she was, but tbh the Empress wasn't the worst of the lot either. She was always insecure, which is why she kept fucking with Ruyi, but she was genuinely dedicated to the Emperor. That's why she was so devoted to giving the Emperor children, and why she made the (honestly not bad choice) of recommending Lady Chun as the next Empress. From her perspective it makes sense not to recommend Ruyi because of their history (and tbh in the end, the Empress and the Dowager Empress were both right that Ruyi was a bad choice for Empress because of how principled she was). Honestly, the Emperor treated the Empress the same way he treated Ruyi - both women devoted their whole lives to him and yet all he did was mistrust them and complain about everything they did for him.

Yes, you can. Being jealous is no excuse to commit the evils that the empress committed/were complicit to. She helped kill off two innocent women and their unborn children (one of which were her own sister), poisoned Ruyi and Xiyue making them infertile and weakening their health, and tried burning down the cold palace, which could have caused multiple casualties. Her treatment of Ruyi, Hailan, Lianxin, and Wanyan was appalling.

@@avut2001 Emotional pain and frustrations can lead you to become depressed and desperate. Heavy pressure from your family and whole clan is something we can never understand. All the things Langhua been through is too much to drive her crazy and desperate. Especially the way the Emperor, her husband treated her from the very beginning. I understand her character in the story but of course there's never an excuse for one to do evil things to others. But still I can't blame her.

Luckily, all do not think that way, otherwise evil would go unpunished. So many people have more pitiful and undeserved circumstances than the empress, yet they do not resort to this. She only has herself to blame, and she got away lightly considering her crimes.

@@avut2001 In comparison to Langhua, Yanwan and Jia are the 2 most sinister characters in the story. Totally unforgivable. Each woman in the story all have things they want to achieve but they differ in motives and ways. Ruyi chose the calm and peaceful facade but lets Hailan do the revenge in the most possible subtle way. Langhua used Gao as a puppet for her evil plans. Of course Ruyi is the main protagonist in the story so her character should be as saintly as possible.
