💥 Our Schwintek Bedroom slide has been a pain in our side almost the whole time we have had our rig. And we haven't even had it that long! If you search the internet, you will find the schwintek slide system is not the most popular system out there.
💥 In this video we address an issue with the rollers starting to crack or break through the bottom of the slide. The only place that we started to notice was at the far outside edge. This appears to be where the rollers sit on the slide when the slide is retracted in for transport or storage. We didn't want this to become a bigger issue down the road.
💥 We were able to find where people have used aluminum strips for the rollers to ride on but since we try to save as much money as possible and stay on budget, Jordan went to looking in his dad's scrap pile. He was able to find a partial sheet of 1/8" steel and there was just enough.
⭐ Tools & Materials We Used ⭐
🔗 Loctite Adhesive Caulk - amzn.to/3dRuLSi
🔗 1" Wood Screws - amzn.to/3fTBTiM
🔗 1/8" Sheet Metal - We cut ours to 9" Wide & 35.5" Long (Qty 3)
🔗 Black Spray Paint - amzn.to/3bD7pOu
🔗 Plasma Cutter - You can also use a grinder with a cutoff wheel
🔗 Grinder with Flapper Discs - amzn.to/2T8Ehsh
🔗 Cordless Drill - amzn.to/3MrKVp7
🔗 Caulking Gun - amzn.to/3dSNdKd
🔗 Rubber Mallet - amzn.to/2X3uJja
🔗 Drill Bit Set - amzn.to/2WZbBmv
⭐ How-To ⭐
1) Measure from the outside edge of your slide-out floor to the edge of your roller. You will want to add about 2" so that your support will go between your roller and the floor. Also, measure the width of your roller. Ours was 5" and we added 2" to each side for a total of 9".
2) We had 3 rollers so we cut out 3 supports that measured 35.5" x 9".
3) Grind all edges smooth with the grinder and flapper wheels and remove any surface rust from the metal.
4) Paint the supports to the color of your choosing.
5) Pre drill the holes in your supports. We choose to space our about every 6" on both side edges of the support.
6) Place the adhesive caulk to one side of the support.
7) Set one end against the slide roller and the floor. Use a rubber mallet to tap the support between the roller and floor until it will sit flush with the outside edge of the floor.
8) Press the support into place against the floor. (It helps to have an extra set of hands here.
9) With one person holding the support up, you can then screw the support into place. Be sure to start at the outside edge and work your way towards the roller.
10) Test the operation of the slide once all supports are in place to ensure nothing is binding.
💥 We have had nothing but issues with our Schwintek Slide system. In this video you see the slide doesn't come in all the way and pretty much stops working. We made an appointment with Cousins RV in Colorado Springs CO. www.cousinsrv.com/ This is the 2nd time we have had this slide into them for work. The first trip they replaced one of the motors. This time, the other motor had a short in the wiring harness. They replaced the harness and that was all this time. We have also had issues with leaking because of this system as well. If you do a search on the internet you will find this is a common issue.

Have a 2015 Lance 1995. Dinette slide. Same issue as your bed slide - minor (at this point) rollers pressing in. Thanks for posting the fix and letting us know how it's been going years later! As someone else commented I limit how much load I keep in the outside accessed hatch area and inside drawers beneath dinette seats. Just cords, hose, water and sewer accessories. Also place supports under inside of slide bottom when pulled in for travel. Suspect the supports are more important when on non-paved roads...and perhaps even more important on non-paved or bumpy roads given the flexibility of the Lance's component frame....

Good video. So to make sure I understand your process, you used 1" screws? Those didn't penetrate the floor at all? Also, I agree using thicker metal than thin aluminum is better but do you think that metal thickness caused the track to bind up because it did not take into account the slide is at a different level after the metal was installed? Schwintek is so picky. Thank you too for mentioning a good dealer in COS. That helps many other RVers.

Oh one more question, on your solitude have you had any problems with the rubber under the slide deteriorating or breaking. We have been full time just over a year now. (Camper is a 2019 3340rl , so she sat on the lot for a bit new before we got her.) but since about 6 months on we noticed little bits of rubber. Now living room rubber is really deteriorating and kitchen is just starting. Just curious if you have had any issues. We Lube so not like it’s dry. Going to contact GD to see if they have suggestions for diy fix or worst case Mobil tech. Not bringing to a dealer. Shopped our dealer (3rd camper in 20 Years, learned lesson after first one!) 2nd dealer was our favorite but didn’t carry what we wanted for full time. Anyway, thanks for any advice. And definitely going to do what you did for the roller. Ours is happening under the fridge. Been a problem since day one, we noticed Roller issue. @HayesHumbleHomestead
@HayesHumbleHomestead 3 жыл бұрын
Ours was bare wood under there. I thought of painting it or covering with a similar tarp but my fear was if water was to get into the wood there from a leak then I wouldn't catch it until the floor was falling out. We previously had a leak issue and I caught it early because I could see under the slide was wet. I see all of the newer trailers have that tarp material on there which makes it look nicer but I like the peace of mind seeing it.
@wingede10
@wingede10 3 жыл бұрын
Is this true? The clearance between your slide T edge/fascia and the cut-out sidewall has grown to a point where making adjustments cannot overcome the excessive clearance. That is why we add an additional seal on the inside, in order to make up for the excessive gap. This happens sometimes after slides get old and maybe have had a lot of use, the structure of the slide frame work can get to a point that it is not plumb, or square, anymore. Consequently the geometry of the slide is no longer the way it was when it was first built.
@HayesHumbleHomestead

Looks like it could use a few more rollers too.

I actually held up really well for us after we installed these. We were just looking at some friend's rig with them and their slide has no rollers in the slide is not holding up at although 😭

Great video! I assume that the 1/8” plate didn’t cause any misalignment with the gear rails on the sides of the slides. I need to check my bedroom wardrobe schwintec slide and do this mod on my grand design reflection 28bh.

Those schwintek are nothing but problems. Between leaking and motors breaking down they are a pain. I have read nothing but issues with them and yet they are still putting them on rigs.

The Camper House where did yours develop leaks?
@HayesHumbleHomestead
@HayesHumbleHomestead 3 жыл бұрын
@@hardtruth2039 we started noticing water damage under the slide on the edge. Sealed everything I could find and still leaked. Did some research online and found that water gets behind the track of the slide and then makes it wah down to the floor. Seems like a very common issue with these and now the new rigs are coming with filon underneath so you won't be able to see the water damage

The Camper House it’s a shame that they use such garbage equipment on the expensive rigs. We’re you ever able to stop the leak?

@@hardtruth2039 knock on solid wood it seems fixed for now! I'm sure I'll have to keep checking it and freshening up the seal every so often. I've seen a better fix since I sealed mine where the guy takes a track off and puts sealant behind it in the void area. So next time it starts leaking again that is what I will do.

Someone put plates on my long slide, now they dig into the ceramic tiles and leave a black mark when closed due to the slide bouncing relative to the RV.
@HayesHumbleHomestead
@HayesHumbleHomestead Жыл бұрын
Just like everything else, nothing is one size fits all, but this was a great fix for us. The slide rollers were starting to wear through the wood on the underside of the slide and holes in the slide wasn't a good option for us. Maybe it was something similar in your rig? This spot isn't an issue with tile or seeing the flooring at since it's under the bed in this rig.

if the factory knows this is a issue , why don't they fix the problem when there put together
@HayesHumbleHomestead
@HayesHumbleHomestead 8 ай бұрын
Factory is aware of many issues that they don't rectify. These things aren't built to last. As long as they can hold together through the warranty period then that is good enough for them.

They get crafty with their hiding spots. I've seen a secondary breaker panel under a stair tread that you would only find if you removed the tread.

i think to add more support on the topside of the slide because when slide is extended all weight pushing slide down and is only. support by little wheel inside the rack slide. pivot point is on the rollers that not good I see some rv factory they add two rack on upper side of the slide that is much stronger and and slide not tilt when is full extend
