Propane tanks can reach up to 250 psi in the summer at very hot temperature. Also the QCC1 light green is not for high pressure. It is fine for the grill you have but if you where to put a torch on the high pressure quick connect you made the green QCC1 has a shut off valve that will kick in if the pressure rising quickly. Ideally you should get a QCC1 RED with hose attachment that will work for any high pressure appliance you have. You can also do a pressure test without propane which is safer, To take it further you could have added a splitter and another regulator for low pressure and have a quick connect for low pressure as well. You can use 2 regulators as long as the first regulator has higher output pressure there will not be any problems. There is an attachment you can buy that is 3/4 Inch Pressure Test Kit, 100 PSI, Push to Connect Brass Plumbing Fitting, You basically attach this fitting to your setup and air compressor and push as much air as you want and then test for leaks. Much safer. Nice video and informative never the less :)

Thanks for the video Charles. I'd suggest you also use the rubber plug on the end of you quick connect. You don't want road dust getting into the end of your connection. My trailer came with a factory installed quick connect and the yellow rubber plug. It catches a lot of road debris from my truck's tires. Thanks again :)

Excellent video. My issue is, my RV came with the propane connection and the BBQ. I bought a Coleman BBQ that use disposable tanks, bought a hose for the quick connection and the 1”-20 but only get a small flame.

The propane quick connect on your RV is most likely low pressure and your grill is high pressure if it uses a disposable canister and a regular.

I love your ingenuity! However, entrapping the metal conduit (new gas line) with an exterior pipe may result in gas to buildup if there’s ever a leak. You must not have an exterior hose pressured with gas using transport. If anything, you should have made a QC connection on door so you could quickly open tank valve, close the access door and connect grill to QC. When finished, close valve on tank and remove extension hosing. Becareful!

Bought a little grill assuming I could just plug it in for the quick connect and it would work. Not so. I could tell the pressure was too low. But I had no clue there were high/low pressure grills. Thanks for the lesson. Looks like I need a low pressure grill.

I’m wrestling with a similar problem but the low pressure stuff often is affected by wind so look for something with wind blockage. I’m likely going to add a T at our RV 20lb tank to plumb a high pressure line with high pressure quick disconnect like he did (however less overkill lol) and the rest of the RV system will still be low pressure after the std low pressure regulator on the other side of the T.
@joshhaas2410
@joshhaas2410 2 жыл бұрын
Or maybe not. A comment from someone else makes it pretty clear this is unsafe because the propane in liquid form will take up the volume of the line to the quick disconnect. All because the best practice is to have regulators as close to the storage tank as possible.

@@joshhaas2410 yeah, unfortunately I will probably end up springing for a new grill + conversion parts. Just like the RV industry to make something that should be easy, difficult and expensive lol

@@Eric-469 I’m sure you’ll figure out a good solution. I was putting together a line with a T at the main lp tank to go without a regulator to a high pressure disconnect dedicated for a high pressure stove. Well, after pricing all the parts it’s just not a good way to go. Grill plus parts I’d be well over $200 and I learned it’s not safe to have the regulator that far away from the tank with liquid lp in the line. So I’ve decided similar to you at first, to stay on the low pressure side and I’m currently searching for the right low pressure dual burner for my needs. Good luck to ya man!

You would be further ahead to just buy another low pressure grill, because now you can't use the switchover regulator between the 2 propane tanks.

Although the finished install inside the propane tank area wasn't shown in the video, I can assure you that the steel pipe came completely thru the floor before the flexible hose attached so abrasion will never be an issue!

My DRV came with a quick disconnect on the low pressure side, after the regulator. I would like to connect my Coleman RoadTrip LXE Propane Gas Grill which comes with a detachable regulator. I am able to get the low pressure connector that connects to the grill after the regulator supplied to this grill, or I could remove this connector from the regulator so it can be connected to a compatible low pressure mail connector. My dilema is that I heard that the regulators supplied with this grill may supply a greater low pressure than supplied by the regulators in the trailer and therefore not supply adequate gas for cooking. Are you able to confirm or deny this?

So have you essentially taken one of your propane tanks out of the loop for you automatic changeover regulator Charlie? Both of my tanks are connected to the automatic changeover regulator that controls flow to my TC appliances. My quick disconnect is attached to a separate line that comes off of my propane system just like my appliances do. However when I connect my quick connector to it to use my grill, there is not enough pressure to push the propane through the 12ft hose so it won’t work. I will check that fitting end you show in yours. Seems backwards in your mod to me.
@Camperman1951
@Camperman1951 Жыл бұрын
I think the reason you are not getting enough pressure is because you have your QC to your grill after your regulator, and your grill ALSO has a regulator.

@@richardcabrera1583 If you RV has a factory installed quick connect outside (double check your RV dealer) the pressure should be regulated near the tank. I have never seen HP more than a foot from the tank as there is usually a regulator similar to this: www.amazon.com/dp/B08XYH5H6Q?th=1&linkCode=li2&tag=camperfaqs-20&linkId=bcf3d3cd459becbdd51c0606cddf615c&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_il .

Threaded connections use the first third of the threaded area to start the threading, the middle third to make the seal, and the last third for the inspector to see that it’s done properly. You haven’t gotten it nearly tight enough. Once it bounces down the road it will loosen and drain a tank really quick(since it’s unregulated). Yeah, I’m a plumber.

You have opened a can of worms for my RV project . I have ordered a propane only Baja 900 -watt generator to charge my battery's with . I was going to hook it to my quick connect where my out side grill would be connected . The regulator must be inside this unit . That's going to be going through two regulators. Any advice now that you have an understanding of this propane pressure stuff . Thank

There are so many things wrong and unsafe. The reason the storage pressure is high is to keep the propane in liquid state allowing you to store much more propane in your tanks than if it was in a gaseous state. Most, if not all rigs have the regulator and close as possible to the storage units and not allow the HP propane into the distribution system. There are DOT regulations that address this issue. With your design, the propane may still be in liquid form in the piping and the hose upstream of regulator on the grill. Running HP gas (liquid) to the grill will cause oil build up in the line eventually faulting the regulator at the grill. I assume that you are now running liquid propane in the hose, on the ground. Are you protecting this hose from potential external damage (rocks, stepped on, etc.)? Ironic that you are trying to protect the steel pipe with PV.? Also, over time, the galvanizing will flake inside the piping so you need to install a filter before the regulator. Please reconsider to convert to LP hookup, convert the grill by removing the regulator, and just buy a second grill to take to a friends place. Sorry for being such an alarmist.

High pressure does not mean there is liquid in the line! If there is liquid in the line, the tank was overfilled or has tipped over while the service valve is open.

Great idea except they do not sell flexible lines long enough to reach where I wanted to go! Also heard that high pressure lines over 10-15 feet long collect oil in the propane line and require a trap (like in a house) to remove the oil before it fouls the appliances!

Stoves operate off of regulated propane, but stove tops typically have a second regulator at the stove that drops the PSI down from 11 WC to 10 WC inches. If your normal regulator is working, shown by all else working normally, then your second regulator at the stove may be bad. Best wishes!
