@@carolineheffernan7368 Weather has already gotten worse. There have already been more extreme weather events such as extreme temperatures, drought, floods, mudslides, tornados, hurricanes etc. Climate change is happening now.

One cause listed for the tornado outbreak has been the unusually high temps in the gulf of mexico this year which created spring-like weather in the midwest. The ocean temps are what determine hurricane season and not calendar dates.

PLEASE READ CAROLYN. I am from Florida and please do NOT let Sadie in ANY body of water in the south. The alligators hang out on the shoreline to launch themselves on shore to catch animals and take them under to drown and eat them. They will even do this while you are walking your dog on leash. Please stay 50 ft from shore with an animal. Alligators are up in North Carolina and South. I volunteer in finding lost dogs in Florida, if they are lost, hot and thirsty; they head to water and it's a death trap. Thanks friend

Carolyn, you deserve some sort of “Award For Public Service” for this video. You did an excellent job (professional level) of clearly and calmly explaining a multitude of dangerous scenarios - and then gave tons of quick and easy tips to keep people safe. Pat yourself on the back for potentially saving many lives. You are a kind and thoughtful person. I hope I get to meet you someday to thank you in person.

Thank you so much for this information. It is only going to get worse, the tornadoes that went through your neck of the woods have never happened before in December. It is as if Tornado Alley has shifted to the east. Stay safe. Hugs to you and Sadie. Tips from a hurricane tested Texan, I put as many bottles of water that will fit into our freezer before the storm. They keep things in there frozen longer and are very refreshing to drink when the power is out.

I do the same thing year round and have a cooler to put some in for refrigerated foods. I have emergency supplies in my apt. and in my van. When we had a storm and lost power, I was shocked at how many people didn't have even a flashlight.🙄 I live in senior apartments and hopefully they learned from me.

Tornadoes can happen any time of the year in any state. Climate has always changed. I remember temps in the 60s for highs in July in the 1960's. I also remember Christmases with temps in the upper 60's in Iowa. Weather is not climate. Weather disasters are not a sign of climate change. They are the result of the clash of cold and hot weather systems. Climate is determined by location on the planet relative to the sun, not CO2. Spring Summer Fall and Winter happen because of the tilt of the planet as it orbits the sun. Change of season is the worst time for severe weather.

I have been worried about all the vanlifers out there during all these crazy storms, so glad to see your post tonight and to hear that you avoided the worst of it. One thing about nighttime tornados is that you can't see them, it's the worst situation. If traveling always keep an eye on the weather and know where you can seek shelter if things start going sideways. Another thing is to get a tracker for your pets. Pets tend to freak in bad weather and they frequently take off and it helps to locate them if that happens. You did a good job talking about what places to avoid during inclement weather, thumbs up!

Oh yes there is warning signs. Look for a shelter in a town, like a church. There should be a public shelter in the Midwest and all. We've got earthquakes and now the tornados are moving East from OK. I have no clue what to do with earthquakes SMH and we have em here in Oklahoma. Thanks for the tips. I'm looking at RVs and selling my Home. Taxes are insane since the last dufus was on office and raised property taxes even for us on a lower income. Feels like it hits us REALLY hard. I came from hurricane territory to earthquake lol. But ok is home. The melting of the ice caps are going to cause the oceans to raise. It's going to get really bad on the coasts. Oh my, good point. I've got to make copies of things. Thanks for the tips! Blessings and safe travels! Carole

Thank you Carolyn for the excellent info! ❤. I live in Florida. Hurricanes alone are so dangerous and unpredictable, to compound things, they can spawn tornadoes so plan accordingly. Always have a full tank of gas, cash and a manual can opener. I would suggest wearing a bike or motorcycle helmet to protect your head from flying debris. Afterward help each other with recovery, municipal services maybe unavailable. Be safe everyone it is better to err on the side of.caution.❤

I live on Vancouver Island and we are in danger of tsunami and earthquake, so, on the first Wednesday of the month the sirens are tested. The test sound starts with people saying "This is a test....." Then, the sound of a didgeridoo plays 😂💗❤️💗. I made sure Dixie my dog comes to me by making it fun, we dance to the music. Fortunately, surrounded by mountains on three sides, hurricanes and tornados are not an issue, only rain and wind..... BIG trees! Well done, Carolyn, well done👍👍.

One more thing. If at all possible, get INSIDE of a building, especially if its sturdy and has withstood time and punishment. Your human body is a pin cushion for twigs flying at you at 125 mph. A ground floor bathroom IN THE TUB, pull a twin mattress or blankets over you. Brace yourself in a doorway and cover your head, if time is short. WEAR YOUR SHOES - broken glass. KIDS, PUT ON YOUR BIKE HELMETS.

I live in Iowa where we've had 2 derecho's in the last 2 years. The one we had last year had winds of 110 to 130mph and the destruction was across the state. We have tornadoes and if you are traveling in a vehicle the weather bureau suggests getting to a convenience store for safety. They usually have heavy walls around their freezers. Tornadoes here are sometimes rain wrapped and hard to spot. After the derecho last summer we are all on guard when they forecast storms because none of us had ever experienced anything like it before.

Was almost hit by a tree & downed wires falling in front of my car going for a job interview. In N.J. a tornado. Went to visit a friend that lived on the 22nd floor of a highrise along the banks of downtown Memphis riverfront. We had 90mph straight line winds come across the Mississippi river. Shook the building and damage every where. Good thing she is a prepared person like me. I survived because I was prepared and knew what to do. Thanks Carolyn.

Extreme weather in a vehicle is the scariest I have ever been . I rode shotgun with my boyfriend who drove a semi . We had a delivery at the Walmart Distribution Center in Alabama. While we where waiting for our trailer to be unloaded. Rain and winds came fast and furious and We where under tornados watches and warnings . We have alerts going all around us . We made to the truck stop and we checked supplies. Water , food, snacks. We had 3/4 tank of gas . We where subject to winds blowing and rocking the truck . We parked amongst other tractors and trailers , we had sort of wind block . I packed change of clothes, thru my meds in my pocket book , plugged in phones to charge . I don't think I sleep a wink ,come morning the skies cleared . There had been 3 tornadoes on the ground where we came from . We where lucky . No damage at the truck stop and we went on way . I respect the weather . Tonight in North Carolina it's 68° on Dec . 19, Rains are coming tomorrow and at times they can be rough .

A bugout bag is critical to people in sticks and bricks because even if you ride a storm out in your basement you may wake up to the house above you being gone. Kudos to a great video!!!! And that test alarm going off was hilarious LOL happened to us when we moved towns as different towns may have different test times.

We were within 20 miles of that tornado in western Tenn. . Staying in friends yard. They have a shelter in their basement but decided to stay in our RV. It got extremely windy and then got totally quiet and that’s when I got freaked out. Luckily no personal damage but power was out for a week. Being a fulltimer we were prepared and our friends moved into their RV with all the amenities. No working gas station was my reminder what no power can do. Being in a rural area you had to travel only to find 50+ vehicles in line for gas, especially for their generators. Since we’re all getting ready to travel west for the winter we were well stocked in diesel, gas and food. Bless you for your work to inform others. Other than a earthquake I’ve experienced most and it’s scary. Hope you have a Merry Christmas.

Do your own research! Have a plan during a watch, too late in a warning. Mother nature makes a lot of noise, can't always hear a warning siren. Sides of building don't help when the building falls on you. Brick is good, underground is better. Events that give you many day's notice leave. 🌪 you don't always have much notice. The weather radio, battery operated, is best. Flash light is a must. Weather is changing, so again old information is not great. Follow instructions of the national weather service. Stay safe.

This was such great info for those who are living on the road or those of us who are in sticks and bricks. Weather patterns are changing all over the United States and the world nothing that was normal when I was a kid and I’m in my 60s is normal now. I definitely thought about you with the tornado season and I’m glad that you made it through that one safely. As I watch the video and saw the wind picking up and then the siren going off. I have to tell you I held my breath! Very good information and something for all of us to pay attention to no matter what’s your living situation it’s good to be prepared I grew up in Southern California and have always been someone who was prepared for earthquakes and after moving to Northern California became prepared for fire season now in Oregon fire season is a way of life and the season gets longer every year. Thank you Carolyn for always providing us with education and the wonderful scenery of your travels stay safe love to you and Sadie always 💜✌🏽

If the weather gets bad, look for a camping bathroom, their usually made of cinder block. Which is pretty sturdy.
