Hi RuthAnn! I have been binge watching your channel on my tv. I just logged in on my phone and subscribed to your wonderful channel! I thoroughly enjoy watching everything you put up on here. You are such an inspiration to me. I’d love to have the ethics and values you’re bringing to this world through your hard work and teachings. Please never stop. Your family is beautiful and I love how you’ve taught them that hard work produces such beneficial results. My boys are 24, 21, and 11. I feel like I’ve failed my kids because I raised them in this modern world and didn’t prepare them for the REAL world. May God forgive me for my ignorance and complacency. But I want to start to do better by all of them and I’ve been trying to follow along with you and other homesteaders to learn skills for myself and my family. Moral of the story I am just very inspired by you and how you’re a keeper of the old ways of our precious ancestors. My paternal grandmother was from an old order Mennonite background. I learned a lot as a child from her. I see her ways in so much of your channel. It reconnects me to my childhood and how I worked and helped her. Sadly it didn’t translate into my parents home and skipped to present day. I want to learn to make cheeses and breads and to refresh my memories of gardening with grandma. I remember so much as I watch your channel. It’s like a light comes on and I’m back there beside her learning from and helping her again. Those were my most treasured memories on this earth the ones with her. She was my best friend and my mentor and my rock as a child. Sorry to ramble you just take me back. Anyway, God Bless you and your precious family and I am praying for your family and homestead to be protected and for you all to flourish in Jesus name AMEN! I am Leslie McDonald and I am down in Florence Alabama. My love to you and yours! ❤️🙏🏼

Great vid 😊 I love hand milking too even though I have a machine, the cows and I have a better bond. I appreciate the work going into the vege patch. I don't have pigs any more. 😂😂 Made me laugh, split into 2 like that too. At the time I had about 200 chooks of various special heritage breeds, having their own pens but spread out around the top 6 or 7 acres of the farm. We have a LOT of sheds! Small ( 10'x15') to HUGE and some other large specific coops. Most would be let out every day, the others every alternate day. After we had some ongoing fox trouble, some of the chooks went to the pigs for protection! They wouldn't leave and became great friends, forming an amazing symbiotic relationship together. The chooks bred profusely with the pigs and hatched many chicks that used to use the pigs, including the big boars as foot warmers on cold winter and frosty mornings!! 😂😂 It was an amazing sight! It certainly was bewildering and mesmerising to most of our visitors. I only regret not taking pictures or video of them during those few years. I got rid of all of the pigs except for 2 at that time. Having nearly 40 pigs was a LOT of work and prep and expense, especially when still having to run the rest of the farm. Numerous other poultry, game, meat chickens, milk goats, sheep, beef cattle, milk cows, children, home schooling, not including anything to do with the house or cooking or butchering or gardens or pets or native animal rescue etc ALL kept me very busy. So when the pigs went, it freed up some time that I badly needed. Things are a LOT simpler now. A dozen chooks, a few ducks, a flock of geese, a dozen sheep a few cats, some fantastic work dogs (I do work for some neighbours, bartering my time for hay, oats and wheat) and just a few cows. Two of which are Fresian/Holstein (the black and white typical milk cow) and a Holstein X Jersey. I subbed a few days ago and have been enjoying your vids. God bless you and all your family in all your endeavours, from Down Under here in Australia 😊😊😊

We also had horses and ponies and many native and aviary type birds. David the donkey will founder if he gets overweight too much. It was wonderful that your lovely friends could visit from so far. Were they from a farm too or from town? I've enjoyed some of your cooking vids, still have many to watch ..... We've had a few good milk cows, our favourite, the best in every way was a beautiful golden Jersey, we let her retire gracefully when she injured her hip with her last calf, so she was kept as a grasseater only for her retirement. In Australia, there are no cow barns for them to be kept in unless injured etc. All dairy cows are on full pasture all the time, only brought in to the dairy or yards for milking or handling etc. Have a wonderful day 😊

So interesting! I live in the suburbs, but I spent time with my grandparents and an aunt and uncle on their farms when I was a young kid. I don't think I'm cut out for all out homesteading, but I am growing some vegetables this year and I love to cook from scratch and general homemaking when I'm not working.

Just found your utube. You give such great detail. Being older and living in the Los Angeles environs, I'm living vicariously. Do have a good size garden in the front and back yard, growing vertically and get quite a bit of produce year round. Had chickens when the kids were young. Good memories. Love seeing you pray together.

At first, I felt like it was such a waste giving the skimmed milk to the pigs (we got American Guinea hogs last July), but they love it and it will benefit us eventually. Before, I'd clabber some for us and give the extra to the chickens. I admire all that you do and we are trying to do the same... We moved out of the city Sept. 2021 and got our 1st milking cow the end of that month. Love hearing the questions, sometimes I wonder if the cow had 4 compartments, or just 1 big one!

Growing up in Wisconsin, and helping out on a friend’s dairy farm in the early 70’s, I was shocked to my very core the first time I walked into a “mega farm” barn! The smell was disgusting and the poor heifers were covered in poo! I have never been so disgusted as I was that day! I love that your sweet cows are taken such good care of.

I raise Muscovy ducks. I think they make amazing pets with egg benefits. I also raise quail for eggs. We have space o chickens, but live in a city that doesn’t allow them. Quail are considered gamebids or pets like parakeets. As long as the6 are raise humanly, the city doesn’t rest it them. Muscovy ducks are considered pets like dogs so I’m allowed 2 per property. I live on a outlet lot, so I have 4. I have about 34-70 quail, depending on if I’ve just hatched. I do sell some but mainly for pets and eggs.
