I usually don’t comment. But one time my husband and I went on a month long trip and we gave our grandkids a wall map with our picture and they were able to follow our journey. Sending postcards documenting the trip to them would also be fun. I know they are young but receiving postcards and saving them to look out in the future is fun too. We went full time RVing and only able to do 7 months before my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. We would love to be able to travel again. I know Chris has had cancer and you guys know how precious life is. Your daughter and granddaughters will be fine and you’ll be back before you know it!

We are not out there full time, and we have 1 grand baby, but when we do get out there full time, when there is an Epic trip like this one planned, they will either be blown In to help us enjoy, or FaceTimed regularly, share videos back and forth on a app like What's App. You only get one go around and our moto is dream what you want & want what you dream.. Prob didn't help much, but that how we would handle it

I’ve never sent in a comment but this one hits close to my heart. My husband and I part time travel because of our grandkids. It’s our personal choice because we LOVE hanging out with them. They don’t need us as much as we need them. I say go on your trip. FaceTime daily and maybe send them each a postcard or some goodies (our grandkids love getting mail from us). If you get home/grandbaby sick…. just fly home for a few days.

We had a very similar scenario several years ago, both our kids announced that they were having babies two days after we so,d our home to move to Florida. After much conversations between Gail and I we committed to going to Florida, we were sad initially but came up with a great solution. We bought our rv ( class b van) and travel back and forth to stay with each one during the summer and then we go and travel for 3 months. The GC love the rv , we’ve taken the oldest grandson camping, and our daughter and husband bought a travel trailer and go on weekends. Listen you can change your plans or delay them so you can get your GC love. Irregardless, we will stick by you guys. Maybe do some videos with baby !

STOP over thinking! It's leading to a crisis that doesn't exist! We have been to Alaska by cruise ship. Looking forward to it in our RV. You're so fortunate to have another couple traveling and planning with you! I understand your grandchild situation, we are facing something similar. Have travel plans and now a grandchild due in a few weeks. We are going to help them during their transition back to work and then continue our travels. We will fly in for periodic visits. But we won't change our plans! You're healthy now, use that time while you can travel and find creative ways to connect with the grandkids during your travel. 💪

You guys seem to be good grandparents and family oriented. Love your videos and when the grandchildren get old enough introduce them to the camping world. My grandparents did that for me. I'm so thankful that they did because I have so many cherished memories and it also got me into Rving 20+ years ago. My grandfather had actually picked out my first rv travel trailer when I was on deployment in 2003, now with my family we upgraded to a class A and love our adventures good and not so good. Rving is such a great life. Love your channel and videos, safe travels. ❤️

Personally, I think you did a right save your diesel pusher for your local 46 states, getting the smaller class C gives you a chance to find the gems in Alaska and like you said easy back up easier all the way around then and sell the rig when you come back home and go back back to your diesel pusher. But I don’t have family anymore. I’m trying to find solo trips for myself. It’s different. I’m following you and learning.

Just go! And remember whether it’s good times or bad times, it’s all content! Seriously, though, I have a 27 foot class C RV and no tow vehicle, not even an e-bike at this moment. I will typically do my sightseeing, either at the beginning, or the end of getting to whatever my camping destination is going to be. That said, I am rarely any place where I have anything to disconnect. All I have to do is pull in the slide check the tire pressure and go. Pretty simple from my perspective. Enjoy the trip, looking forward to the videos! You’ve got this.

Take breath and do whatever you want. We left Vancouver Island last June, headed south to Arizona, across to Florida and are now in Tennessee, headingtotheMaritimes. Our kids are adults and get to choose how to live their lives and are happy for us. They seem to raise their children fine without us being there. Have fun. We definitely don't travel with other people in case we want to do something different. Maybe we are too independent.

I totally understand your dilemma with both the grand kids and the second RV. We have a class A and sometimes I wish I had a smaller rig to give us more flexibility but I wouldn’t want to pack and unpack for day trips. Missing the grand kids is a heart string pull. Gigi to Gigi...I feel your pain! That's hard, but a quick flight home, mid way through the trip, is totally doable. In my (Laurel) humble opinion, you need a tow vehicle or E-bikes to explore areas you're traveling to. I can't imagine being in Moab Utah, and being stuck at the RV resort or having to rent a jeep/car every time I wanted to explore. Being nimble is great and has its perks, but being mobile during this epic trip of a lifetime will enhance your trip 3 fold...in my opinion! Here's what I'd suggest: trade the Trend for a Class C, tow your Jeep, hook the E-bikes on the back of the jeep, and now you have everything for this amazing journey!! You asked the question😅I'm just sharing what I would do😊I simply couldn't invest that much money and time into an epic trip that I couldn't get out and explore everything I wanted to...but that's me😅 you are gonna have a great time with your friends!! Many memories are about to be created!!

Hey Gigi!! You do make a lot of good points. Thankfully our friends have a truck we'll be able to travel around in. As far as Moab goes we will be driving the Trend back to MD and changing back into our HR with jeep and E-bikes this November. Always love hearing from you and Pierre. We value your opinions very much my friend. And yes, Gigi may be having to fly home to love on our beautiful grands! Take care and enjoy your summer.😊

For people that serve in the military this is something they have to deal with all of the time. Sometimes they are gone for more than a year without any family including their spouse. Go and have fun. If you get home sick you don’t have anybody telling you that you can’t go back for a visit. Don’t worry about how others feel. Do what you want to do.

We are going to AK this year too and in a similar set up. Winnebago EKKO without a toad. It will present some challenges but we hope it will help us be more flexible with our travels and camping choices. I feel like we might be setting ourselves up for some big challenges as we have nothing reserved and truly winging it. Yet in our 8 years of full timing we’ve always made due when stumbling blocks trip us up. Like you say, “Roll with the punches.” We don’t have kids so we are used to keeping in contact with our small circle of family via phone calls, FaceTime, etc and chalk it up as good enough… We miss them but they get it that we are nomads at heart. You guys know tomorrow is never promised. Do the trip!

My wife and I have come to the conclusion, that we have probably 20-25 good years left to enjoy our time. We love spending time with our children and grandchildren, they live about 5 miles away. However, we don't plan to change any of our trips. When you actually realize time is short, take the time to do the things you want to enjoy. I'm sure that you worked hard to get to where you are in life. Enjoy it while you can with no regrets. Your children will understand, and I would guess they are happy for you to be able to do this. You have the means to comeback and spend time with your family and the new grandchild, so have a thrill of a lifetime on your adventure.

Even though we are not full timers, we have been to Alaska twice (once starting in the late spring with a travel trailer in '03 and then a few years later in the late summer towing a 5th wheel in '09). We'd love to go again in a Class C, but our advancing years are making it unwise. So go for it! You might consider shortening the time you are away by skipping the California, Oregon and Washington stops and not zigzag so much. Focus on Canada and Alaska so you can take it slow and not spread yourselves so thin. Just our perspective. Have a great time!

Everyone has an opinion, but no one has a crystal ball. Only you two can weigh your options. I will share that we did a 7 month journey in our 32' class C, and those months flew by. You have to ask yourselves why you chose the RV life and only you can answer that. Safe travels and God's blessings.

I totall understand your thinking. However, I've learned, the hard way, that do what you can when you can. There is no guarantee what tomorrow brings. There will always be reasons to say "no" or letst just wait a year. Before you know it, its too late. I wish I had done more before now. At 60, and hitting the road at 62, we are concerned about our health as well as missing our small family. Will you miss things? Of course. Will there be more things to come that you will be there for in the future? Of course. As long as your health is good. Especially with technology today, you can see and talk to them all of the time. My vote, you're not making a mistake. DO IT! The Class C is probably better than the A, but personally, I would take my Class A. But, that's just me. lol

You’re not making a mistake at all. Last year we took a 45 day trip from Texas to Maine and back. We were at the Cape Cod Canal and my wife said she was ready to go home. We went home as fast as we could to get back to our grandkids. We don’t want to waste the memories we make with them so we just take short trips now.

We live in our motorhome. A year ago we bought 10 acres in Arizona, moved Away from our 5 sons and wifes with grandkids. Live your life, we aren't getting younger. The kids travel to us, and we bought a small camper to go see them. Do miss grand kids, but they didn't forget about the old folks. Hard to leave, but the adventure can be shared with them when you return. Another thought, the baby will be older when you return, and they are alot more fun at a year old. Take care, go enjoy your lives. Thanks for sharing.

It's not a mistake...Every trip, short or long, has risk and reward and a lot of what if's. We've extended some and cut others short. Leaving open the option to fly home for a visit is excellent. There are always reasons to wait but the the time train is chugging forward and unforseen occurances will always cause us to question our choices. Enjoy the trip with no regrets.

It’s great you are there with them before you leave. I think you’ll have fun I’m rooting for you no matter what you do! I love you just the same. I didn’t know you had a class C. I would love to see it inside and out. It’s good you that for Alaska because you’ll be able to get in tight spots for sure. Nice you are with family on property. I like that you can be together there. It makes it fun that way. Enjoy your time with family this Easter week. One day maybe…until then I love watching other people go and I can’t wait for your trip! We have a 2021 Winnebago View, very similar to the one you bought. We tow my 2 door Jeep on long trips. But we have taken short trips with no towing and it is so nice. Definitely different. Is Tucker going?? Good luck in all the planning and prepping, glad your going with friends!💜

You guys are building a valuable documentary on KZfaq to share with your grandkids and their kids and more. They will be able to share the family experience for years to come. Get out there while you can. Do things to engage them in your journey. Give them a map and itinerary so they can follow along. Send post cards to them often, like every travel day. Gather gifts to share with them on your return. Facetime with them regularly. You can still be close even while you travel.

To the question of the Class C. For Dawn and I it is a huge mistake if it was us. 1. Our Class A basically same as yours drives better and more comfortably. 2. We have our car bikes and comforts of home .. since it’s our home. 3. I believe and have seen and traveled enough in big trucks and Alaska via bicycle to tell you that your A will make it just fine as will ours. 4. Kids and grandkids are an issue for us as well. We are at our home base campground two months a year and working on three or 4 a year. 5. Make drive days 500 miles per day when possible. Get through the US - don’t worry about seeing anything. Plan on staying in Alaska a month or two, then turn and burn. 6. Plan the next trip to Alaska to see more. 7. This is what I feel is OUR Dawn and my way to get it done while getting back for doctors, kids, and grandkids. 8. Do it your way!!! Have fun and don’t worry.

We don't think that any decision is a mistake..... Obviously, you have to do what's best for your family situation. If you choose to do the Alaska trip, it will be epic and a memory that will last a lifetime! If you choose to put it off, that's will be fine too..... One thing we have learned about this FT RV Life the past 10 months, is the places you want to visit will always be there for whenever you can make it! We are lucky that "Home" is in AZ where alot of people like to Winter in their RVs, so when we spend the Holiday Season there, we're "Home" with our family! So, we don't have to worry about traveling back and forth during that busy time of year. Technology will also allow you to stay in touch which is a huge bonus!!! Kevin & Lareka

So a few things to think about, and I'm not trying to tell you what to do, you have to decide what is best for you and your family. But to ask yourself, is Alaska your Every Day Get Away? It is My Every Day Get Away and has been for 55 years. Its where my rig lives. In the summer I can just go out and enjoy Alaska. In the winter I can go out and enjoy Alaska. But my retirement goal is to be able to RV in the lower 48 and see all 48 states and what they have to offer. My folks are aging and other issues. That makes it hard to be away from home. There is always something. But the flip on that is that at 55, thinks hurt more in the morning. Will I make it to retirement? And if so, will I be able to handle my rig and do all those things as I get older. We're all bullet proof until we're not. The things you put off, they become later in life things that you may or may not regret not getting around to because it was something that had to do with the grandkids. My grandparrents couldn't always be there, my folks couldn't always be there. But we still love them and we turned out OK. Were we disspointed when they couldn't be there's sure we were. But we had kid values. We got past that because there would always be something else to do with them. But they also knew it was OK to do things for themselves, and they did. Alaska probably won't be a life altering trip. You more than likely won't call home and tell everyone to sell your stuff, your'e moving to Alaska. But you may want to come back and give it a second go. Partially because you're going to find that there are a ton of other out of staters that brought their Class A's. You'll be just fine in the Class C but you may find that you are more comfortable in the Class A. I can't tell that for you. You'll have to find it out on your own. The slow down thing. You're going to learn about frost heaves and possibly muskeg. So yeah, drive for the conditions and not the speed limit. You don't have to be to work on Monday like me so surf the smoother wave by backing off the go button. Your rig will thank you. So hopefully you decide to come no matter which rig. Hopefully the weather is good for you. Hopefully you enjoy yourselves. Me, I have camping spots reserved over the summer. A trip to Skagway from Anchorage where I live and have been putting off but dammit this year I'm doing it. Another longer trip to Anchor Point with the ATV's and friends to do an epic ATV ride down the beach from Anchor Point to Homer and back racing the tide. So good luck to you and best wishes on your decisions...

Both Chris and myself have one parent left so we feel that's another reason to do it now before their health fails. Wows, what great advice. Thanks so very much for sharing. Congratulations on making your trip to Skagway come true. Riding an ATV Down the beach form Anchor Point to Homer and back sounds Amazing!! Thanks for the well wishes. Wishing you a trip of a lifetime! Safe travels!

I can't give an educated opinion on any of these issues. The only thing I can say is that personally, if I owned a class A I would probably go in the class A. Why, because many did it and were just fine. That's my 2 cents on the subject. No matter what you decide, I wish you the best. Thank you for sharing.

If you alter your plans this time but in the next two years another grandchild maybe born will you change your plans then? When will you ever go if you just rip off the bandaid and go. I am not a full timer and my kids are not having grand kids yet. Just wanted to put that disclaimer on it. It’s only a plane ride away ♥️

I should add, just from a visual perspective, Chris seems to be the one wringing his hands. Katrina does seem to maintain a calmer more relaxed posture. Non verbal language is real language!

Your very perceptive. He's a little nervous about making sure we have everything we need for such a long trip. I'm on the hand not so worried about it. If we forget something we can always purchase it on the road or do without.

Our plan was to sell it after our trip. Depending how much we enjoy it we may just keep it.
