What could be causing our electricity to go out. Power went out at the campground and it went out at our RV...we didn't even have lights running off of the battery!! In this video Robert walks you through his troubleshooting process and shares why this happened. Hopes it helps you if you are in a similar situation.

This is great Robert, we use to own a HVAC co. & in cold winter, furnaces wouldn't fire up until later in the morning, when it would start to warm up, due to a poor ground connection, so I can see this as the issue, & thanks for sharing this & for all you & Jessica do to inform everyone, Deb & I will most likely buy a 5th wheel toy hauler, because of our music gear(guitars & amps & recording gear), but that won't happen until later down the road, but for now, we do our research & attend RV shows, thanks for all you do, rock on & God Bless.

Awesome! That's some good info, me and my family are going on our first boondocking trip this weekend. It's always good to learn all the basics to check when running into problems.

+ese Relampago Yeah! Sometimes it's something so basic. Also, my father in law almost fried the RV electrics to days ago. LOL! He rigged an electrical cable to plug into the dryer outlet in his home. However he juiced the RV with 250 volts instead of 125!!!! Poof! Everything's ok but we went IFR conditions from smoke in the RV. There's cable somewhere in here with burned insulation I gotta find :) :) :)

thanks robert for sharing that with us i also own a travel trailer and i never new it had that automatic cut off switch now i know what too look for in case I'll have the same problem.

Thanks! I need to do some more poking around too. My father in law hooked us up to his Dryer power at 30 amps, however, he didn't check that we're a 125 volt system and he juiced us at 250 volts!!! Poof, smoke, but everything is working OK. I'm sure though, that there is a wire leading to the inverter that has burned insulation!

you can go to any auto supply store and buy a new ground cable. Make sure you get the correct gauge so it won't over heat. It will have more heavy duty connectors. Good luck and thanks for the video. Always enjoy you guys.

Hello, thanks for this video. It does help with the newbies like me out there. Though, I didn't really get what needed to be done until it went "click" a little later as I monkey'd with the battery. For those who missed it, the "hoop" on the end of the cable is larger than the threaded post it goes over. Thus, simply pull the wire to one side and make sure the inside of that hoop is touching that post before cranking it down between washers etc. etc. I thought squishing it between the washers was good enough. I made the quick correction and my display was showing full power again. Derp. Thanks again!!

Thanks for the vidio, no better teacher than the old school of hard knocks. In otherwords looking at the problem when it happens and getting your hands dirty. The threaded post is the normal way to connect your cables but the cable connections should be removed and cleaned once or twice a year. I have a 2015 Hideout and have just installed an inverter in the front cargo also moved the auto reset circuit breakers into the cargo bay to get them out of the weather.

I like you all the best because you go big ,have kids but without solar, no 40' 5th wheel,8 battery bank,until recently a generator or much knowledge other than common sense and desperation. And you are full timing making it work. I think you guys are doing great Do a vid how Jessica cooks for 4 on a crappy 3 burner stove with no room and weak RV refrigerator.

Jessica cook? Actually she does pretty good when she gets around to it. She's working near full time at home so the cooking generally falls to me. We're really enjoying the life and the next six months up the east coast will be an eye opener for us I'm sure! Thanks for your continuing support! :)

In my line of thinking (being a ham radio operator) is that almost all D.C. Electrical issues start at the D.C. Power source (battery in ur case) and after checking breaker, the issue will usually be a bad ground. I hope this is helpful. I like your videos mostly because there is no BS, there a real family doing real things. Stay well and coming into the summer now, please stay hydrated, a maybe look into a good hand pump water purifier, i use an MSR, they are about $90.00 and you can (this is gross) filter water from your grey tank and drink without boiling period. If I don't stop writing now this will end up an essay LOL Best wishes Gregory

Hi Gregory!! thanks for sharing your helpful information!! We are definitely looking into a water purifier. We actually thinking of the Berkey. It will filter pond water if needed. Is the MSR similar?? We try to avoid the BS. Who you see in the video is exactly who you would see if you met us in person. :)

Hey guys, the MSR can filter water from a known bad water source (including chemical contamination) and make as clean if not cleaner than most bottled water. I used mine or 20 years when i was still driving truck over the road, it filtered a lot of bad water and i never once got sick. It was also stored in the attic for a number of years until recently and the only maintenance needed was a tiny bit of lube on the o rings and i changed the cartridge just because. If you need more than a couple gallons a day though, that may be tough with any hand pump.

The stud is the preferred connection. Just use the proper washers for a good connection. Deep cycle batteries will only have studs.

Put a small washer over the connector and the nut but be sure to cover it with grease first so they don't corrode ..

Omg ur awesome u had me cracking up the whole time... man thanks for giving me some direction!! I knew nothing about an auto breaker so im going to go looking for that soon as im done writing this.. I definitely think one of the problems is a bad breaker plus the way the solar was hooked up is realllly shotty so I gotta check all the connections e.t.c... thanks again!!😊👍👍

I hate those chinese auto breakers. Mine never closed. I finally ripped them out and installed marine grade, waterproof, manual breakers. At least now I can visually see a tripped breaker and reset it. I do have parallel batteries and have those small post connectors. I need to replace those too.

Every month or so pour some coke on the terminals and the acid in the coke with neutralize the green buildup on the posts causing loss or poor electrical connection, use this on your car as well and rinse after performing this for clean cables.

Have the same issue going on. Bought like 6 of those stupid 30amp circuit breakers with bracket. Fixing it right now. Thanks for doing you and sharing bro. Campers world are morons.
