Living in an RV means dealing with dumping your black tank (UNLESS you have an OGO Composting toilet (link below)! In Yuma, AZ I was stuck at a dump station for 3 hours because one person failed in their RV Dump Station Etiquette. I caught it all on video AND timed how long it really takes people to dump their tanks.

Not in AZ at least. He got lucky there weren't more dudes around, it probably wouldn't have gone as well for him. AZ is an open carry state AND one can conceal carry without a permit. Let that one sink in for a moment. Just cause you are not seeing the firearm, doesn't mean they don't have them, possibly on their person. Throw in 100 degree heat and that guy got freaking lucky to get out of their unscathed.

Another great video, Robin! This reminds me of our first dump station experience. I asked my husband to put his foot in the sewer hose to keep it in place as I pulled the black tank handle. (Dump station was just a round hole in a cement trough) Somehow his foot slid off, and his foot got covered before I could close the black tank. Yes, we learned some important information, provided entertainment to those behind us, and my husband got new tennis shoes.

They, are the entertainment, they just don't know it. Took my husband 20+ minutes to dump, no fill... his first time with a 2nd hand trailer with no salesman walkthrough so he didn't know where the black water hose was kept. Who woulda thunk the bumper??? Other campers were gracious and showed us the ropes. Best entertainment is at the closest campsite to a boat launch, painfully funny shenanigans.

Robin, I have followed you for years and you always have your systems so streamlined, even in a certified RV. Your plan to put a composting toilet in your Airstream is perfect. Relying on water hook ups, dumping, etc is a thing of the past for me. I'm in a cargo trailer conversion with power stations, solar, 7 gallon water containers (6 of them, and a very simple toilet and shower (Joolca) means I never have to wait in line. It's good to see you again. A year ago February, I bought a class A RV. She is a bit older but heck aren't we all, 1997 isn't too bad. She only had about 42k miles for $8600. I am going back through all of your videos and taking notes. I have gone on two trips sticking to I-35 both times. I'm not ready for 2-lane highways yet. The plans for this year are 1) get my 91 yr old father moved in with my daughter, 2) put rubber on the RV roof, 3) replace all of the plumbing in the toilet that a friend managed to blow apart, 4) put better tires on the front, 5) get the Generac generator cleaned & hopefully running, and sneak in a short trip in the fall. WOW the things I have learned. Make sure to watch your mirrors because they are easy to knock off. Don't let any Joe blow put a tire on because you might end up sitting on the side of the highway with all but 1 lugnut stripped away (that was a scary one). When I bought her she went straight in to have the motor and chassis inspected then to another well-known and hated by most RV dealership to have the house checked out. Someone forgot to look at the brakes. I left my parking spot in Austin to go empty my tanks, my exit was coming up and when I went to my brakes to begin slowing down that sucker went to the floor. I calmly mentioned this to the friend with me & I thought he was going to jump ship. Thank goodness I listened to at least one thing my gearhead ex hubby had taught me how to maneuver with no brakes. That kicked in and I e braked & used the lower gears to drive 14 miles in Austin traffic. I was eerily calm during the crisis but once I got parked I ran out the door and threw up, I was shaking beyond control, but we made it. The next day I had it towed to a semi garage and had nothing that functioned on my rear brakes. I hope to run into you at some point during our travels. See ya.

Someone pulled up behind me. Got filled up an waited and waited and waited for van driver to return. Cant go around because it it too tight. Can't back up. Basically trapped for 45 MINUTES.....Unbelievable!!!! Guy behind me did back up and went to another pump. Still couldn't back up because cars parked along the curb behind me and no way to swing the trailer. I can't drive after dark and had to regroup on my designated overnight spot because i lost 45 minutes of daylight.

This is one issue I’ve found that being a diesel makes difficult. You pull in to the station that has only one diesel pump and you have ding bats like that using it for gasoline.

I wash my dog in head and shoulders shampoo. I store it in my water bay. I'm really ocd about not storing a stinky water hose. I ran out of dawn dish soap and used the shampoo. I've never had a stinky sewer hose since. It only takes 2 minutes to wash it out. AND I totally agree about being polite at the dump station. I never take that much time to dump!

That's insanity. I've fortunately never had something like happen before. I've used a $10 dump station at a Love's travel stop right in Yuma and have never had to wait at that one.

Wow! Thanks for this video! I am new new new, like just put a deposit on my first RV new. This is something I didn't think about yet. I will have to make sure I go to a dump station at a less busy time since I know I will be slow the first several times 😮 I would never ever want a line of people like that waiting on me! I would probably have a panic attack 😅 and have a poopsie too, right in front of everyone 💩 Hopefully I will get some good practice in at campgrounds with full hook ups, which is my starter plan, before doing the boondocking I want and trying out a dump station like that! Thank you!!

Lol I listened to your intro and went straight to the comment section. I can't watch it. There are enough jack-holes is real life to be aggravated by one in a video. Over entitled narcissism seems to be the current pandemic and I've pretty much reached my limit.

It takes me about 12 minutes to dump two separate tanks. Sometimes it might take 15. I don’t use their portable water. so, everybody watching this video needs to go out of their way to be kind to the new people or possibly people that are struggling for one reason or another. Just be nice to each other and it’ll be contagious.

In Arizona, many rest areas on the highway have potable water stations too. Right by the sidewalk when you pull up. It's good water.

Big fan of the composting toilets. I originally had a nature's head - which I recommend if you have space and camp a lot. You have to take it out of the airstream to really clean it. Or at least have a wet bath? I got the Trelino which is just okay. It's nice and small and I am keeping it, but I wish I had looked into the OGOs.

That makes me glad I have a teardrop. Lol Boat ramp etiquette seems to be out the window as well. As I was preparing to put my boat in the water and waiting for the kayakers (Yes, kayakers), using the boat ramp, You could imagine my frustration when they set up chairs in 3 inches of water on the ramp to relax after they put them in, not realizing people behind them, trying to get their real boat in the water.

He wasn't a newbie, by any chance, was he? I know that when we were new it took us a bit longer than usual but we were very apologetic if we created lines. And we quickly learned how to be more efficient and fast at the dump stations!

Geez! I'm getting a hybrid composting toilet - a Separett Tiny Toilet. Liquid drains to the gray tank, solids go into a bag you throw in the dumpster. You can use a little kitty litter or peat moss if you like. Constant exhaust fan (silent) ensures no smell. There is the possibility of odor from the gray tank coming up through the shower drain, but a bath plug takes care of that easily. 😊

We spent quite a bit of time this winter camped near the LaPosa South dump station (away from the smell!), and you would not believe the things we saw. Unbelievably slow people and their screaming non-fan club. It was better than an episode of Real Housewives.
