Panic attack was pure brilliance in this series

2:37 was absolutely hilarious - love the Plunderboys and bloody love Phillippa. I like the 2016 reboot of Robot Wars, but they'll never get better than Miss Forrester.

Rex said on several occasions that he found the robot very difficult to control, and when you're watching on TV you have the advantage of being able to see everything from the best angle the cameras captured. You also don't get to watch and rewind and analyze and pinpoint every little detail and its exact timing when you're in the actual moment. you have to account for reaction times etc...

I said it then and i'll say it again now, Rex let Panic Attack win. Even when i was 10 years old i could see that Rex didn't even attempt to attack them properly. Examples??? O.K 8:41 - Cassius is under PA, just turn left slightly, fire the ram, all over. But no. 8:44 - That was the most half-arsed charge at a competitor robot i have ever seen. 8:54 - Time the weapon correctly, PA would have most likely rolled onto its top, all over. But no 3 times Cassius could have won with ease, But No.

Good point, it never occurred to me that Whirling Dervish was the first full-body spinner ever in UK Robot Wars. If only Caliban had used it's dome attachment, it would have got there first.

I remember watching this as a kid. Still annoyed Cassius didn't win.

I have never understood why Panic Attack was/is considered such huge underdogs. They've got a powerful and reliable robot with a decent driver, which is really the most important things to have. So many crappy robots lost because they constantly broke down under the slightest pressure... or sometimes no pressure whatsoever. Killertron is a perfect example, broke down after one hit. Honestly this final, hell this series, was between Roadblock, Cassius, and Panic Attack right from the very beginning. (Though I do think Rex threw the last fight).

When I was a kid I was really annoyed that Cassius lost, but watching it again now it really does look to me as if Rex lost this final on purpose. I like to think it was more due to his good sportsmanship and wanting more money to go to charity than it was due to the influence of the producers.

@LilyWhiteRiot the sportsmanship award is for the teams who help other roboteers and give them parts to help etc

Damn, Killatron was my favourite for the Play-offs. I love his simple design, it's simple, but really effective.

...And took the trophy by beating Cassius, who defeated the champion Road Block before. I realise that Cassius was a favourite in the eyes of almost everyone and a much more superior machine, but watching "David" beating "Goliath" is priceless. Adding the fact that it was the only robot in the finals which makers didn't compete in the first season and that the robot suprisingly went through the semi-final gauntlet, you can see it was an epic route. Panic Attack's triumph. Love it so much.

Yeah, I had tears in my eyes as well after seeing Cassius going into the pit and the Panic Attack team reaction to it. Even though I knew the winner from the very beginning (because I heard it in one of the 4th or 5th series episodes), I was highly thrilled when I was watching the finals. As someone wrote on one of the videos with Panic Attack, it was one of the biggest underdogs (or something like that) in the series, but eventually took the trophy...

Ironic how the first ever heat final between Roadblock and Killertron would be the first rematch in Robot Wars, the team from Bodmin won another medal which was Bronze! Straight in... Straight out. The awards part was lovely, while it was maybe an upset Cassius lost in the grand final and although Panic Attack isn't among my favorite robots but you cannot deny their victory was worth it seeing Kim Davies donated all the winnings to charity as he planned from the start. Pride of Wales! Series 2 is definitely one of the 3 best in RWars to me, what a rollercoaster. Scary to think it was all filmed 18 years ago in glorious 1998! Does anyone know how many days it took place?

@sodapop554 Maybe. There is one thing that I can agree upon with you. The producers did try to fix the competition on several occasions. They let Mortis go through the trial in the semi-final of series 2 because they were the favorite to win the championship, and they intentionally tried to rig alot of the fights in series 7 just so Storm II would lose because the producers thought their robot was too basic for the competition to get all the way to the final.

God I loved this show. Panic Attack did brilliantly to defeat Cassius like that.

"Rex threw" Yeah fucking right. Panic Attack's success is because of having some of the best drivers in the wars and lost spots for the Grand Finals in successive series' via really close judge decisions. Cassius' arm is iffy at times and only made worse by it being hard as hell to control due to its speed. If it failed to flip Roadblock when it did in the semis, it would have lost because it jammed in an upwards position. As Rex said, "there's room for improvement", and this was obviously what he meant.

I never realized this until now, but Roadblock is freaking huge Also, I'm pretty sure that Killertron and Mortis were probably the most destructive robots from the first 2 series

It's a bit surprising to see how little padding there is. If this show was broadcast today it would be at least an hour in length, but they manage to do it in 25 minutes by wasting no time whatsoever - and all the better for it IMO.

The last time you see him is in series 3 against Pussycat. DRIVING. That is all you need to say. Regardless Cassius is my favorite robot in all robot wars all inclusive. Rex should have merged with all of the Chaos team.

Never was a fan of Panic Attack when watching this as a kid, only 7-8 when this aired. Always thought Panic Attack as being just a Cheerios box with some prongs added and a spider painted on it. I was rooting for Mortis, Killertron, Cassius and Roadblock, and all were beaten by a Cheerios box! lol

@MicroGravity100 Most definitely Storm II. Cassius might be second, but only by process of elimination because Panic Attack were still excellent. Some would argue that Razer were cheated in series 6, but Tornado's frame was ingenious. The rest of the finals (Roadblock over the others, Chaos 2 over Hypnodisc/Pussycat, Razer over Bigger Brother) were all pretty definitive.

The people accusing Rex of deliberately losing and accusing Robot Wars of deliberately setting up wins for Panic Attack. You lot are just harsh bastards.

@thefateshavewarned yet the producers did not try to rig tornados fights in series six, and storm and tornado were kind of the same thing.

I didn't watch this live, and when I asked who won, knowing that Cassius would win because Cassius was amazing, there was absolutely no way that Cassius would lose, least of all to panic attack, I thought I was being wound up when I was told that panic attack had won, I might have believe one of the other two but panic attack? The biggest upset in television history.

Because they won? I think it was a great robot, not quite as good in later wars but still pretty good to win against Cassius. They saw an opportunity and took it - what were they supposed to do, give Cassius a bit of time to line up for an attack?

I can definitely see an argument for Rex throwing the fight. He had a great opportunity near the start to flip Panic Attack but didn't capitalize. However, I don't think he actually threw it.

However this time he just didnt realise it was going to be that quick. Now we all praise Rex for a good design, which it is no argument here, but panic attack had speed.

Kim Davies is a great driver. Panic Attack isn't very fancy in it's design, not even during the later series, nothing special but there's was an excellent driver behind it.

@Jin4815162342 Maybe they made it through the semi finals with a lot of luck, but they proved themselves worthy winners here. The only grand final I thought was balderdash was the last one. Storm II clearly had the upperhand through most of the fight, but Typhoon 2 got a lucky hit that knocked something off of Storm. In my opinion, the judges should award the most points towards aggression, not damage.

Which runner up from all 7 series do you think deserved to win the most? Mine is Storm II, followed closely by Cassius because Storm II was cheated out of the title.

Great attack. Can't believe anyone would seriously think it was fixed- Davis was an excellent driver, while Rex Garrod (for all his other talents) really wasn't.

As someone who's actually driven one of these things (albeit didn't qualify) you're talking drivel. these things are incredibly difficult to control and on occasion just don't do what they're told cos of radio problems "just turn slightly left and fire the ram" is not at all simple. The roboteers are high up and can't always see the best angle to fire a flipper. Also "just turn left slightly" is nigh on impossible, esp with a robot that fast. the line between slight turn and spin is a fine one
