I don't think the President understands what Kenyans are going through. In reference to the protest, I Don't know whether he is just acting clueless or he is, but things are not well. We are seeing a lot of wastage in government yet he keeps saying he is doing everything to make life better. There is nothing wrong with taxes but when they are out to burden an already overburdened people, they are not worth it. I am one of the youths who has had to struggle with unemployment and I am on the verge or loosing a scholarship to study abroad because I can't even afford air ticket. Yaani, the little we get from hustling we cannot even afford to save for a rainy day. Things need to improve but the President doesn't appreciate that

The president appeared pissed off and bitter for having been forced to pull off the bill. No show of remorse or empathy. He did not offer any condolences to those that lost life, those who lost their children, brothers and sisters. He did not offer condolences to the nation. He did not say am sorry. He appeared tone deaf. We’re hurting for crying out loud!!! Another thing was that the president was so defensive. It was so clear to me that he was on the side of the police no matter what. He was given so many opportunities to show leadership, to be the peacemaker and bring people together but he did not take that opportunity. In my opinion the president should have called for a day of mourning. I think the President should resign and let the Kenyans get someone who is able to identify with their plight.

@lucynderitu, we can't be certain that the finance bill was withdrawn yet. You see, parliament members are on recess until the 23rd of July. And he's yet to call them back for an emergency seating. Also, if he has decided to sit that bill on his desk pending further action, with or without his signature the bill automatically becomes LAW after 14 Days. This is despite what the president tells the Kenyan people. Now ... Given that the presidents' word means absolutely nothing (ZERO CREDIBILITY), it's very possible that he's playing yet another "catch-me-if-you-can" game with the public. Ruto isn't one to concede. Not in this lifetime. We have to wait and see if he has not lied to us yet again

Kenya has more than enough money to pay those loans if it were not for corruption. Increasing tax every year post Covid when a lot of us have shut down businesses as our politicians live extravagantly is not a solution. Hell, if he asked the 50Mil of us contribute 2,000 each we’d clear that loan. But then if the loop holes are not sealed and expenditure reduced, we will be in the same hole 5 to 10 years from today. We actually don’t even need new roads everywhere for now, neither do we need the housing projects for now, maybe even just equip hospitals and postpone half of the projects until we reduce loans and reduce their salaries.

I agree with your sentiment to a level. This man lied repeatedly on his campaign trail by promising youths wheelbarrows. He courted them with hustler nation slogans. Many warnings were sounded, but went unheeded. The youth was his target audience. And while his alternative was not a saint by any stretch of the imagination, Ruto’s character was obvious to anyone who cared about facts. My point is that even the electorate needs to be held accountable. After all he was elected…by Kenyans. the indifferent politicians were ALL elected. Who then can Kenyans complain to? The journalists tried their best to prompt the President to react humanely by asking how he felt but he constantly failed to give empathetic responses. He should have taken this opportunity to redeem at least some trust of the people and probably soften the hearts of a few to have a dialogue. But he chose otherwise. He might as well brace himself because as the Gen Z say He will not believe.

I once had a narcissist boss who behaved just like Ruto, as a woman my life was so miserable. He was a master gaslighter and liar. He would lie about deadlines to make me overwork. Withhold information just to see me frustrated. Give subtle threats just like Ruto. His close friends in the office were just like him. There's no surviving with people like these. It's either you leave the place or make them leave. They have zero empathy. In the end I had to quit. Ruto too must LEAVE!. The worst part is he used to masquerade as a God fearing prayerful man.

He could have acted, he could have pretended. He could have acted like he gives a damn...he doesn't. Which means we are in trouble 😭. He is for the excessive force used by the police, he is not up to date about the victims that have died, he has defended and justified the killer behaviour of the police,he refuses to acknowledge that many more lives have been lost, there are so many things he has gotten wrong. How can he expect us to respect the law when he himself does not.

I think our influencers should be careful not to fuel this situation. Yes, we need to push for the rogue officers to be arrested. I had the LSK and KNCHR have videos of rogue officers, they have to sue them. If the government has videos of those who destroyed property, let them arrest and charge them. There is no need of fueling this situation further. It can be very costly to our country.

Lynn Ngugi, thanks for your honest and deep root analysis. My feeling is, yes, the president should be given time to work out things the right way, no doubt about that. However, should he not accomplish this as at the end of his term, he should be asked to step aside, kindly, or in case he persists, be voted out nice and easy. This is a very frustrated and troubled man at the moment and voting him out upon completion of his term will be the most kind gesture from all good willing Kenyans who have the best interests of this country at heart.
