in the spectrum is for the fact that the latter prefers it's victims alive and stuck for eternity. It feeds on helplessness. That much is obvious. What isn't immediately obvious is the fact that the Buried is a Labyrinth. Like Tartarus. It's a prison. It is the weight of your every regret. Every embarrassment. Every failure. The weight of the World on your shoulders, except this World is one of your making. And it is no paradise. like some abstract guilt-tottin' Atlas wannabe.

I was having difficulty breathing *listening* to them, the little squeaks as they try to gasp for breath, I actually had to take my blanket off it all felt too *real*. And Daisy's fear felt genuine. Like he’s literally trying as hard as possible to hold on to it, more so than the rest of them seem to. Daisy included. Still, I really hope she’ll back him up, the man needs someone on his side 😭 (Also did she always have a little bit of an accent? Scottish or Irish maybe? I never noticed it)

I wonder if the reason they chose The Buried for being the fear Daisy would be trapped in was because while she was there the realisation of how terrible of a person shes been and the magnitude of her actions (whether influenced by The Hunt or not) hits her and so guilt begins to weigh down on her to the point it would feel like shes being crushed (except in this case she actually is at times).

[INT. MAGNUS INSTITUTE, ARCHIVES, COFFIN ROOM] [TAPE CLICKS ON.] [THE ARCHIVIST SIGHS.] ARCHIVIST (under his breath) Alright. [HE HITS PLAY ON A DIFFERENT TAPE.] DAISY (ON TAPE) […] Was a coffin. An old, wooden coffin. Rough, unvarnished. I could see splinters where the nails had been hammered in badly. Wrapped all around it was a thick metal chain ending in a heavy padlock. That weird moaning was coming from inside it. It was the only sound that cut through pounding rain. [THE ARCHIVIST CLICKS DAISY’S TAPE OFF, AND EJECTS IT FROM THE PLAYER. WE HEAR HIM PUT A FRESH TAPE INTO WHAT MUST BE A PLAYER/RECORDER. HE CLICKS IT ON. HE TAKES A LONG, SHAKY BREATH, STEELING HIMSELF FOR WHATEVER IS TO COME.] ARCHIVIST Hello, Melanie. I.. know I said we’d wait until Basira was back, b, but I, I don’t… (heavy sigh) I-I’m sorry. I, I-I know she won’t - (sigh) She’d want to do it a different way. But I know what I’m doing; this time I do. I, I hope. I have her voice. I think that should be enough to find her, and, and I’m leaving my - (can’t say it) I’ll leave it with the tape. I should be able to find my back to it. I think. (pause) Wish me luck. …Although, I suppose if you’re hearing this, then I.. I didn’t have any. I don’t know. I, I’m - (slight pause) I’m scared? (dry laugh) When does the fear go away? (pause) A-Anyway, I’m sorry. You too, Basira, if you’re hearing this. (pause) I know you’d - stop me. You’d be right to, but - but if this goes wrong, all you lose is - (abrupt) I’m not risking anyone else. And I know - (pause) I-I think. I can get her out. [HE CLICKS THE TAPE OFF.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) Right. You’re coming with me. [HE SIGHS.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) Let’s do this one properly. [WE HEAR A STATIC BEGIN TO RISE; IT’S FROM THE COFFIN.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) No need for that. I’m willing. [THE STATIC FADES AWAY AS IMMEDIATELY AS IT CAME.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) Right. [HE LIFTS THE PADLOCK, AND THE CHAIN RATTLES AS HE PULLS IT OFF AND THEY FALL TO THE FLOOR. THEN WE HEAR THE OMINOUS RATTLING CREAK AS HE PULLS OPEN THE LID OF THE COFFIN.] [HE CLICKS ON A TORCH.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) (slightly shaky) Stone steps. Roughly hewn. (slight pause) They, uh… They keep going. (brave face) Well. No point in waiting. [WE CAN HEAR HIS BREATH SHAKE SLIGHTLY AS HE STEPS INTO THE ECHOING COFFIN. THE LID CLOSES ABOVE HIM ALMOST IMMEDIATELY WITH A HOLLOW THUMP.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) Christ. [HE TAKES A DEEP, SHAKY BREATH, AS WELL AS A FEW STEPS.] [TAPE CLICKS OFF.] [INT. WE HEAR HIS CLOTHES RUSTLE AS HE MOVES.] ARCHIVIST I’m not sure how long it’s been. The steps ended, eventually. There’s passages, but - it’s very, uh… It’s close. I’m having some trouble, but. I’m going the right way. I know it. I just - I-I just need to keep moving. When I stop, it - [HE GRUNTS, TAKES ANOTHER STEP.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) (even more strained) It starts to - p-press on me. [THE RUSTLING NOISES GET LOUDER FOR A SECOND.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) Barely that. But I’m - I’m definitely getting closer. (strained) If I can just - [THE RUSTLING INCREASES IN VOLUME AND INTENSITY AS THE ARCHIVIST MAKES A FEW SOUNDS OF EXERTION. FINALLY, HE MAKES IT THROUGH WHATEVER TIGHT SPACE HAD BEEN HOLDING HIM BACK, AND HE LETS OUT A NOISE OF RELIEF.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) My torch is broken. I didn’t even drop it. It - It got caught against the wall, and - [MORE RUSTLING.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) Crushed. God, I - (inhale) I don’t even know how long I’ve been here. [TAPE CLICKS OFF.] [TAPE CLICKS ON.] [THE ARCHIVIST’S VOICE IS MUCH CLOSER AND DEFINITELY RASPIER.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) I - heard someone. He was begging off of me to save him. Said he couldn’t breathe. (slight pause, gasp) I can barely breathe. I couldn’t find him. But I am - (strained) not here for him. I don’t know him. I can’t - I can’t see anything here. For all this place closes around me, I-I feel a drift. Like nothing can get through the dirt and the muck and - [HE LOSES HIMSELF TO THE MOVING FOR A SECOND.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) I still have Daisy’s tape. And I still think I’m going the right way. When I move at all. [THE RUSTLING GETS LOUDER AND THE MOTION MORE JERKY.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) Feels like every inch costs me another scrape, o-or bruise. (inhale, his voice sounds more normal) I’d hoped I was beyond that, but apparently not. And - [HE LETS OUT A VERY PAINED SOUND.] ARCHIVIST (CONT’D) The air is heavy. Soil and dust. I am - very thirsty. But I know I won’t die of it. (moving again) I won’t die of anything down here. Not ever. Not if I - can’t find my way out. When I first came down, I could feel it, the - the part of myself I left outside, but - (inhale) But it’s been getting fainter and now… I’ll try not to think about it. Don’t - Don’t want to stretch my mind, to try and see, in case it’s not there at all. I can’t afford to think about it. Not now. [TAPE CLICKS OFF.]

This episode is so hard to listen to. For more than one reason. For one: I think I have a problem with crowded places and closed spaces (I don't know if it gets to the point of claustrophobia, but it surely is a huge anxiety point for me), so visualizing those two being crushed between long stretches of dirt while they have to make an active effort to speak is terrifying. Thinking Daisy has been alive and experiencing it for over eight months is terrifying. But also: how vulnerable Daisy is being. For the first time. And with Jon, whom she hated and almost killed more than once before. It's the first time in quite some time someone is not being actively hostile towards Jon, is being vulnerable and honest, and it's so heartbreaking to listen to Daisy confess she doesn't want to be a sadistic hunter anymore, but she doesn't want to feel like a pathetic prey either. She sounds so broken and tired. I just wanna cuddle her forever and let her pour out all her suffering until it empties out and she can build herself back up again. This episode of Daisy and Jon bonding inside the buried is probably one of the most unexpectedly candid episodes I've heard during these 4 seasons and listening it now for the second time is just as powerful as it was the first time I listened to it back in 2019.

I love what you've written about this, it's such a powerful episode. Poor Daisy's vulnerability, and the fact that she's probably the last person we'd expect to finally give Jon a non-confrontational conversation, but here we are. And Jon's Good Boi willingness to try to help people even in the face of their denial of his humanity is so bittersweet, I only hope they stop treating him like he's less human than any of them (especially since Daisy is a fricking avatar of the Hunt so she can't complain about other people being inhuman...)

She always came off as rude and unpleasant, and while her connection to Basira was always sweet in a way, it was heavily outweighed to me by all her wrongdoings, up to and including trying to kill Jon. but this episode is the first time i legit started to care about her. Hearing her while away from the Hunt's influence really puts the character in a new light for me. Can't wait to see her surely fix her issues and live a happy and healthy life after this. :')

Damn. Daisy and Jon out here playing terraria XD Anyway. I have a feeling that what lead Jon back the way he came where the tape recorders. And it got me thinking, I might do some light reaserch into Analog now. And rewatch the episode '"Binary" again. That mini nerd out about analog at the beginning might actually be relevant to Jon's connection to tape recorders. Outside spooky eye power bullshit.

Yeah, it was something about Magnetic tapes? And Annologe not exactly being one thing like Digital? Idk I'm not very smart.... but I'll keep this at the back of my mind.

I was thinking as I listened to the beginning of this and considering someone touched by the vast was able to end the whole ritual by the Buried Michael Crew could have been useful here, ironically. Not that I necessarily think Daisy was wrong to kill him. He seemed pretty content to kill to feed his patron.

This episode was so intimate and so... cathartic, in a way. Usually I don't really pick favourites but honestly, if I had a list of favourite episodes this one would be very high up on the list. Yeah. I think it's one of my favourites now

I was so confussed when the voices started that the mental image was that they were in the street xD lifting a trap door or something heavy of metal and my brain had to reboot. Glad that they make it back! And Daisy is not Unhinged! Almost! This deserves a muffin. Note: THE TAPE RECORDERS XD The Eye was so fucking concerned that started poping up recorders with voices to make noice? 😅 Is like- "HELP. MY ARCHIVIST IS BEING STUPID AGAIN"
