Ruyi should have punched her ticket immediately. It would have saved alot of lives, but the emperor would have never believed she was the issue. He would have blamed Ruyi again.

I always cry at this part. For (now don't hate me) both of them. Both fell into Consort Ling's trap. She only ever cared about herself. Yes the Emperor was wrong in many ways, but Ruyi also never defended herself... or if she did she gave in too easily. They both were never the same after Jingsi and the 13th(?) prince died, which was Ling's fault as well. Consort Ling was willing to sacrifice anyone and anything that was in her way of power. They both never got time to overcome their grief, because everything just seemed to happen one after the other. Now I'm not defending one way or the other, but it is so unfortunate how their story goes.

The emperor is at fault the most. He was always about being upright and bringing honor to his reputation but he easily fell for ling’s seduction. Ruyi never wanted drama but I agree she has some fault for not speaking up more directly. Ling deserved more punishment than what she got in the end.

@@onceyouwheeinyoucantwheeout I will say I agree, Ruyi probably should have been more willingly to ammend things with him, but she's too proud. That's why them empress dowager felt she wasn't the most suitable as empress since being empress is no more than being the biggest trophy wife and puppet of your husband and mother in law. Having your own personality is not suitable, it would have been better if she stayed as high ranking consort.

@@onceyouwheeinyoucantwheeout Unfortunately the idiot emperor wouldn't have listened to Ruyi even if she did stand up to him early on. There was always an excuse or the use of "I am the Emperor" to shut down any disagreements. Everything, in his mind, had to revolve around his ego and desires, in addition to soothing his deep insecurities and inability to own up to his faults (what he did to poor Ling Yunche aside, the guy went into a jealous fit when a Buddhist monk stopped Ruyi from tripping; let's not even get to the fiasco with Mistress Han where his own lion of a mother couldn't even reason with him). *Potential Spoilers* That is why what Ruyi and, towards the end of the series, Wei Yanwan said to the emperor were able to cut so deep and infuriate him.

@@dlesher3101 No, we get it... it's just the fact that he was a depraved and insecure individual that ultimately abused his power with only the Empress Dowager being immune from his tantrums. That being said, the attitude that he had towards the people around him led to only a handful genuinely caring about him with the others just putting up with him. And some of them have rebelled against/stood up to him either overtly (Mistress Han outright stating that she wasn't going to kiss up to him like Yanwan) or covertly (another concubine low-key trying to infect him with a disease after he mistreated her up to her death). He had all of the power, yes, but that didn't mean that everyone kept their heads down or didn't make a fuss.

I wish Empress Dowager was there during this scene. That will kill Ling Fei 100%. She never win against Empress Dowager. Another wish was that, I want Ru Yi have a final moment with Ling Fei where she kills her. Although this was not how it was in the real history but for God sake this ending will satisfy most of us.
